Hi from Russia! Alaska looks very much like my home town. I travel a lot (when I am not busy interfering US election). And I think people are very much similar when they don't watch news on TV and their polititians.
Being Australian I don't get Fahrenheit very well. So the sign says -25f and you're just stripping down like it's nothing and I'm thinking, it doesn't look that bad. Then it clicked over to -32 Celcius and I thought... oh... she's actually super human. 0_O
VicMorrowsGhost You australians don't really get much of anything, you have the arguably most sought-after weather in the world. In the states, you can expect to have around 4 to 7 Celcius on a spring morning only for it to go up to around the better part of 25 Celcius only to strike down to 1 celcius with sleet, hail and flurries. Please, take into account that that all of these events happened in a short 24-hour period.
It's like watching drug deals happen right in your driveway...and hearing gunshots at 2 am on a regular basis. Just yesterday, there was a drug deal on my parking lot (my boyfriends property since he owns the 4plex we live in) and we called the cops to find out the car that was parked there was also a stolen vehicle. Don't move to Alaska. We're trying to get out. Lol.
I was born and raised up there in the Fairbanks area myself. First 21 years of my life, I miss it, although, not too sure about the cold. Although, I think I prefer it over the summer heat in the lower 48s. Lol
Love the cold and snow 🥶 Just a few questions: 1) How do you drive everywhere on the roads safely? 2) What’s it like to go anywhere like outside or shopping or to the gym. Dress in layers then shed layers etc ? 3) How are jobs and the economy in Fairbanks? 4) Do cars frequently stall or run out of battery? 5) How about heat for your home, or shower or cooking. Does it get expensive? Thanks 😊
This came out so well!! Wow, it's so interesting seeing all of the very specific stores and local landmarks. Wasn't expecting to ever see a Blockbuster again, lol. That snow is INTENSE!
I love this video. I was looking for a video the show everything around Fairbanks and this was the video. Nice presentation. I'm going to Fairbanks this January 26 and I can't wait to be there. Looking forward to have a great time there. Alaska here we go. Solo woman travelers ❤️🌍🌎🌏✈️🛬🛩️
Once been in the mountainous terrain of France for climbing and wondered why people were so friendly in the area greeting every time and ask they could help out even if not asked for (coming from big town in Germany this is still something really uncommon for me). Our guide explained that this is common in nature where human population is sporadic, so you would depend more on eachother for help if needed. I totally get why people are this way up there in Alaska and Canada.
Plus, they don't get in each other's way so much like they do in a big city, so they don't get angry at each other as much and are nicer to each other as a result!
One of these days I'm going back to Fairbanks in the dead of Winter to see the Northern Lights at the Arctic Circle. I've already been twice in 2017 and 19, but in the 'hot' summer when in June the temperature got up to a hot 86 degrees. Anchorage set an all-time high temp of 90 degrees a few days after I went home.
Awesome vid! Moving up there next year and I cant wait! Is Alaska the kind of place I can leave my Christmas lights up all year without getting angry looks from everyone?
Born in Fairbanks, raised in Tok, been in Anchorage for the past few years, going to University in Juneau. Alaska is the best kind of home-- I don't have the heart to ever leave! :)
Alaska has a wide range of temperatures. Interior Alaska is very cold, southern Alaska is warmer than the midwest in winter. Anchorage is about as cold as Madison WI in winter. Places like Eastern Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota get just as cold as interior Alaska. Fairbanks AK and Roger's Pass Montana is tied with a record low of -80F
I want to live there so bad!!!!! Of course where I'm from, winters aren't nearly as cold. Snows are becoming a mere foreign concept because they happen so little. Folks where I live typically like when it doesn't snow. I couldn't be more opposite of that. I'm built for the cold.
Or Tennessee, which in the summer is like being inside a steam train's boiler! (Been there in August for the eclipse, was parched for 2 weeks afterward, never going back there in the summer again!)
0:36-0:40 I'm from southern california my hometown is a few hours west of palm springs and I remember times in elementary school having to play at recess outside in 104 degrees
I love these videos! Alaska seems pretty similar to the very north of Sweden, where I live. Even though we get even less daylight, being above the arctic circle and all. I both love and hate the winters so much :P
Southern coastal Alaska is like Sweden. The upper midwest is actually just as cold as interior Alaska. The record low is actually not in Alaska but Roger's Pass Montana at -80. North doesn't mean colder.
Jonathan Mosher North does mean colder, the coldest temperature ever recorded in the US is in Alaska, and also the average temperatures are colder in Alaska in both summer and winter
Do you personally feel like your mood is really affected by the lack of daylight in the winter or does one just kind of get used to it after a while? I'd like to maybe one day live in Alaska but I'm concerned how I'd feel about lack of sun.
I live in Canada and winter is my absolute favorite. Where I live, the temperature averages around -25°C to -35°C. We get temperatures around -40°C and the lowest I've experienced was just below -45°C. It gets really cold and it's what I love about it. Also, Christmas actually feels like Christmas. Don't even get me started on everything else in this video. 😂 perfectionnn. Can't wait for winter.
OFF GRID LIFE I believe it! My husband was here during the last of winter and he did get stuck once or twice. I will be sure to call you when I get stuck the first time!
Winter is actually worse in North Dakota then Fairbanks. The temperatures are about the same but North Dakota you have -100 degree windchills because of the constant wind. Roger's Pass Montana has a record low of -80. People mistake North being colder but in winter jet stream and being intercontinental are the other 2 major factors
We were in Fairbanks for almost 15 years and yes, the winters are hard core. Then there is the smoke from the forest fires and mosquitoes, those buggers are awful! We have friends who live in Healy. It's beautiful. You need to be a outdoorsy winter type of person to live there. I'm happy you like it there. xoxo Joan
I would be even later for everything than I already am if I had to de-ice my car every morning! the snow and the colours of that sunset look beautiful though :) very much enjoyed this xx
HI! I'm from Estonia (which is in Northern Europe) and I can relate SO SO MUCH! Especially the daylight - you go to school when it's pitch black and then come back from school at 4pm in pitch black as well, in the winter. :D
When did you record this? Must have been a holiday visit for you huh. We have had a pretty mild winter in Fairbanks...Relatively speaking. The same cannot be said for the areas north of the banks. It was cold up there. I'm in barrow now waiting for spring. Head back to the banks this weekend for some beer drinking in the sun. Thanks for the video. Nice to see home for a sec.
LOVE THIS SOOOO MUCH!!! Oh My, makes me miss Alaska, and I LOVE the unique little things, and the UAF thermometer, and seeing Vickie - I'm SOOOO impressed!!
You're lucky, I'm getting sick of Florida. I used to live in Pennsylvania, and as such I miss the north, and I've always wanted to live in Alaska so I'm hoping and praying that an opportunity will come to me to move to the Anchorage or Fairbanks area. I'm just not meant to live in Florida forever, and while I do believe I was meant to live here now, something just keeps telling me that I'll get a chance to go to Alaska
Enjoyed watching. "People r so nice here." Alaska must be a completely different planet. It's crazy and sad that we would have to travel so far to experience an ounce of generosity. At least earth has some good people left.
so glad you are back. i love your videos! im working on a novel, i want it to be a pageturner. can you make a video on dramatic question and plot building?
For all my non American friends this is how Fahrenheit works, 0 and below is very very very cold 🥶 , 10-30 is cold and is the temperature for when you can start getting snow, 40-60 is cool (not to hot not to cold) 70 is warm, 80-90 is hot and 100 and over is very very very very hot 🥵 🔥
I live in Florida That is weird having a Sunrise at 3:10 AM and having sunset at 1:03 AM During the summer time Here in Florida is a Warmer climate I used to live in Lansing MI When I was a baby It was bitter cold in MI people wear Long pants 👖 in the summer in Alaska
I live in Alaska and got the auto start installed on my car. It is nice to have the car heated up before you get in. Totally worth it.
I'm not over the Blockbuster tbh
Hi from Russia! Alaska looks very much like my home town. I travel a lot (when I am not busy interfering US election). And I think people are very much similar when they don't watch news on TV and their polititians.
You Russian bots 🤖😂😂😂
hahaha
😂
😄😄 We are neighbors so I guess our weather would look very similar.
Being Australian I don't get Fahrenheit very well.
So the sign says -25f and you're just stripping down like it's nothing and I'm thinking, it doesn't look that bad.
Then it clicked over to -32 Celcius and I thought... oh... she's actually super human. 0_O
When it comes to losing body heat, airflow matters more than temperature. And duration of exposure, yeah...
It's hard to figure out hot temperature in Celcius for us.
-40 Celsius and Fahrenheit are the same.
oh you guys have celsius too! We have to convert Americans! :)
Adding Alaska to my list of places to relocate to! Here is to never sweating again!
I live in Alaska, and I still sweat through the winter so good luck😉😂
No sweat dreams crushed!! Good to know though!, My guess is I will sweat less than what I do in the tropical weather I live in.
+schizox I live in phoenix and am considering a move to Alaska and have been for a couple years.
I actually also considered moving to Flagstaff, AZ I've been told the weather there is quite nice.
Lol.
THOSE BIKE TIRES.
I know, right?! XD
Was that you who recommended this channel?
Valley Village used to be Fred Meyers back in the day. And yes i'm old.
Tessa Violet. is it hard to find work there
Its called a fat bike
I actually cried watching this, I miss Alaska so horrifically bad.
I lived there close to 18 years and regret leaving...
I was born and raised up there in the Fairbanks area myself. First 21 years of my life, I miss it, although, not too sure about the cold. Although, I think I prefer it over the summer heat in the lower 48s. Lol
I don’t understand why, it seems miserable but hey everyone gets nostalgic
Come back and visit. We are having record snow fall this year and right now it's dropped to 8degrees above zero. Still miss us?
Adrian Trejo there is something about alaska
Born and raised. It's absolutely beautiful. So much to do.
As someone who prefers the cold, the dark and the quiet Alaska sounds pretty nice from what I’ve heard
Dude RIGHT!
Love the cold and snow 🥶
Just a few questions:
1) How do you drive everywhere on the roads safely?
2) What’s it like to go anywhere like outside or shopping or to the gym. Dress in layers then shed layers etc ?
3) How are jobs and the economy in Fairbanks?
4) Do cars frequently stall or run out of battery?
5) How about heat for your home, or shower or cooking. Does it get expensive?
Thanks 😊
2:52 those colors! Looks gorgeous.
This came out so well!! Wow, it's so interesting seeing all of the very specific stores and local landmarks. Wasn't expecting to ever see a Blockbuster again, lol. That snow is INTENSE!
Thanks, Ahsante!! And agreed. I cannot get over how much I love that Blockbuster hahaha
Ahsante the Artist ,I want to visit this palace
They have all closed 2018.
This is a surprisingly good tourism video, really want to go see Alaska now :)
Me too :D
Go fastest...
Before European scientists set fire to glaciers and blame our President... Bolsonaro...😂😂😂🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
We love visitors, people are so nice. Come visit
Alaska One Thank you for let me know.
Plus, they don't get in each other's way so much like they do in a big city, so they don't get angry at each other as much and are nicer to each other as a result!
How people heat their homes usually? Is there free wood to burn!? Is electricity cheap or expensive!?
I'm from new York city and one day I will go to Alaska I would to visit Alaska and also Hawaii
Living abroad, this is a slice of nostalgia. You captured living in fairbanks perfectly, its heartwarming. Thank you.
You have to paint your house a bright color so you can find it in the snow
Alaska has a wide range of temperatures. Interior Alaska is very cold, southern Alaska is warmer than the midwest in winter. Anchorage is about as cold as Madison WI in winter. Places like Eastern Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota get just as cold as interior Alaska. Fairbanks AK and Roger's Pass Montana is tied with a record low of -80F
I went on a cruise tour to Alaska back in 2014. It was wonderful to view nature.
I want to live there so bad!!!!! Of course where I'm from, winters aren't nearly as cold. Snows are becoming a mere foreign concept because they happen so little. Folks where I live typically like when it doesn't snow. I couldn't be more opposite of that. I'm built for the cold.
I lived in Alaska on Ft. Wainwright for 3 years and I miss it so much. Seriously considering going back after I move out.
Fun Fact: There are only 10 operational Blockbuster stores left... 6 in Alaska, 3 in Oregon, and 1 in Texas.
I have missed your videos!
I have lived through new england winters and this is next level. Studying at University would suck. I would just sleep all the time.
I love winter season there is no light or reflection it make me happy.very cold it would be amazing.
Thank you for this and your other summer video! My Korean students were hardcore stereotyping Alaska, and this really opened their eyes!
Better than dealing with high humidity an 100 degree days. Welcome to indiana, the armpit of America!
Or Tennessee, which in the summer is like being inside a steam train's boiler! (Been there in August for the eclipse, was parched for 2 weeks afterward, never going back there in the summer again!)
How anyone can live down there is beyond me!
I love Indiana, we have all four seasons. Maybe not when they’re supposed to be, but we still do!
I would choose Indiana over Tennessee (let alone Louisiana) any day, but I'd much rather live in Maine or Minnesota!
I live in Florida, tell me about the heat and humidity 😂
0:36-0:40 I'm from southern california my hometown is a few hours west of palm springs and I remember times in elementary school having to play at recess outside in 104 degrees
I'm going to be moving to Fairbanks for college in two years... so excited!!!
For the record I live in Michigan now.
Kara Adams and I live in Georgia
That book store. So colorful!
Nice to see you back, LB!
Important question: do they still have a Block Buster's?
I love these videos! Alaska seems pretty similar to the very north of Sweden, where I live. Even though we get even less daylight, being above the arctic circle and all. I both love and hate the winters so much :P
Vilma Alderheim Like the first few days your like awesome there's snow! Then it gets boring.. very very boring..
Point Barrow, Alaska is actually even farther north than the very north of Sweden!
agentorange153 Yes it is, and was almost at the North pole in the past, but it is moving southwest
If yall have a blockbuster does that mean alaskans still use vhs or does the blockbuster have dvds..all i could think after she showed it lol
Do you personally feel like your mood is really affected by the lack of daylight in the winter or does one just kind of get used to it after a while? I'd like to maybe one day live in Alaska but I'm concerned how I'd feel about lack of sun.

Don't even get me started on everything else in this video. 😂 perfectionnn. Can't wait for winter.
how do you paint with out the brush freezing
Literally moving to Fairbanks from central California in a month. Loving this video, I can’t wait for my first winter.
OFF GRID LIFE I believe it! My husband was here during the last of winter and he did get stuck once or twice. I will be sure to call you when I get stuck the first time!

Very useful tips for living not just in Alaska, but up north in general! Thank you so much!
All you need is coffee & a subaru!!!
Alaska one of my favorite places I lived
bahaha wow a blockbuster still exists! ooh bookstore! ;D this was so great; thanks for sharing your hometown with us Linda!
We lived in Fairbanks for 14 years. Thankfully we are in Las Vegas now.
Not for us, the winters are too brutal. Dang we're old retired people.
We were in Fairbanks for almost 15 years and yes, the winters are hard core. Then there is the smoke from the forest fires and mosquitoes, those buggers are awful! We have friends who live in Healy. It's beautiful. You need to be a outdoorsy winter type of person to live there. I'm happy you like it there. xoxo Joan
Same weather here in Canada looks nice there great for hunting/hiking etc
LINDA IS BACK! Welcome Back!
LOVE LOVE these videos!! We are so excited about going to Alaska after Guam!!!
We are moving to Elmendorf !! Husband in the air force.
I would be even later for everything than I already am if I had to de-ice my car every morning! the snow and the colours of that sunset look beautiful though :) very much enjoyed this xx
also how come blockbusters hasn't gone bust in alaska???
lol....Cabin Fever, Blockbuster is a prime destination.
HI! I'm from Estonia (which is in Northern Europe) and I can relate SO SO MUCH! Especially the daylight - you go to school when it's pitch black and then come back from school at 4pm in pitch black as well, in the winter. :D
Vivian M It’s more prominent in alaska than estonia since estonia is closer to the equator
ok but i cant get over the alaskan sunsets 😍😍
I can't believe you took OFF clothes in -25 😳 Missed your videos, so happy to see one today!!
Rowan Walker I didn't mind at all :)
Haha rowan😂
I would too
Love this. I have always wanted to live in Alaska! The HUGE state has always fascinated me! There is so much beauty here.
Okay. The Blockbuster part got me! Hahaha!
What's the bar/pub scene like in Fairbanks? ......from Galway city, Western Ireland
That was cool. An accurate description of living with DAILY below zero high temperatures for four months and hardly any sunshine to boot.
Thank God you're back! Awesome video as always...... =)
i'm from finland, and this video is incredibly relatable (and sweet, i love your videos)
This place looks like a dream
Thank you for sharing cant believe you're living in Alaska.
This was so awesome haha.
I'm moving to Fairbanks in January 2019 and I'm originally from Oklahoma where it only snow stays for one day
Stephanie Foster so, you move there yet?
Did you install the starter? I did my own the first time and it was rewarding. My second one, I hired someone to do it.
Gulliver's Books..very interesting. Is the store still there?
When did you record this? Must have been a holiday visit for you huh. We have had a pretty mild winter in Fairbanks...Relatively speaking. The same cannot be said for the areas north of the banks. It was cold up there. I'm in barrow now waiting for spring. Head back to the banks this weekend for some beer drinking in the sun.
Thanks for the video. Nice to see home for a sec.
My friend lives in Fairbanks, i may visit him this year in December.....i am a little nervous lol
Nice video. Will some day definetely go to Alaska.
that wa so cool! i went to fairbanks 2 weeks ago it was beautiful! the northern lights
Looks like the winters we used to get here in Minnesota but not anymore. Can I come to Alaska?? :-(
My fiance and I both went to UAF, in fact that's where we met. I thoroughly enjoyed this video :)
Great video. Keep it going I want to watch more.
Luv you! And your videos :). Can't wait to visit and fly in Alaska one day!
Amazing watch!! I created my own, but this one is simply awesome!!
Nice video! Thanks for uploading 😊
I love this video! I would totally go there one day. If u live in Alaska, what are some must-visit spots?
My tropical ass would fake sickness and decide to not go to work when it's 15 C outside. 😂😂😂
As live in Hot area (India), this is place is dreamland. But the cold i could never survive
LOVE THIS SOOOO MUCH!!! Oh My, makes me miss Alaska, and I LOVE the unique little things, and the UAF thermometer, and seeing Vickie - I'm SOOOO impressed!!
can’t wait to get a cabin there and be a bush pilot
Great video and thanks for posting.
Do you have to hook up your car battery so it won't freeze?
@Scooter Scooter
Thank you. I was thinking it was some type of outlet.
Happy New Year to you.
Omg scraping snow off your car every day. We had a bad winter here and I had terrible cold flashbacks. XD
That's a pain in the ass, but sure beats spending 3 months or more on the verge of heat prostration like I do in California!
Wow ... it's awesome ...i would like to visit ...
Always enjoy your videos :) Would you say you'd have to have a car/b able to drive to live there?
Oh Flan I'd say it would make life much easier but there is a bus system that people use
I would be the person who bikes everywhere regardless of the weather. Greetings from Minneapolis!
This is very helpful bc i am moving there in summer 2019 so yay from fort bliss to Alaska yay... but for real though I love snow and I’m so exited
Road tripping around Alaska as I type this. Currently in Valdez. Love the video and love this state.
Wow looks so homey , there's a blockbuster and everything
Kathy .D- not anymore, the one in Fairbanks and the one in North Pole both closed 😢
Please do more videos! These are so much fun to watch :D
1 of my best dream is to have an vication experience in Alaska
Actually I visit Alasfa in the winter because it’s lots of fun.
Great work and very interesting!!!
Thank you and I hope for more.
Ha ha ha it's like living in Canada. The struggle is real 😂😂
the rest of America has struggles too. We got 10 ft. of snow btw I live in the east coast:).
And in America, well some places
In north Dakota it's pretty similar to this video usually 8 months of winter and -68 with windchill last winter
Flagstaff Arizona can get very very cold and a crap load of snow
Ha! I had a lot of fun watching this video. Thinking of making the move
Fancy video. now winter is coming again
Great video. I love your personality.
