The deep "thup" sound of the bullet impact is just magic. Waterfowl must be taken with a shotgun in the US, so this video feels particularly naughty to me. 😈
Hornady's ballistic calc app in "4DOF" mode was very accurate for me with the 143gr ELD-X (once MV was confirmed) out to ~700yds, and I believe within 1/2 MOA out to 1000yds. Only got to shoot past 450yds that one trip, but my Element Titan performed wonderfully! Seeing a torso sized steel plate move at 1k for the first time is something I'll never forget
Beautiful as always. Slotted a few Canadian geese with my old trusted 222 in the UK a couple months back., admittedly at a much closer ranges though. (200/250 metres)
Something that might help. I live in Nevada USA where wind is ever present and we are shooting ground squirrels and marmots (aka rock chucks). You can try heavier bullets like 55 gr or wind flags on the fences or trees it helps. Good hunting
I believe both the.22-250 and the 6.5 Creedmore both use the .250-3000 Savage as a parent cartridge. The Creedmore is so efficient it really punches above it's weight class. It's really an "intermediate" cartridge design that with modern bullets and powder successfully bridges the gap between intermediate and full power cartridges. It really baffles me that the US army went with a 80,000psi 6.8 round that kicks like a mule in a 12 pound rifle to gain a few percentage in drop and energy. Fantastic shooting and video BTW!
Here in Germany they are called Nilgans (nile goose). They have been expanding a lot in the 50 years. You now have them pooping all over the place where people want to bike or put their towels at a public pool. They are also considered an invasive species in EU.
Nice hunt! Nice to see when other hunters pick some egyptian goose. I prefer the 223 federal 53gr V Max with a remington 783 heavy barrel, it's like a laser. First I want to buy a ruger 243win and load it with the 58gr vmax but then take a 223 about the many brands and loads of factory ammo on the market.
Excellent shooting! When you shoot the powder rifles, the geese fly off. Do you know if it's the report of the rifle, a goose dropping dead, or the bullet hitting nearby? If you shoot a goose near other geese with a very quiet air rifle, do they fly away? Curious if a rifle that is very quiet AND a semi-auto will let you continue to shoot at the flock that is in the field. Pigeons seem to get used to the little noise of an air rifle and may not fly away if not hit. My AR-15 is good for 100-200yds, is semi-auto, and can be quieted down. Great video too!!
Greetings from upstate New York USA. Great shooting entertainment. I expect shooting centerfire cartridges can get a bit pricey. I've used 17 HMR with good results and keeping costs down. Curious if you've tried this round.
Those hyper fast light weight for purpose flat shooting calibres have their uses but they can fall apart at longer range. The long slender high BC heavy for calibre bullets work so much better for modern long range shooting with range finders and good optics etc. But if you're wanting the flattest MPBR for an easy to use point and shoot rifle, then those aforementioned calibres work very well indeed.
Recoil management is a big one though, especially shooting from weird positions. I’m going to rebarrel my .22-250 with 1:7” twist Ackley Improved and shoot 75gr ELD-Xs😁 Then I’ll have a killer setup!
22-250, excellent choice. Many years ago I was a prairie dog shooter, 10 to 15 inches tall and 2.5 to 5 inches wide. 22-250 with Nosler 55gr ballistic tips at 4100 out of a rem 40X. Second gun 223 improved with 55 gr Nosler BT at 3850. 3rd gun Ruger m77 in 243. 70 gr ballistic tip at 3725. There are a lot of dead dogs in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, N &S Dakota. Shooting places for dogs are gone. At times I could get 500 on a good field in a day. I like to sit in one place and bang away all day.
Do you guys order stuff on line ? Do you reload your ammo? Have you guys heard about trail boss powder? It's the most versatile powder ever , for any caliber .
Curious on the need to eliminate "as many as possible". Not judging as I'm a hunter as well, just curious. Also great video and well done shooting wise. Some of those looked like they'd be hard shots.
@@waldo713 I am not sure about that, I have seen actual footage from an AC 130 gunship where they used the 105 howitzer to kill an insurgent. Only parts of that person I saw were one arm an one leg flying in opposite directions. the 22-250 is nice but at those distances i would want something with a bit heavier bullet , maybe a 223 in a 68-77gr bullet . 6.5mm Creedmoor is a $$$ round to use on just geese. if you got the money 224 valkory is another choice
Can you not get 22WMR or 17hmr? Something a bit cheaper or is that cheap there? I know you’d have to get closer but be use a semiauto. Either way, cool vid and looks fun
Interesting. In the USA, we have migratory fowl treaties with Canada and Mexico. There are limits, and requires a special game stamp for my hunting license. Only shotguns shooting shot are allowed, no rifles. This also goes for ducks and dove.
When that 22-250 barrel is shot out, it's time for a 22 creedmoor. I'm running 88gr Eld-ms at 3200fps. BC is just as good as a 6.5 but it is extremely flat
these geese seem very similar to the paradise duck in new zealand (which is actually more a goose )they even make the same sound .If they do behave the same way you might consider that they are very easy to decoy and if so getting 50 to 60 in an afternoon is not unusual.
I'm curious. Are you harvesting them for food, sport or do they propose a problem on the farm and why don't you tag team them together and bag 2 at the same time. Just curious and thanks for the videos. BTW nice setups.

It might be fun and efficient to be naughty 😎
The deep “thup” sound is like music to my ears, sorta a “be flat” thup sound.
Ted, I believe waterfowl must also be shot in flight as well as only using a shotgun if I am not mistaken.
Hahaha.... Thup!!!! Exactly my sentiments....
Really the easiest way to tell if you got a good hit... THUMP ..."audio confirmation" is what we jokingly call it!
I am over to SA in May and the numbers of geese and pigeon looks to be better than ever. Can't wait. Season starts May 1st.

I actually use the 40gr. Nosler BT in my 22-250. It's laughable how fast they slow down. It's like they've got a little parachute behind them.
Looking at the 22 creedmoor, Josh and Holly outdoors, seems this has a long bullet and can hold in the wind, need to look at it some more.
22-243 and 22-250 AI have been used with 80-90 grain bullets for many many years.
Beautiful video as always. Soon to hit one million.
65 creed is a 7mph baseline cartridge. 0.1mil hold per 100 in a 7mph full value.
