Alexander O’Neal was a musical genius and no one could interpret a song like he did. He and his musical Paramore, Cherrelle, made music so much fun in the late 80s.

The 'Your hair was long, but now it's short. You say "I got it cut!". But I don't see no hair up on the floor' wins best 80s lyrics award hahaha

Another classic Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis production; number one hit of 1987. The song was ahead of it’s time.

The Hearsay album is a masterpiece, as is Cherelle's High Priority.

I lived Minneapolis in the 80’s and saw Alexander O’Neil at a small club on Nicollet Ave called The Bowery. He was funky as hell. He was originally supposed to be the front man for the time, but it didn’t work out somMorris Day ended up with the job. You can hear that Minneapolis sound all over this,

His song "Criticize" is my favourite. Just got that smoothness/fierceness mix just right. "Fake" is a bit too intense for me and was back then. Loving the bassline tho.

This song is still SLAMMING and the bassline is SMOKING !!! LOL. And the message is also still revelant today.

One thing about this Alexander O'Neal song is that he gets in the girl's face, doesn't pull any punches and just flat calls her ass out for being a downright liar and a fake!! LMAO

Another timeless production by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. That groove is EVERYTHING and the subject is still relevant.

Empress:. He's calling her out because she is a liar. She can't even get his name right. He realizes then that she is a fake. And that's when he goes off on her.

I love the beat of this song and his tone is so cool, it kind of sound like something from Morris Day and the time

Alexander was actually the original lead singer of the Time before Prince fired him and replaced him with Morris. Also the song was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who was part of the Time and also fired by Prince.

Although he was referring to one specific woman, overall women are not too embracing to a song that's putting them down. You can't deny that beat though! Just like Bell, Biv and Devoe's hit, Poison....(Never trust a big butt and a smile). Now that beat was fire!

Oh jeez....I'm back.... ***ALEXANDER O' NEAL TRIVIA TIME!!*** ...let's fake toooooo ittttt.... (cont.)
    - "Fake" was influenced by the late-80's "Hair weave" phenomenon; during 1986-1988, BIIIIIG, long, flowing, Jackee ("227") hair-weaves were on EVERY Black Woman, and there was a backlash, wondering if a Girl actually had 'real' Hair, anymore....
    - "Fake" (Alex's Song) had an 'interlude' on the Album before it, where a mean Girl curses out Alex's Buddies (Jimmy & Terry, guest starring on the track),...they proceed to make fun of her... 'fake' Hair, nails, & contact lenses, calling her, "Big Chameleon Eyes", and chanting, '..Fake! ..Fake!..."
    - "Hearsay" is one the THE BEST 80's R&B Albums; It is one of the BEST 'Classic' Soul LP's with a more funky edge...If ANYBODY wants a GREAT 80's SOUL Album, it's Luther, or "Hearsay"....
    - ...as expected, the tune hit #1 Soul, and #27 Pop...a surprisingly good showing for a funk tune....let's shoot back in time to August, 1987's R&B charts, y'all.....
    10. I Wanna Dance With Somebody - Whitney Houston
    9. Thigh Ride - Tawatha Agee
    8. Jam Tonight - Freddie Jackson
    7. I'm In Love - Lillo Thomas
    6. I Feel Good All Over - Stephanie Mills
    5. The Pleasure Principle - Janet Jackson
    4. I'm Bad - LL Cool J
    3. Smooth Sailing Tonight - Isley Brothers feat. Ronald Isley
    2. Show Me The Way - Regina Belle

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Men complaining about how women accentuate themselves, yet this is what they liked 🤔🤔 Very confusing.....

ILS amazing how' different people think I remeber this song years ago and thinking what a great song. Now people are taking about women can wear whatever if they want. Its just a song people are so touchie nowadays

I wasn't Alive to Witness it to actually say it. But I'm quite sure this Song was a Big Hit when it came out and was Played in Clubs turning the Clubs out. I mean that Beat is what gives it that Juice.

The original singer of the Time...replaced by Morris Day.
"In The Middle" was one of his best tracks along with "Saturday Love" with Cherrelle.
