Cutting Brass on the Onefinity CNC and Tinting Shellac

  • Working on the brass hammer prototypes and decided to try cutting brass on the cnc and I learned a few things. Also trying to tint shellac to see how it looks in the engraving.

    Liked that you showed how to recover from the engraving oopsie. Looking forward to the next video to see how the tinted shellac turns out.

      Yeah it was an easy fix. The engraving is only .5mm deep so it’s easy to get rid of.

    I really wouldn't use a downcut for the slotting operation. There is no fiber to tear like you have in wood, and I'd be concerned about packing chips in the hole. That being said, this gives me inspiration to open my Onefinity boxes and start making chips.

      Good point. I was taking pretty light cuts so I think it was good but my main reason was I don’t have an up cut bit 😂 I broke the last one.

    Different handle hole as well, will you use the lathe or hand made handles?

      Yeah I cut it so the head indexes square, that way it won't rotate. I'm going to try a couple different ways of making a handle incorporating a lathe and some hand shaping as well.
