I grown up in Immokalee, went to the preschool where itech is now, attended Pinecrest, Highlands, Lake Trafford, Immokalee middle and high school and even PACE for a year. Sadly the cost of a home and overall living became to much so my dad decided to move us to Alabama after he was able to buy 2 and a half acres of land here. I went back after 5 years during summer 2017 and it felt weird, some places were the same and others changed and our favorite food shops were overpriced now. Although I missed Immokalee, my old friends and family it had become foreign to me and I ended crying the whole summer wanting to go back home to Alabama
I’m Seminole In 1969 at ten years old, on the weekends, my sisters and I picked vegetables along side our mom making $10 a day for school clothes and shoes. Mom just passed away in 2021 from Covid, she was 91. The casino is built on the Immokalee reservation. Just like the farms helped Seminoles with employment, the casino helps Immokalee citizens with employment.
Plain and simple. a community grows-things become more expensive and then overcrowding occurs which results in higher taxes. I say keep Imokalee small and not allow anymore casinos-keep it homey and simple.
Because of the greed of the rich people in Naples heartless County Commissioners forced a lot more people in poverty out here Immokalee is my home these freaking wealthy people coming to the casino scared to go past it and the Seminoles out here promise to put money into our community they didn't yes they give people jobs but that's it but only a select a few
