I saw Modest Mouse live in 2009. It was in the middle of a heat wave, they venue was cramped, the organizers were giving out free water because they were afraid of passing out, and the band still brought so much energy. I dont think they expected to be well known there, because they seemed surprised and excited when the crowd was singing along to lesser known songs. Best concert I've ever been to.
Was skeptical when I clicked, but man, I agreed with like every single one of your takes. But Bury Me With it fckn goes!! Well done and nice editing on this
Got here from a deep dive on Neutral Milk Hotel, and the only thing I did disagree with on this was with Bury Me With It. I felt like that song was placed perfectly, and tied the album together with the central theme of "good news, for people who love bad news." I cannot lie though... The song had to grow on me, but it became an unskippable.
You've got a new sub here. I really appreciate how you take the time to jump into tracks themselves as opposed to just talking generally about the record. The background imagery to reflect the tracks also adds to the entertainment value. You definitely seem like you'd be fun to talk about the band with. But dawwwwwg, no EPs? BNOOS, No One's First and Parlour Tricks are essential, man! No bullshit there!
I’m glad you enjoyed the video!! Thanks for the sub :) I’ll definitely have to do a part 2 sometime soon talking about the eps and compilation albums I missed in this video
I physically gasped when I saw your subscriber and viewer count, you’re hella underrated man. For the entire video I felt like I was just talking with a buddy about music, and that’s a really hard feeling for a lot of content creators to capture today. You’re gonna blow up broskito and I can’t wait to watch you all the way, subscriber well earned! (=
@@KyleReidMu no problem man im glad I could make your day, I know getting big on UA-cam these days is really hard but you def got the talent and personality for it, keep grinding bro!
As a long-time modest mouse fan, really interested by your takes here. I personally really liked Strangers to Ourselves, and had similar issues with The Moon and Antarctica and Lonesome Crowded West that you described with Strangers to Ourselves. I love both the former albums to death, but find heart cooks brain, convenient parking, the cold part, and even trucker's atlas a bit dull. (Especially having to skip the endless instrumental loop at the end of it haha). However, those two albums have most of my favorite Modest Mouse songs ever, and I couldn't agree with you more about teeth like god's shoeshine. For me, it's felt as though the newer albums don't have highs quite as high, but the whole tracklist is much more steady and consistent. That being said, I can see what you mean with most of the latter half of Strangers to Ourselves being a bit on the weaker side, though I quite like Wicked Campaign (though be brave is kinda eh for sure.) Overall, there's something about that album's consistent vibe that gave me a pretty unique way to zone out and ride it, leading to the climax of sugar boats, before it starts putting me back down. I don't think my placements would be dramatically different by any means, but I could never places Sad Sappy Sucker over any of the others. It's great in a lot of ways, but I just don't see it without giving it bonus points for their young age. I haven't listened to Golden Casket enough to have strong feelings, but I'm fucking stoked to have it. I enjoyed the video, and I'd be interested in seeing you do an expanded tier list that includes No One's First and You're Next, Building Nothing out of Something, and Everywhere and His nasty tricks (The Fruit that Ate itself as well if you feel it's earned it). After all, Sad Sappy Sucker is listed as a compilation album, and those three have some of their best songs.
I can totally see where you're coming from with your points. Thanks for such a detailed comment, it was really enjoyable to read through. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Golden Casket was amazing, I really really enjoyed it. Doing a "Part 2" for this list is a great idea that I'll definitely keep in mind for the future! Cheers dude! Thanks again for taking the time to write out such a great comment
Ahh, as a huge modest mouse fan I wasn’t sure how I’d feel going into this. You really know your stuff, I feel like I’ve seen a lot of people just talk about LCW, maybe Long Drive or Moon without acknowledging anything else. This was refreshing, also Dog Paddle is the weirdest but it’s a fucking vibe heh.
Sweet, more Modest Mouse content to sink my teeth into! I've been digging their stuff a lot recently. P.S. Edit the Sad Parts and Styrofoam Boots are goated
Man! How do you not like Bury Me With It?? Top tier for me lol. I suppose I can let it slide... fun video! Agreed on most! Glad somebody else likes Dance Hall and We Were Dead as a whole. The energy on March Into the Sea cemented Modest Mouse as one of my all time favorites when I fired that album up in for the first time in 2007. Strangers was a bit rough, The Tortoise and the Tourist is the only one I really go back for these days.

You do the same shit I do when talking about songs/albums/bands you love and saying every song is your favorite when you love music as much as I do it's like picking your favorite child it's just almost impossible you say one song is your favorite then u see another song that is your all time favorite. The struggle is to real.
A different city is one of my favorite songs of all time. I haven't heard lucky tornado. Must be an added track like the instrumental version of custom concern. Jk, I know what song you were referring to. After looking at the track list of course.
Keep up with this! Great editing, camera work. Fun personality and easy on the eyes. Almost mostly agreed, you really didn't get into Satin in a Coffin?!

@@KyleReidMu they started out as a post hardcore band then movied into a more art rock/folky band very unique vocal style from Aaron. 7 amazing albums. Brother/Sister is their most popular

@@thephatjesus3032 hmm ya I’m not sure what it could be then.. Could also be a built to spill song? Their earlier albums have a similar sound to modest mouse
I used to hate Pistol because it was really weird. I mean, I loved the instrumental part, but the vocals and lyrics bothered me, and they still do a little bit. But then I found out it was about a real serial killer, and I fell in love with it.
Oh, wow I agree with soo many of your opinions. Different city is one of my favourites from M&A, love Dance hall. I do love STO as well, first album I've listened to from MM, right after it came out, but yeah always skip Wicked campaing and such. Also, Noone's first! It should be on any list, it's just so good, don't care it's not a studio album
How can you not like Satin In a Coffin?! Good News... definitely belongs in S with other 2 and Strangers To Ourselves is better than We Were Dead... That is Modest Mouse's worst album. It's saving grace is Spitting Venom. That's one of the best MM songs ever!
Ahh we’re gonna have to agree to disagree there my friend! I think We Were Dead is sooo good. I get what you’re saying about good news but there’s no way Strangers is better than We Were Dead. Haha I hope you enjoyed the video :)
if that would count, i'd put it S Tier. Lonesome Crowded West is safe at the top, but Building Nothing out of Something would be my No. 2. Then Moon...
This is great and all, but you missed a few albums. EP's are still albums. If you disagree, then you're saying that "the fruit that ate itself" doesn't exist in their discography? What about "All Night Diner"? I can't give a like for this video when you just ignore almost half their discography.
In my opinion, I think full length studio albums and eps are different. I’m not saying that fruit doesn’t exist in their discography but I am saying that it isn’t a full length studio album. I get where you’re coming from though. Thanks for checking out the video anyway
We Were Dead is half their best and most emotional songs but the second half is where it sounds like he tried too hard on the vocals front plus the instrumentals are too repetitive to accommodate for the vocals and the songs are too long.
