Eating food with hands is our tradition and it’s a science. It ignites our senses. I prefer to eat with hands the food that is supposed to be eaten with hands. Like you mentioned, it definitely gives satisfaction.

I’ve never seen Indians here using hair oil (though maybe uneducated Indians off the boat may)I’m a second generation Indian American (grandparents immigrated here in the ‘60s). I know many Indians at work, friends etc, but excessive hair oil is not a problem. My parents did pay the full tuition for both of their children to go to a private university as did my grandparents. I’ve never heard anyone drink tea or any other drinks noisily. They may, but I’ve never noticed. Actually, I haven’t even noticed that when I’ve visited my relatives in gujarat. My family, both here and in India never bow down and touch anyone’s feet. My parents always taught us that only god deserved that respect. Indians do tend to be late as a group. This doesn’t mean everyone, but as a group, yes. Never saw anyone eat using their hands unless sometimes at the mandir or my grandparents generation at home). Most of the new indians (Gujarati’s) I know are professionals and full socialized in the western way. I’m a second generation Gujarati, but I’ll speak in Gujarati when I’m with other Gujarati speakers when I’m out. This is true of Hispanics also who will speak Spanish publicly. There is no need to be ashamed of our language. And yes, sometimes we are making fun of other people, so what? I’m proud that I can speak two languages fluently and will teach my children to also.

These are cultural differences.Most Indians are sensitive enough to modify their behaviour as soon as they become aware - some become more loyal than the king! Very entertaining and well presented.
