  • Very few people in the history of Wabash County have had as colorful a background as Major Meredith Kidd. A lawyer by trade, Kidd came into his own during the Civil War enlisting as a Captain and reaching the rank of Lt. Colonel by war's end. Following a brief return home he soon returned to the military and became a major in the 10th Cavalry when it was organized and assigned to guard the Santa Fe Trail. The 10th Cavalry became famous and its became known as the "Buffalo Soldiers".
    Meredith Kidd passed away at the age of 79 in Huntington, IN and is buried in Falls Cemetery, Wabash IN.
