Quick tip: you can use the offset melody during a performance and it wont break your performance. You can load three songs, play the first two, use offset, then finish with the third, all without breaking your performance
It is genuinely so insanely fun. I love how they went back to world's style of horn. But then giving it fast enough and aggressive moves to compliment it. This is the best version yet imo.
@hopeasusisusi9189 and your opinion is a personal preference and you're allowed to have it. I didn't enjoy Rise's horn because of how simplified the note playing was. It fits the game perfectly but lacked uniqueness to compell me to enjoy it. To me Wilds hunting horn balances speed with power and provides an excellent skill ceiling. So respectfully to each their own. 🙏🏿
@@toakamar8369 Why not just have both available like in rise. That's my problem with it. They just took away 1 of the 2 ways to use a horn, makes no sense as HH has always needed more use. Rise gave it more use so keep those things.

Echo bubbles deal damage when playing songs. Which I don't think was mentioned in the video. Will likely be one of the most important damage tools for the horn, allowing you to potentially hit the monster over 20 times in one performance
It is mentioned in the video :) it was brief, but he mentioned it, and then said but he doesn’t think it’ll be worth stacking the echo bubbles even still, since monsters move so fast

Thanks for the guide, I played the HH and did not even scratch half of the things commented here lmao. ¿Maybe next heavy bow gun? seems to be the faster in speedruns right now.
HH is so good in Wilds. Fighting Rey Dau in his arena with my buddies, doing the echo bubble dance as he lightning slashed over my head, it felt very "Jack Churchill playing the bagpipes during an amphibious landing". Absolutely unhinged behavior and I love it.
One thing that wasn't mentioned: you don't need to play all 3 songs for an encore. While performing you can press Circle + Triangle to do an encore early
It does feel like the horn is gonna get the nerf hammer. But godamned is it fun to play. Less bombastic than world but a lot more world-like than rise. I just wanna play around with more horns, the one we got in the demo was a bit boring song-wise. I also think the offset move will be different for different horns, so gonna be interesting.
I really wish they made the training area available in the beta! It's my only real gripe, and it only makes sense. Every weapon has a new or changed variable and a more polished moveset, but there's no training area to thoroughly test out their movesets and see their combo schemes. Some weapons just aren't easy to learn or are less accessible than others, and I don't want to jump into a hunt with a weapon I barely know how to use. Luckily, you guys have been uploading these very helpful weapon showcases with all the new moves and mechanics! 😁
The MVs (damage of moves) are not final yet, it will definitely go through some fine tuning. With a training area to test the numbers now, it could be frustrating to the community if it doesn't match the final version
from my testing you don't really need to match the timing on the echo bubbles, you are able to spam the notes as fast as you can and still get the melody, in fact i'd say this is even better because even if you get knocked out before the animation ends you still get the song queued up
I don't think I heard it mentioned but fyi the timed doots from MHW still apply. Meaning you can stock 2 notes with a single attack. For example, an offset melody can be stocked with just 2 or 3 attacks instead of 4 by timing your red and white notes to activate during your triangle + circle attacks. Example 1: Forward triangle + circle = Yellow -Circle while horn is at apex of wind-up (holding it overhead) stocks a red note on attack Triangle + circle for back swing attack = 2nd yellow Triangle attack to stock white = 3 attack offset melody Example 2: Forward triangle + circle -Circle while horn is at apex of attack = red note stock Dodge Forward triangle + circle -Triangle while horn is at apex = white note stock = 2 attack offset melody This also works for the forward circle attack, during the wind-up for the second attack, press the corresponding button to stock another note. This can cut down melody stocking considerably, and every second counts for HH! Note: I haven't been able to hit it with the triangle attack, so I think it only applies to the attacks that have a wind-up animation.
Yep TLDR you can now add a second note during the "smash" of overhead smash (Forward triangle + circle), just like with flourish (forward circle) in MHWorld. Will be very useful when we have access to different horns on release. Edit: I think the video showed it during Sonic Wave demo. Might be unintentional but it wasn't emphasized.
I'll miss the capoeira spin that gave i-frames, but I absolutely love the direction they took for HH here! I'm also super happy they use the wirebug art for the focus special attack haha, it's a fun way to keep an old thing in a new mechanic
HH out of the 7weapons that I play was my least played. I played it from time to time, and this...seems super technical. Seems like if I actually want to use this weapon now I'd have to dedicate some time to it...but considering I probably won't be playing IG much anymore (my 2nd most played in World), maybe ill have some extra time to figure that out. If thats the case I'll definitely come back to reference this guide, very well made and to the point thank you!
I really like this new iteration of the Hunting Horn, the echo bubbles are so fun and being able hammer up a monster with foward encore is so cool, yet still the loss of being able to reposition oneself during encore bums the hell out of me. Backstepping and then K'O ing a monster was so cool from P3rd to World: Iceborne.
Also when playing a melody w performance after playing any song in the performance you can encore that song early by pressing triangle+circle instead of waiting for all three songs to play and then doing the encore. This ends performance early as well though probably doesnt do as much damage as the full performance.
In MHWI the HH was by far my main, but I found it wasn't so interesting or technical to play as the Charge Blad or the Sword and Shield. Now it really looks like the layers of technical play it needed to shine! Love the rythm game aspect too, it's quite on theme
I’m still new so show me grace lol. But man this is exactly what I thought trickster vocation would be in DD2! I cannot wait to learn how to play this game and dive into this world.
i'm really glad they didn't stick with the mhrise hunting horn changes, but i'm also kind of worried that they've made horn a bit too technical for my tastes. also, the R2+O+/\ combo to do an offset attack seems weirdly difficult to hit, the game keeps thinking i'm only hitting R2 or only hitting O+/\.
I wish people weren't so stubborn about telling people horn isn't a support weapon. It's undeniable that the big horn that buffs everyone and does middle-of-the-pack damage is designed to fill a support role. Nobody is going to think less of you because you play support. It's weird and comes off as insecure when every time anyone mentions horn it's prefaced with "but don't worry, team buff/healing/stagger/exhaust focused weapon isn't a support!" It's just annoying at this point.
I mean, yes the main mechanic is that it's buffing teammates and yourself. But that doesn't necessarily deny the capabilities of stunning/staggering monsters. Which is what I *think* people are trying to illustrate but it can come off a little silly. Cheers though either way. Love this weapon to death.
@SeanTheShinigami Yeah it's a sick weapon and I love using it I just get irritated seeing everyone repeat the exact same thing that isn't even really true every single time it gets brought up in any context. In most games nowadays supports still do damage so I just feel like it's a redundant point to try to make.
Best middleground explanation I can give as a HH main is that yes, it's a support weapon. Sure its kit is built in a way that it can support a team, but it's primarily a weapon. It's a beat stick, just a technical one.
It does annoy me as well. I get that the community is saying this to newbies to discourage corner dooting. "it's not a support weapon" is supposed to conjure the image of old MMO healers who spam heals from the back and never attack once but most recent games have moved away from that archetype. If you pick a "support" in any MOBA or hero shooter of the last 5-10 years you'll be playing a character who deals damage and crowd control, is sometimes required to attack to power their support mechanics and is perfectly capable of scoring a kill on their own. This is exactly what the HH does. So I get why people say it, but it's a poor way of saying it given that this is the one weapon designed precisely to appeal to support mains.
It's specifically to counteract the "It's OK to stand in the corner playing notes and never swing at the monster" contingent of horn users. I'm happy to be viewed as playing support. I don't want people to think I'm not going to contribute any damage, because they had someone join their quest only to stand in the corner being barely better than useless.
Hunting Horn is likely going to be the second most used weapon for many who want those buffs for their primary weapon. Probably will be the dual blade’s bestest buddy.
If they somehow bring back the Ninja Sword Advanced SnS that they had in MHRS. The massive sharpness level & +250% Critical strikes made you a boss against any giant monster. In seconds you made wound spots & sliced of pieces from them.
Seems a bit overly complicated for me now. I mained Worlds HH and loved it. How in the world do you remember all of this while a raging mountain of scales is flopping all over the map?

I fear that new players won't play this as it seems so complicated to start. Rise was very beginner friendly for HH. Lets wait and see how it will turn out. Most People will play longsword yet again I guess haha
did they remove the spinny hunting horn move from mhworlds
You think the hunting horn is just some side accessory to pull out and put away when it benefits you.
You aren't worthy of it.
You merely adopted the horn.
We were born of the horn. Made men by the horn. Undone by the horn.
Without us, you never would have made it out of that nakarkos pit alive.
Sword N Shield next.
Can you do hammer?
Does anyone feel like the self-improvement movement speed buff is slower than in world? Or am I tripping?
Now give me back my boi gog's onyx terpsichore and I'll be set to main hh again
This iteration of horn is so fkn amazing. It's going to have some absolutely stupid tech in the full game. 🤣
Its fucking amazing also.
