  • This colossal machine is called the SLJ900/32, or the Segmental Bridge Launching Machine. Created by Beijing Wowjoint Machinery Co, it can build this viaduct by extending beyond the installed segments to span to the next support, and roll the next pre-made bridge segment into place.

Some MIT guys went to see it for themselves. They asked the head engineer how it works so well.
He told them, "There are three main factors involved.
" First, we do critical analysis of load structures. We want to know exactly what the variables are, and quantify them with precision.
"Second of all, we work within very precise parameters. We know how far past the fulcrum of balance we can function, and maintain exacting standards of operation."
The MIT visitors nodded sagely. Then one asked, "You said three. What is the third factor?"
He said, "And third, but most essential..." He paused, and said quietly, "Every few days we bring in a new machine and hire new workers, to replace the ones killed when the old machine crushes them all."
      (...just kidding)

This reminds me of old fashioned American ingenuity, when your jaw would drop in awe of this invention.
All the Wal-Mart profits give the Chinese plenty of American dollars to spend on some incredibly amazing inventions.
We're second to China and that's scary.
