Blinders, also known as hoods, are an important piece of any falconer's toolkit. Birds of prey are not used to sudden movements and changes in light. These things can startle the birds causing them to possibly hurt themselves. Being unable to see apparently makes them think they are safe and calms them down. A good falconry hood does not bother the bird.
