Kalu Waterfall is the highest and largest waterfall in Malshej Region. Kalu waterfall originates from the Harishchandragad mountains and flows through Khireshwar village. Kalu waterfall falls from Deccan plateau to Konkan region. There is another falls near this waterfall known as Mahuli Waterfall (as per local people). Kalu waterfall and Mahuli waterfall meet and form Kalu River.
The surrounding region of Kalu waterfall looks beautiful and picturesque. Kalu waterfall falls in five stages. all five stages can not be seen at a time. Only rappellers can see all five stages of Kalu waterfall.
Trek route via Khireshwar village:
There are multiple trails from where you can visit the Kalu waterfall. Still, particularly the one that starts from Khireshwar village is the most famous and easiest.
The trek distance is mostly approximately 4-5 km and is a flat trail. It will take around 60 to 90 mins for you to complete the trek and get to the viewpoint from the top.
Trek route via Thitabi village jungle trail:
Alternatively, you can also go to the base of the Kalu waterfall and camp near the base.
You can hire a local villager as a guide to help you on the trail & with food arrangements.
The trail is 5-6 km long, and at the halfway point, you can witness the top part of the Kalu waterfall.
You must cross the Kalu river at one point, which is only possible from September onwards because of the river’s flow.
