I would be inclined to fix it yet. I've gotten bad starters before. Like you said. Starters really aren't a big deal. Sure looks like Hesston swather to me.
Hello Dave & Doc, I believe that due to the pretty nice overall condition of the Case tractor that I would make the effort to do the work to get the tractor back up and working again depending on the availability and pricing of parts that you may possibly have to purchase. Like a previous comment alluded to, I think that the front axle looks way too light for a loader tractor. That front axle on the Case tractor looks like a larger version of the cast front axles that are on my 1980s 682 & 1710 Cub Cadet tractors which is not meant as a insult to your Case, But as a comparison. Would it be possible to swap out that axle to a heavier front axle off of another tractor maybe? I am totally unfamiliar with changing the steering box on the Case tractors, So that would make for an interesting video.
Its not the tractors fault that you likely fried the starter cranking it with the throttle closed. 😕 Fix the tractor. Sell the loader separate. I had that vintage 930 western special. Nice drawbar tractor. Turns short because of short wheel base. 😋
Make sure the battery cable is good and clean at both ends. Had one on my Jeep that sat covered and developed a tarnish like a bronze baby shoe at the starter end. Totally dead. Cleaned with sandpaper and no more problems. Valve body likely for bleed off. Maybe clean interior ? As for the steering on that I haven't done one so no clue there. Looks pretty good.
Hesston 1091 Mower conditioner. Save the tractor for sure. Your asking price would go up but for a loader tractor, that is pretty reasonable. Keep it up
I was thinking that for a brief period Case purchased Hesston hay equipment and badged them as CASE. This would have been about the time Case acquired International Harvester. They painted the Case tractors red and had CASE decals. A year or two later Case wised up and changed to CASE International for their decals though the tractors were still Case. Even later they came out with the Magnum tractor series which were closer to the future tractor IH had planned but didn't have the money to bring to market. During this time, Case was owned by Tenneco (the oil company) and was flush with cash. I worked as a salesman at a company owned store then. We even got vested in a Tenneco retirement plan. Good times for employees. The old IH hay line was discontinued and replaced with Hesston for a few years before Case, IH, and New Holland product lines were merged.
Sit down with a paper and pencil, add up the cost of everything, best and worst case scenario than figure out is it worthwhile to fix and sell, or does it become a parts tractor tfor future projects.
Looks Heston to me. Wasn’t Heston suppling Case with hay equipment back in the day. As for the 930, see if the numbers make sense from a business perspective. From a Case enthusiast perspective, fix it no matter the cost. 😂
Hi Crazy D. Case 930. Pull the loader off put on different tractor. Put a new starter on the 930. Sale as is noting the problem. Or if buyer wants it fix charge for labor fixing it , through the part free. Haybine is a Hesson. My uncle had one of them.😊
I see your dilemma, recently fell into a 63 430g nicknamed it "the nutty case" after 1 year relationship. I pull it in to fix one thing instead fix 15. The parts and information seem hard to get when it is working it is worth its weight in gold. Fix it if needed otherwise sell to collectors. Thank you for your videos and knowledge you are awesome
Dave, from a business point of view, cut your losses and sell as is or use for parts. From your reaction and experience you already know you are heading down a rabbit hole. You might be able to turn it as is to someone who wants the project or needs the parts. Just my 2 cents. Jeff
Dave its a easy decision if you fix it will you make money if your going to lose money and you may already be upside down even if you break even thats a slow death fix only ifs its going to make a profit
I don't know if it makes financial sense, but from a purely emotional standpoint, please fix it. I grew up on a northern Oklahoma farm, and 930s were our main plow/disc/drill tractors for many years. Even after upgrading to 1175s, we kept a couple of 930s around because they were such workhorses. I have a huge soft spot for that era of Case tractors, and 930s in particular. I'd hate to see another one lost.
Probably sell it without the loader for around twenty five hundred dollars to someone that would want to patch it up to run a feed mixer or etc better than seeing it getting parted. If I'm not mistaken the other is a hesston 8 foot maybe 10 I can't remember haven't seen one since I was a kid like thirty something years ago.
it's not uncommon on the older diesel tractors 😊😊 that U have 2 pull the throttle down when U start them the starter can be rebuilt 😊😊 and steering box has 2 be rebuilt or changed U can't drive like it is most people did put grease fittings on them so they could grease w out taking the plate off every time that's what happened didn't no 1 check steering box oil and now the work has 2 be done narrow front tractors when wheels start flopping from side 2 side they need wheel bearings and races both sides the lift a spool may be bad or the whole things needs 2 be rebuilt might be a bad spool or spool vavle 😮😮 OMG 11 2O 2O23
Put it up as is, and if in a month its still sitting there. Then part it out down to the lsst nut n bolt you can get off of it that's worth using again. Even the shell of the steering housing is worth something to someone somewhere. That way you cover the expenses of taking it apart, and storing the salvageable parts. Then inventory every piece you have, and then you advertise what you have with a set price, and remove it from inventory as your sell it off. Case closed
I know you find lots of different tractors I would like to find a 830 comfort king ans a 930 comfort king both diesel I see many gas that not what I would like to have As far as thus tractor goes steering box not that hard to change but I don't know about the standard model it in not to bad of shape so it maybe good to fix would be good to have as a loader tractor I not have farm but other things I can use it for thx dan
All the "little" items on the to do list will likely add up to more than you can sell the tractor for. Kind of a small loader for a tractor that wasn't designed to be a loader tractor. No 3pt hitch. Sell the loader, the good running engine, and whatever else you can and move on.
I would be inclined to fix it yet. I've gotten bad starters before. Like you said. Starters really aren't a big deal. Sure looks like Hesston swather to me.

LOVE an old CASE!!!!!

I would still fix it looks like a decent tractor especially if it was running strong
I've saw western special 930s both way. Foot clutch & hand clutch
Thanks
Hesston haybine, they are good little haybines

For me, I wouldn't mess with the case. Find a case guy to take it off your hands.
I would go ahead and make the repairs 🚜

Numbers never lie. Agree on using math to make it a rational decision not emotional. Then you’ll never wonder.
Great job to Sr! I bet he will be glad to get back to his retirement once your eye is better!
I think it’s worth repairing.
Yeah if the motor good. Keep working on it cause it no big deal. Go go it
Looks Heston to me. Wasn’t Heston suppling Case with hay equipment back in the day. As for the 930, see if the numbers make sense from a business perspective. From a Case enthusiast perspective, fix it no matter the cost. 😂

I'm watching this channel due to Tyler. No interest in ever owning a tractor but love these videos.
As is 3500 should sell easy give it a try
The loader wrecked the steering box, so now you know why the loader has to go
Dave its a easy decision if you fix it will you make money if your going to lose money and you may already be upside down even if you break even thats a slow death fix only ifs its going to make a profit
Had a PT 7 Heston looks like it is built the same

Smelter bait.
Fix it and get it back to work there are enough parts tractors around. That one is in too good a shape
Turning mole hills into mountains. Just fix it
I think I drove a Case like that when I was a kid. It had flotation tires on the back.
Probably sell it without the loader for around twenty five hundred dollars to someone that would want to patch it up to run a feed mixer or etc better than seeing it getting parted. I would fix it up. Worth more done right. But I grew up on and love Case

If nothing else sell it as is
Those tractors are not a loader tractor
scrap it
That front axle looks small probably won't work for a loader tractor
