Herbie is a Master Teacher! So many great tunes
playyyyyyy.... please.....plaaaaayyy...
"Rockit" was the ground-breaking music video that I saw as a kid until I realized MTV knew nothing about Herbie Hancock's other Musical Accomplishments as a jazz artists. VH1 would picked up jazz artists if they have music videos of the songs I never heard of before.
Hancock , my teacher , vision on music
The subtle Rhodes playing on "Butterfly" from Thrust is just sublime... Listen to it at least once a day......
A piano doesn’t mix with anything?
Herbie Hancock playing the Fender Rhodes is the Best Thing In The Universe.
I always love the story of when Miles first told him to play a Fender Rhodes and Herbie said to himself "He wants me to play that toy?"
herbie and his sound on rhodes piano with so unique improvisations will be remembered and enjoyed for the years to come....
Herbie Hancock along with Chick Corea are the Vanguards, The true pioneers, The Architects of Fusion Jazz as we know it today..... Thank you Maestro for all the scintillating contributions over the years...

Doctor Garbonzo, you’ve got to consider how far they or Joe Zawinul would have gotten without having been first employed by Miles Davis. Am I far off in guessing that Miles bought all three cats their first Rhodes models?
I had 3 musicians go out of their way to sign autographs for me. (Never asked them to) #1 was Herbie #2 was Chick #3 was Bernie Worrell.
that bottom just reminded me of Bitches Brew, damn, rhodes, pretty much created 4 new genres.
Great insight from a genius of the instrument
***** someone please notify me the day this cat finally starts to age ! good grief !...love ya', Herbie !
Never really thought about that a piano isn’t in an orchestra
My friend introduced me to Herbie in the early seventies. We used to drive around late at night listening to the album Thrust. When the part came up for Herbie to solo on Butterfly we just went into orbit. I guess it was the beautiful sublety of him and his Rhodes. I'm now in my seventies and still love to listen to this gentle man.
Groovy. I love this series. These cats are iconic keyboard guys.
I suggest everyone get the DVD its an incredible video
Herbie never ages lol.
A very avant-garde instrument… ☮🔥
I can related that
He still loves the Rhodes, that's clearly to see.
Too bad Donny Hathaway couldn't be on this series.
He used a Wurlitzer, didn't he?
He used both
Donny was a Wurli man..
@@JJDPROMEDIAPRODUCTION he used both regularly. Plenty of recordings of him on Rhodes. "Extenstion of a Man" is an album that feature Donny playing Rhodes on every tune. He also played it on a number of sides he arranged for Aretha (including some great Rhodes playing on "Daydreaming" and "Until You Come Back to Me"...
He was a fantastic artist! I only have one album of his. Need to check Tidal and download some more!
Damn Herbie.. water those plants...
Tell Me A Bedtime Story is one of the most beautiful Fender Rhodes pieces in existence.
Facts
Herbie has always had the best eyeglasses. This was a great video! We are so lucky to be alive with such great musicians with us the whole way.
... and the best WATCHES!
Pure plants in the background, please give them water :-)
Herbie and George Duke are the Supreme Rhodes players..
Il mio vecchio seventythree è color oro e non capisco perché, quelli che ho visto online sono tutti color argento...
The friendliest guy you could ever meet.
Check out all the records he did with Miles also !
Zawinul , Corea , Jarret played Rhodes also around that time.
Try "Ascent" by Miles....enjoy the analog sound and Miles ' "mistakes".
the cleanest a river could flow thats this mans creativity
Legend.. much love and respect for Herbie and the Rhodes
i'd trade 3:38 of talk for 0:30 of playing by Herbie.
Uhmm...true I guess??, but if you really appreciated Herbie as an artist, you would have no problem watching the man elaborate on a couple different things outside of directly playing. This video flew by for me, if you wanna see Herbie play, look up the hundreds of live videos online, not an interview clip.
Love the Rhodes, love Herbie. Great stuff... love it! Thanks.
Can't possibly make a documentary about Fender Rhodes without Herbie. He helped put that thing on the map.
Well .... Herbie was an Engineer Major in college 🤗
73
King Hancock!
Aww man thats the life....rich and semi retired....he is enjoying his life good for him ...
this is the guy who hooked me on rhodes........and never got back from it............ah, herbie
the plants haven't been looked after ug
Oh, plants! I thought that thing behind there was somekind of a little animal like a possum or something hangin by his tail! :)
gee wiz
Tough to be on the road a lot
@@MrPartidoalto and broke?
I need one of these quick
Vernell Thomas I woke up thinking about these just now. They weigh more than my REAL piano, tho.
Zero 7 As it Falls. That's what got me here this time.
I’ve already tried my hand at using a suitcase 73 model built before that’s how they were identified. Bought it secondhand from a friend, and less than 10 months later the amp died on me (too much in#house humidity). If I ever get myself another one, I want it to be an 88 key stage piano.
the sound of raindrops
why is this video so short.... bluhrgh.
herbie heinrich st skeetmalism
KING OF THE RHODES
Master !
Herbie is THE GREATEST!
100% agree regarding "hard to blend" .. acoustic piano is solo instrument , but for live performance/blending you can "cut" highs down to 50% and then it gets more flexy (i'm talking about electric "grand pianos").
Song Maker so...you're in the club of doomed would who tried to move one, huh?
sooooo. when does he start playing?
pop did you know that one of the greatest Djembe players to ever live... My friend, teacher, ultimate inspiration was murdered by gun violence ... was named Wandishi ....I must ask you what inspired that name one day... Wandishi was and absolute angel of Djembe
It's Mwandishi. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mwandishi
He wasn't killed by a gun, he was killed by a murderer. Liberalism is the transfer of blame from the guilty to the innocent... wherever you find someone who hates guns, you will also find someone who doesn't support the death penalty for convicted killers.
One of the most copied and cloned instruments, together with Hammond tonewheel organ. Although some came pretty close, no one ever truly copied the sound of this divine instrument. Because this instrument has SOUL and very soul cannot be copied. Real thing is real thing and copy is a copy. Let's leave it at that.
Id rather play a Rhodes than a Yamaha Motif
Everyday man.
Michael Langley I'd rather PAY someone ELSE 50 bucks to move it, tho, lol.
Galactic Vixen I’d say the Rhodes is actually a copy of the Wurlitzer (evolved if you will).
i would like once in my life to own a Fender Rhodes or a Hammond tonewheel (not the digital version) but ya'll know the cost and the retention...
now..is that THE Headhunters Rhodes?
I'd assume so. The way he talked about taking it to the factory x amount of times & getting his own repair kit he doesn't seem like he'd ever need another. Also looks like a Mk. I.

Only of its the suitcase with the amp...guess you could use a baby Leslie..."I'll throw in the black keys for free."
