In this session we construct a basic great working RX Pre-Amplifier Step By Step. Then we install it in a perfect working unit and also test it on camera.
I still will ask, if there is someone out here that actually understands what each and every little part is doing and can explain what each part does, it will be a blessing to me.
I have my estimated guess on what it happening and I explain it in the video. Maybe you can let me know how close I was.
Awesome video as usual!!! I've built amps off an on for over ten years and learn something new from other builders all the time. I'm from the school of learn as I go and ask question when I get stumped. Looks like you've done the same. Keep up the great vids! I hope to get a few done and on my channel, starting my biggest amp build to date a 16pill most I've done is 2 pills with an occasional 4pill so I may be asking you a bunch of questions.

The diode is just rectifying. The resistors are for biasing. The cap on the power in is a filter. The caps on the in and out are matching.... The transistor literally does all the work, just like your 2879's etc. There other components job is just to make the transistor work... 73's

Yes the 330 and 150 can both be 103 or 104 or 101 they are coupling caps and i would love to see what mathematical equation Texas Star or whoever used to find the 330 and 150pf coupling caps you know?

Howdy. My thinking only.
The transistor is PNP so the + should be regarded as ground and - as hot. The diode seems to be in anti-parallel with the base - emitter junction. It may be a surge or spike protector of the transistor. Or perhaps a input signal clipper in case of overdrive.
I should think the 68 k is for biasing the transistor and the 470 ohm on the collector delivers a rather low output impedance. The 68 k + the 470 ohm also form a thermal stabilization setup. The 10 nF cercap is almost certainly for filtering and shorting any residual RF on the + - rails.

I dunno if you mean the spike diode when youre saying static diode across the relay coil. It's for the reverse polarity 'spike' that's induced when the coils magnetic field collapses ie when the coil turns off. It can be quite a few volts that diode is snubbing!

Honestly buddy I'd have to watch this whole video to see bud typically you will get 3 to 5 s units with my current gk pre circuit.

Hi gatekeeper! I was looking into what a preamp actually does and mostly the info that I have found says that it is used primarily to clean up receive signals. Is this correct?
I thought it was there to boost a weak radio output.
No a preamp is used to boost your incoming signals. It isnt designed to to clean up your signals but to boost what is already there. For example if your speaking with someone and they are barely loud enough for you to hear, you can hit the preamp and it will increase your receive a little bit but some preamp introduce more noise with it and some introduces less. I have one coming out soon that is amazing! Called the GKpre. Be on the look out and thanks for stopping by.

gatekeeper where do you get the components that you need to build these preamps. all we have in our area is a radio shack. but they usually dont have what we need. Tommy in Arkansas

The transistor help to amplifies the sound
No amplify the RF which then yes makes the sound louder because the signal is is getting stronger

Hi Gatekeeper, can you tell me if this will work in a tube type base linear?
Bee Keeper of course this has nothing to do with the amp. You just need to find your self a 12 to 18v DC PWR Connection to use for the preamp. You may need to rectify a 12vAC with a rectifying diode and a filtetcap to get your dc voltage incase you dont have a supply already.

whats the specs on the relay and also how could you put this is a radio or use it stand alone does anyone know
CampingHam jones you would need an Invert Circuit...all the preamps i install now in my Builds have one and can be used with the amp off.

Old video I know, did anybody ever tell you what, why and how this circuit worked? Your schematic was kind of cartoonish but pretty sure I got the gist, at the very least I would need to know the pin out of the transistor.
The 68k resistor provides regeneration, the diode limits the gain, the 104 cap clamps stray rf and the other resistor limits the current to your transistor.
That comment below covered the most important parts...couldn't have said it any better my self lol. Cartoonist...guess my whole life is like a fairy tale lol 😅🤣🤣😅🤣
