I grew up next to the Delaware River, and I think that as long as people that use the river for recreational purposes, should be allowed to do so as long as they respect the channel boundaries, and stay clear of them.

I've been boating in this river for years, not once has there ever been a problem. It sounds like this organization is trying to make something out of nothing to justify their existence. Pathetic.

Amber their not wanting to kill folks who cross paths with a vessel that can't manuever like a small boat.

I use to work the Ms. River ,USCG New Orleans, and small boats would dart back and forth as they wished. We would board them and explain an exception to rules of the road are large vessel restricted to channels. The worst we had was a sailboat northbound crossing the bows of large tankers. Sailboats NORMALLY have the right of way, but, meeting a 1000 ft.loaded tanker, with a 35 ft draft, heading downstream,is not the place to cross his bows. The man was screaming on the radio that he almost got run over. We boarded his boat, gave him the rulebook and a warning about being foolish. He read the rules and was astonished, seems a tanker with 35ft draft has to stay in the channel and has no chance of stopping heading downstream without going aground. I enjoy small boats but few read the rules and many actually mount their navigation lights backwards. Easy rule ,Port wine is red, port and left have 4 letters, red light on your left side looking forward

I'm all for people enjoying the water in whatever way they choose, but as a life long boater I have seen people do a lot of stupid sh*t. Boating among large ships requires you to be on your "A" game at all times. The operators of these vessels have no short range visibility in some cases and can also produce insane wash from thrusters. The water belongs to everyone, but we ALL have a responsibility to educate ourselves in proper operation of our craft. And I can tell you from a lifetime of experience, a large number of boaters are either clueless or don't care, that needs to change.
