"The Faraway Part of Town," composed and performed by Andre Previn is the title song of the 1962 Columbia LP of the same name. The song had been featured in film Pepe and nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song in 1960. The album is only available on vinyl.

The Garland recording was unfortunate.. and I love her as much as anyone else.. she and the song just didn't fit... maybe at a different time in her career... but the Dory Previn lyrics don't fit very well, either...the song narrates the dance number and taken out of that context it doesn't stand up very well.. I have this Previn album and it is superb.
