I thought for sure Jack was bluffing to some degree and had some really interesting mashup planned for track 10. Seems like he wasn't kidding. They just sold track 10 and these guys bought it.
Take it again From the beginning Why don't you change your tune? Always the same Day after day Every moment you spend here Wasting our time Push us as you please Give us a new direction Leave us while you go Off and away Straight out the door Back to your friends Tell them you don't need us anymore Time and again Every promise you make us Wears us away Push us as you please String us along Set us at ease Leave us as you go Off and away Just like before Take back your words And tell us we're not worth it anymore Straight out the door Back to your friends Tell them we don't need them anymore
Just came back here after seeing Vulfpeck's announcement video again - I'm so glad y'all were given more than two and a half minutes (the length Jack originally mentioned) cause this is hauntingly pretty
OMG.......'Off and Away' is so incredibly BEAUTIFUL......I absolutely adore STRINGS, especially laying over such awesome chord structures. I truly admire this group. Truly a fan for LIFE!!!
Wow. What a fantastic piece. So many complexities, such good musicians, a great arrangement, wonderful sound design. All-around an incredible song. I've been listening on loop for an hour. Way to go
This song popped up and started playing without me doing it so I read the title which grabbed my attention and I became interested in listening to it- in fact I read the title again and thought CREATIVE INTERESTING what’s this song about I thought to myself I figured it MUST hold a message I needed to hear- the music is phenomenal and excellent - vocals are a perfect match - lyrics are good good- this song definitely alluring inclusive illumination and it’s a nice song 🎵
I wasn't expecting much when I heard about the auction, but man this song caught me off guard. This is an absolutely gorgeous song and in a way reminds me of Ratatouille? In a very good way.
Después de 2 años de haber escuchado está belleza de música, me sigue emocionando su música, tan preciosa y tan fluido que encajan tan bien todo, espero pronto escuchar más de ustedes ❤
I no longer have any adjectives for your wonderful music ... this time it takes me to a soundtrack from the 80's, from the middle of, it reminds me of James Bond OST, "four minutes are not enough" I hope it lasts another four more !! As always, fantastic!
i've only recently become a full-time Vulfpecker - like three days ago (i know right, but i do live at the bottom of the world), and have been listening to anything and everything of theirs i can get my hands on - this came completely out of sideways, though - but what a wonderful way to promote someone else's band! Thom Yorke must be tickled pink.
Thanks so much! This one's sort of about the music biz- struggling with labels in particular. I worked on a record by an amazing artist a few years ago. A bunch of great tunes. It got ditched by a label after a solid month in studio just to record it. The artist must have spent years writing everything. -Myles
In case anyone else was trying to figure this out, this is my read on it: *Intro* G Fm (AbM7) Bb AbM7 *Verse* G Fm (AbM7) Bb AbM7 G Fm (G) AbM7 Bb G9 Fm (AbM7) Bb AbM7 G Fm (G) "Push us as you please..." AbM7 Bb Cm Gm Fm Bb Bdim *Chorus* Cm G Fm Bdim/D "Any..." Cm G Fm AbM7/Bb "..more" AbM7 Gm F Absus2 The rest are repeats of past parts Part of the reason the harmonic choices here are so engaging and so good is because they slide between different key choices in places, such that the beginning has G major and F minor, but in the close of the chorus we actually have G minor and F major. The small detail tricky changes are what make the song so good. Always open to feedback, just was toying around on the guitar but this is at least pretty close (only one I'm less certain of is the Bdim/D because the instrumentation makes it a little hard to hear what's going on there).
Wow! This is so close to the chords as we wrote them. Very cool! Here's how we think of it. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1J9JMEh372wg9GrPaERhbakDJCFH-iYiM?usp=sharing This is the strings score from our recording session. Chords are in there and below. @@EarthquakeLights WOW thank you so much for replying with this detail and showing the score -- I really appreciate the thoughtful comment! I love your harmonic choices so as soon as I heard the song I had to figure it out and figured I could maybe help other people experience the song in a different way. Also, the Ddim7 and especially the Dhalf-dim7 were driving me CRAZY because I knew I didn't have it *quite* right but those diminished chords share so many notes and your orchestration is pretty thick at that point so I just couldn't quite get it. This is a big mental relief :) Also I could hear that the Cm(7) wasn't quite it but I couldn't figure out that it was because it was M7 on it -- really nice touch and makes sense with the way you were playing around with that B / Bb tension in the tune
@@JackHanlon Hugely appreciate your interest in the harmonies, and actually you've really successfully highlighted a lot of what we like about these changes too, honestly you nailed it. Those dim chords are for sure a little bit ambiguous sounding and that's one of the thickest parts of the arrangement too. Glad to share this to clarify.
Musical gold. What in the name of percussion is that SNARE DRUM??? Please guys, I gotta know the snare he used for this track!! Looks like a vintage Gretsch TW kit, but I couldn’t catch the snare. (Excellent drummer too, dude kept it in the pocket and made a veeeerrry slow beat groove, not easy)
Well spotted! That snare is actually one of (drummer) Steve's creations - he hand turned it from a spruce log and put some hardware on it. We call it the "Spruce Moose." Thank you so much for appreciating!
I have mixed feelings about this... Nice tune, talented blokes and all but after ingesting 9 tracks of Vulfpeck magic this will seem entirely too foreign and I'll likely wind up turning the album off more often than not. I was really hoping that track 10 would have been at the very least a collaborative effort.
These are kind of my thoughts While this is beautiful and fantastic in its own right, it feels so out of place on the album I'd listen to an entire album of this for sure, after things like 3 on E, Test Drive and even Poinciana, this feels so incredibly out of place Can't object to why they did it as it was neither my place nor my money, but the result isn't for me
Do one of you work with Steinway? My college's chamber choir took a tour of the factory last year and I think one of you mentioned that you were a part of this group.
The first time I heard this I was like "man, Theo's voice is so versatile...". Then I immediately went "I'm such an idiot..."
Great freaking song.
Great song indeed.........Peace from PHILLY, PA>
This sounds like a bond film intro sequence. Money.
Like Radiohead that made the song "Spectre" for a movie. 😊
i think it sounds very similar to Tomorrow never dies (1997) by Sheryl Crow
That was my first thought too!! I would love to see this as a Bond intro.
No more government subsidies for beautiful string sections!
It's like something out of a James Bond film, surreal vibe.
I totally agree Alejandra......
Oh yeah!
I was expecting funk, but I really love the string arrangement, and vibe.
Caught me off guard
I was really hoping the track was going to be a 3 minute ad for a real estate company
Joe Dart looks different here
I hear Radiohead, Ben Folds, Neon Ballroom Silverchair, Muse.
A well earned Track #10.
I'm getting an early Fiona Apple vibe, too.
@@IceburgMO shiiiiet, maybe it's time to dig into the Fiona Apple back catalog 🤔
@@IceburgMO duuude, yes... never is a promise
And some Elbow!
regardless of our references, they sound really good! Great song. :)
I heard Radiohead too, thats why I liked this song haha
Here comes the Vulfpack! Congrats on your contribution to their latest album! This is stunningly beautiful
Thanks for helping children out with the donation!
Vulfpeck are the best we are SO GLAD that's where the money went.
Wow this is great thanks to vulf money is going to charity and great music is being spread. Why don’t every big artist do this? It’s a win win
@caprice.t Idk maybe they're referring to vulfpeck as the children? lol
I hope Vulfpeck covers this.
That would rule
It gets funkier
Off and Away to funkville
Beautiful and haunting. All the love for Earthquake Lights.
I thought for sure Jack was bluffing to some degree and had some really interesting mashup planned for track 10. Seems like he wasn't kidding. They just sold track 10 and these guys bought it.
For 70k
Beautiful, caught my ear from the first few moments. Brilliant strings! Truly a mesmerizing piece.
This is INCREDIBLE, y'all. Seriously. Amazing way to end the album.
definitely not disappointed with this being track 10! I hope your string section goes on to collaborate with the Vulfmon
lolllllll yes
Take it again
From the beginning
Why don't you change your tune?
Always the same
Day after day
Every moment you spend here
Wasting our time
Push us as you please
Give us a new direction
Leave us while you go
Off and away
Straight out the door
Back to your friends
Tell them you don't need us anymore
Time and again
Every promise you make us
Wears us away
Push us as you please
String us along
Set us at ease
Leave us as you go
Off and away
Just like before
Take back your words
And tell us we're not worth it anymore
Straight out the door
Back to your friends
Tell them we don't need them anymore

You guys are incredible, seriously such a joy to the ears
My boyfriend introduced me to this, i love him for showing me such great music
That Gmin9 chord at 0:59 is so good
discovered you guys through Vulfpeck! This track is absolutely stunning, gets me emotional everytime. beautifully done

Radio-esque chords, heartbreaking chorus, reassuring string section, lovely song overall! You gained a new fan! ❤️
Magnifique ! Thank you !

As soon as i heard the first piano chord I knew that this was gonna be an excellent song. I even clicked the repeat button. Heard this all night.
So beautiful music ! Thank you !
Thank you so much for your contribution to humanity!
Congrats!
What a fantastic track.
How the hell do you afford a 70k dollar album spot?
Was it all their savings? A label?
Trying to guess which band member is the trust fund baby...
look at all those band members! Probably like $500 a pop
Really hope they answer the question, the song is nice but all I can think about is that they paid a fortune to get it on the album
Drums sound vulf compressed, are they insider trading?!
wow this song is absolutely amazing, gives me chills. Came for the vulf, stayed for the beauty
Is it bad that this is my favourite track on the new album?? Great job love it man
This song is one of the best I've heard in years! This is sooo beautiful

Ain’t no way you guys just dropped fire in a vulf album 3 years ago without me knowing
This is so beautiful❤️
Every song i lisent i love this band a little more, greetings from argentina
I'm back to say Monica Martin would sound beautiful, covering this song!

Such a pretty song! Well done, and great job being track 10!
Hey just dropped in to say this song on track 10 is really good. You have a new fan!
Vulf Army incoming.
Fantastic song!
Not bad, not bad at all. It will be strange not having the last track on a Vulfpeck album to be funky, considering that the b-side is always funkier.
Amazing!
Discovered this song 3 days ago and literally have played it like 20 times so far

JOE.DART.ON.THE... Hey wait !
Okay, the song is good, but why is no one talking about how good-looking the singer is?
I agree
Maaan this song is so worth 70k, incredible investment!
The vocalist sounds like Chet Baker for our generation ❤️ Very calm
I love the song but am I the only one who's confused how they got 70k?
Hopefully it isn't a loan, maybe a rich Dad
yo this is actually a sick way to end the album
Great song! Probably wouldn't have found you if it wasn't for "The joy of music, the job of real estate", really glad I did!
How did I find this .... Excellent!
U deserve MORE! Love u
Congrats on track 10!
Those drums sound like they've been through some Vulf compressor👀
Came here from the vulf album :D

Came expecting a punchline, and found no joke at all, this is great. The groove is smooth
Track 10! I think it rounds off the album really well, pleased to meet Earthquake Lights!
Thank you!! Pleasure to meet you too, happy to have you be a part of this :)
god this fits so well, i love it... and can i just say your singing is lovely
Thank you!!
This sounds fantastic.
I'm kinda hoping for a heavy dose of vulf compressor when it goes on the LP tho
