I bought this stool last December and have used it all spring and summer. It's the most comfortable backpacking chair I've used. What impressed me the most is how sturdy it is. Much more stable than the Chair Zero. Also the seat is wider so I don't get the pinching effect. I went backpacking on the AT last January with this chair and used a tree as a backrest. Super comfortable. I was lucky and found it on sale for $59.00. Well worth the cost. At close to 60 years old I really appreciate a comfortable chair.
I have this stool and absolutely love it. Have had it for over a year now. I bought it on sale at REI for about $20 cheaper than what you have indicated. They only problem I have had is how to patch a hole created by a pop of hot embers from a fire pit. Melted a hole in the seat before I could knock the ember away. Need to get a patch. I still use it though-it has not torn. Also, excellent for day hikes. I’ve not done any multi-day with it but will do so in the future. It is very comfortable and what a nice relief at the end of the day to have a comfy chair! As you mentioned, there are several ways to prevent the feet from sinking into softer ground. And this is something you would have to figure out for many chairs like these on the market. Not a flaw in my book.
I have had one for a while and love everything about it. I use it for plein air watercolor painting and drawing. You’re close to the ground so you can set some of your equipment on the ground and reach it easily. You can balance the sketchbook with your paints (clipped on) on your lap. Alternatively, you can use with your sketchbook attached to a short tripod.
I've just bought some "Robens Soft Ground Feet" for £4 and they work a treat for stopping the stool sinking into soft ground. Loving the stool as well.
At 60, I really look forward to leaning back when relaxing. Big Agnes is a solid brand but I'd rather carry the extra weight for the extra comfort but that's just me. Great video, btw.
I'm not 60 yet, but I'm older to the point that bringing a chair & stool are worth it to me. I bring both because they serve different purposes. The chair with the back is for relaxing, leaning back, really getting into it. The stool is for when there are camp chores to be done, and I want to sit but I need to be more active than plopping way down low into a Chair Zero. Getting back up from those lowriders is a pain, which is where the stool comes into play. When I need to get up and sit down repeatedly before max relax mode, I'm using a stool. Unfortunately, this stool seems relatively low to the ground.
I’d love to see your comparison between this and the Helinox ground chair as both are similar priced and weight. I use the ground chair as it fits inside my tent for those wet evenings here in the UK.
I have the BA Skyline Chair, which is the same design as this stool with a back added. It is very comfortable. I upgraded to it from a Helinox Chair Zero and am very happy to carry the extra few ounces to have better comfort. This chair sits about twice as high as the Helinox, making it much easier to get into and out of.
My husband will not part with his Helinox zero, but always comments on how much better my BA UL chair is 😂. I truly do not notice a difference in carry weight between the two.
I also have the UL chair and I'm totally happy with it. I debated for quite some time between the lighter, but lass comfortable and seemingly flimsier Chair Zero... and the heavier, sturdier Skyline UL chair. I was able to buy mine with 20% off, so it hurt a little less.
@@SmithFarmTilton - Very cool! I'm glad you're also happy with it. The Helinox chair tends to lean forward, which is my big gripe. When I am in camp after a long hike, I want to relax, not constantly have to balance myself in a "chair".
I have one and it was a bit pricey but worth it for a comfortable seat at a height I can get in and out of. My only gripe is the narrow-mouthed little storage bag that is an absolute fight to get the thing back into when youre moving on. Paul Messner in the UK suggests the use of practice golf balls, holed and stuck on the feet to stop them sinking in.
I’ve had mine since they came out and I LOVE it. Packs neatly away and easy enough to put together and break down. Actually purchased for around $70 on sale.
I have purchased two chairs that use this pole and sleeve design including one Tigres. If you use these several times a week the poles will punch through the fabric eventually. I only weight 160. I have made repairs that lasted about as long as the factory fabric lasted. Unless they beef up the fabric around the poles its good for use a few times a year. Use it every day it will last about 3-4 months.
Worth the price for having the comfort after a day of backpacking. I have been carrying a chair for about a year now and the weight is a bit much but it is a nice comfort item. I would pay the price for this chair to shave weight and still have the comfort. Thanks for review Luke always trust your honesty and gut feelings when it comes to outdoor products.
I've been using this stool for about two years now. I love it! I originally bought it because I wanted a chair that was higher off the ground than the traditional backpacking chairs. After my first trip with it I fell in love. I take it on all of my multi-day trips now and it has been extremely durable and comfortable. I'm a bigger guy, I fluctuate between 245-255lbs, and this stool has always felt sturdy underneath me. Never once have I felt like it was going to give out or tip. I keep it in my car when I'm not hiking and it has come in handy for all sorts of purposes. My kids love to use it instead of the bag chairs when we go to their tournaments and other sporting events. It is pricey, but it's worth it in my opinion. If you can find one on sale it's a no brainer.
I just picked one up from ebay...It arrived today...second hand but in excellent condition and at a great price...can't wait to take it out on my next trip...Thanks for the excellent review.
I do like it a lot. But my helinox ground chair is only 2.5 ounces heavier, and has a back. Having said that I may still have to get this one to try out!
Chair sinking? Somewhere on UA-cam someone showed that this can be fixed by placing a log underneath the "A" part of the chair (of correct length and diameter). A rock or two might work as well. Thanks for another honest review.
Got this chair and I haven't used I for camping or backpacking yet but actually used it at work to test out. A bucket is nice but having this is even better. Coworkers approved it and now they want to get one.
Nice review, thanks! Have you tried the Helinox Chair Zero? It's a little more expensive, but a full chair and lighter weight at 1.2 lbs. Only advantages I see to the BA stool are price and seat height which might be significant depending on the situation. I love my Chair Zero and it's worth every penny.
I have the helinox chair zero and I'm pretty happy with that. Just weights 510g, instead of 580g this stool weights, and it has a backrest. Sadly costs quite a bit more though.
I was wondering about this. Chair zero weighs less, and has more support. If you're already willing to pay this much, why not save yourself an upgrade later and just buy the chair zero?
@@mattpaul8173Because getting up and down out of the Chair Zero is a pain because it rides so low. Its comfy to relax in when all the camp chores are done, but you cant sit in it and do things the way you can with a stool. I carry the chair and a stool for this reason.
Not sure you will ever find it that cheap, but I was able to purchase my Skyline UL chair @ 20% off..... which at least stings a little less. I have been 100% happy with the purchase.
Great stool, I use to bring to sports fields and it compact to fit in my bag. Also, if you use it in windy conditions, it doesn’t blow over like an ultralight chair with a back.
I have two chairs, no stools. I bought the Sportneer AFTER you reviewed it which I've only used once. I also have the Thermarest Trekker Chair which I've used most every time I've used my Thermarest XTherm air mattress.
BA product looks nice, not sure I'd trade for helinox chair 0, sitting around that 1 pound mark with a back. I also have a stool from an amazon brand, Rockcloud, which is less than a pound and the seat upholstery serves as the folding bag, very small form factor. Its a very nice design and was like $19 us bucks. Love that stool, I've bought 2 to date. Might be worth having a look. Great vid, love the channel!
I really have enjoyed this stool myself. I am rather large, 6’1”and 240 lbs. I have had zero issues. This stool performed flawlessly over a 10 day leadership backpacking course through the Grand Tetons in July. When I purchased this stool, it was on sale January 2022, I believe it was $63 at REI. (I bought the lime yellow/green version) Great video Luke, I couldn’t agree more!
I've just received it (70 euros shipped, France). It weighs a few grams more than the Helinox Zero and it feels different already. It can finally sit upright and do stuff like using binos or cooking. Whereas the Helinox Zero felt springy, wobbly and you had to recline, move those legs forward and find that point where it finally becomes stable and not move from there on. With this B.A. skyline stool I don't have to find that point of equilibrium and sitting upright (with the intention of doing stuff) feels more natural. Also I don't feel any compression from the sides either, perfect for my large body. I'll have compare them when I'm knackered after a long walk, maybe the reclining posture of the helinox zero is more relaxing than having to sit upright. So for almost half the price (a helinox zero can cost 110-130 euros in France) it's a great deal.
I'm 70 and have a Big Agnes chair and a One Tigris chair. The Big Agnes was three times the price as the One Tigris. We use them for camping. The Big Agnes is lighter and more comfortable. If budget is a concern, Big Agnes products are probably not for you. If you want great quality and don't mind paying a premium, then I recommend Big Agnes products.
Give me a less rigid version of this to drop the weight to… 12oz… and I might consider, but I’ve no reason when this is slightly heavier than a Chair Zero or Flexlite Air. The pack size is great, even easier to bring, but not to carry generally less comfort. Is comfortable, is well built, the split cross pole to stabilize on uneven ground is ground, and every element was thought out, but this is one where there are simply better options for much the same purpose for a luxury item on trail.
good day sir really enjoy watching your channel it's very educational and learned a lot more then most people teach on stuff I seen 8-10 Persons Camping Tents Waterproof UV Resistance Large Camping Tent Sun Shelters Outdoor it popped up on my phone after I was talking to my brother n law about tents and fishing and was wondering if you have had any experience with this type of tent it says it's $148
There used to be a time when the weight limit advertised on any item was under the actual tested weight limit. One reason was to protect the item user and the other reason was to help protect the company from a mass of liability issues. Today we can figure that the weight limit is not much more than the listed limit. Items are engineered to use the most minimum amounts of materials to meet a goal. Look at the early railroad bridges that have been standing for 100 plus years and still in excellent condition while much the much more modern engineered bridges have a lifespan of only 30 years without needing much care and preservation and maintenance. They were built that way to save a ton of upfront costs. I'll trust my butt to a more substantial four legger seat.
You mentioned other possible uses for this stool such as a table. Could you also use this stool as a wash basin for dishes, laundry, and or body parts?
lol You can use it as a survival rainwater catcher or a sling for a broken arm but its uses are endless really with a bit of imagination, my wife could wear it to the races as a hat! now that would really be multi-purpose :)
Luke would you like a higher back stool and Luke was there by snow on the ground would you make your own stool and hope to see you both on a adventure soon
I have allot of Big Agnes stuff and love it all. They are an expensive brand but I feel the money is well spent with the quality. There are some nice alternatives that are good as well. I buy REI’S brand allot also. Good stuff at a much more reasonable price.
I do own several Big Agnes products and love them. And you are correct, it is a US company. So are you saying this stool is manufactured in the US? That's more or less what you are implying. You also said it would not be difficult to come up with a way to prevent it from sinking into the ground. Really, I spend $100 and need to complete the engineering of this stool? I think the best thing they can do with this stool is use waterproof fabric and market it as an ultra light sink.
You could buy an REI Flexlite right now for less money, 6 more ounces, and the ability to sit back in it, which is really incredible after lugging around a 25lb backpack all day. This stool would need to be half the price and/or lighter to consider purchase.
Strength and honor brother. What is your preferred chair that you use most of the time after a long hike and value? I received a reply to go to a different app that I do not use. Sorry. I still sent a reply to it but not sure if you received it.
Still have old stats displaying: 3,853 views Oct 25, 2022 Today Luke is previewing a very large Tipi tent that's from the Japanese outdoor company known as DOD Outdoors. Great looking product, but just too expensive for what it is.
Great review as always! 100 USD is good for you, in Amazon Japan costs 21000 yen that is almost 200USD 😱and that is the same price that the Big Agnes chair with high back have. Even the Big Agnes chair with low back is 16000 yen. Not sure why this stool costs so much.🤔
I want to like this stool; I have a BA tent which I really love & they make great products. However, my current backpacking stool's seat is 18" off the ground whereas the BA one is only 15". I can see from even when you sit in it, your thighs are not parallel to the ground. Your knees are bent at
Things cost what they cost. The global economy has changed and prices have gone up. I've accepted the increases. Needs and wants are up to the person. There are plenty of camping items that I've placed a C-note on and I rarely use them. What I will say is that I've managed to integrate some of my backpacking items into work, be it for cooking lunch or finding a quiet place to sit during a break. This I could use all of the time between work and camping and feel justified in the cost.
I'm looking for a chair that allows me to sit relatively level and not stuck in a hole basically I want my knees to bs level or lower then my lower back. Sitting like that is so bad for your lower back. This one might be OK but I'm sure I could make something better
Looks like an awesome chair Luke and comfy. Just wondering if “Big Agnes” tested herself 😂 😂😂😉😉😉 I have a “Walkstool Comfort 75” over priced and oh not so comfortable !
Have to look, but fairly sure my Helinox chair is the same weight even with the back, at the same price point as well. If so, this is a step down. I'm still stalking the channel for the DOD tipi tent test night😉🤣

I agree. I just turned 60 and have a bad back and neck. I need a high back chair to support my head so I can rest and relax.

Hahahahaha That's really funny; unfortunately most companies don't provide review samples; honest reviews aren't what most are looking for.

Strength and honor brother. What is your preferred chair that you use most of the time after a long hike and value? I received a reply to go to a different app that I do not use. Sorry. I still sent a reply to it but not sure if you received it.
Made in the US, huh!! That is just excellent! 👏👏👏
I love mine. Buy once, cry once..... Right Luke?
try to use some walking stick pads on the stool feet :)
Video description is wrong Luke
Found an orange one on sale. Delivered price: $69.03
What would you recommend for heavier people? I'm around 350 lbs and interested in something that wont break the bank but will hold the weight.
Still have old stats displaying: 3,853 views Oct 25, 2022 Today Luke is previewing a very large Tipi tent that's from the Japanese outdoor company known as DOD Outdoors. Great looking product, but just too expensive for what it is.
Random question, but were you the jogger in the movie "Wolf"?
Amazon has the yellow one without the bag for $75.
what's the maximum weight it can take?
Great review as always! 100 USD is good for you, in Amazon Japan costs 21000 yen that is almost 200USD 😱and that is the same price that the Big Agnes chair with high back have. Even the Big Agnes chair with low back is 16000 yen. Not sure why this stool costs so much.🤔
I don’t see why you would get this over the Helinox Chair Zero? It seems to be a similar chair, without the back support, same price and heavier!
I think the description of the video is not quite right, but nice review anyway! Thanks :)
I want to like this stool; I have a BA tent which I really love & they make great products. However, my current backpacking stool's seat is 18" off the ground whereas the BA one is only 15". I can see from even when you sit in it, your thighs are not parallel to the ground. Your knees are bent at
I just got the onetigris camping chair for $40.00. Need I say more?
Get a Kermit Chair. Luxury when camping
You probably won't see this, but I'd like to see you do a review of the wild country helm 1 or 2 tent's. Their a UK brand.
I’m sure you could find a tree close by for a backrest mate :)
Helinox Chair Zero has a back and is actually lighter, I'll choose that every day
Unless ultralight would be a priority, I’d prefer to have a back support.
i gotta say there warranty sucks i tried to get a new seat cover and basically got told to f... off we dont have extras
I wonder why you didn't compare this to a slightly more expensive Chair Zero?
If the fabric is exceptional at the contact points of the frame and doesn't punch through its worth every penny.
I need something that will last longer than a week. Been through many chairs
