Omg I'm literally running a game with an umber hulk in it tomorrow, did demogorgon send you a vision or something!?!? Fr though coming from a young dm who has started playing dnd while watching you guys I have to say I absolutely love and appreciate you guys SO SO much.
An army of these guys would be extremely dangerous, especially with their ability to completely undermine any above ground (and most below ground) fortifications. A mindflayer, fiend, or wizard could do well to make a minions of these.
I totally forgot about these! I use to throw these at my players all the time in Advanced...they were much weaker and came in groups! Thanks for the memories guys!
New to dnd and this is the best podcast covering lore and “everything tabletop games”. These guys are fucking funny and entertaining and they know how to keep it real! Thanks dudes!!
I never got around to fine-tuning it, but I toyed around with the idea of an Umber Hulk totem path for a Totem Barbarian. Keep the bear resistance since they're tanky bois, have some player-icized version of the confuse move, and a limited degree of burrow speed/tremor sense. Could bounce around the magnitude and order of those features for balancing purposes, I just never got around to it. My idea was for a Warforged that was like a construction worker Baymax. He was a tool for a family of dwarves whose clan were once warriors of great renown but now are just low class miners. A kid wants their family to regain their glory so she finds some kind of holocron or something with data of their ancestors' exploits and techniques that she loads into the robot. So he's this super sweet hulking Baymax guy and then when he goes into his rage it's him loading his battle program. Also, his physical totem is a series of "tattoos" reminiscent of the Umber Hulk that are really scorch marks or brands upon his exoskeleton. And he wields a two handed maul because he used big sledgehammers like to break boulders in his days as a mining robot. And I would do this whole thing where the influx of personality and individualism from the holocron leads him to be independent but he's still struggling between emerging as his own entity and his underlying directive and drive that is basically still him just being a tool for the family. He'd have this whole thing where he's seen by the dwarves no differently than a big shovel or a hammer, and his big moment would be finally being accepted as a warrior and being in his own right. Was gonna do a kind of Handmaid's Tale naming convention where the House Underhill's robots are all named things like T3T-Offunder, being "of House Underhill", and the triumphant moment is when he is given the name "Underhill" for himself. Was also gonna hide all of this and have him give his name as "Tethreety" to the party until it was revealed that that was just him trying to humanize his "unit T3T" designation.
i usually listen on Spotify cause i can download the eps and listen when im outside doing yard work. but been following on youtube and occasionally watch an episode. got my fingies crossed for this baldurs gate giveaway! i was gonna buy it in August for its full release but getting it free would be dope too. anyways love the show you guys keep it up!
I listened to this in spotify while I was at work last week. On Friday night, my DM pulls out not one but two of these assholes, with a bunch of smaller enemies. Didn't think we were gonna make it out alive.
I love these dudes, very scary. Also fun when people gotta avert their eyes and get disadvantage. Throwing one in with a group of adds can really mess a party up.
In my greyhawk campaign I put the origins of monstrosities, aberrations, dragon born, teiflings to the twin cataclysms when the suloise and backlunish empires wiped each other out and took their knowledge with them
I first know about those creatures in BG2 at Arnise keep ^^. They were a pain in the ass because their could short of confuse my companions and make them attack me.

you can do it!
Oh I love these guys. I have a path of the beast/sverfneblin at my table right now and his transformations are based off of the umber hulk
I'm upset i missed this one. Damn you guys are freakishly prolific and worthwhile fun to listen to.

thanks for going over the umberhulk i had heard and seen it before but never bothered to look into it but thankfully you guys did the work for us.
I always loved how weird and unique D&D monsters can be, especially in the early rules. Also BG3 woooo!
I totally forgot about these! I use to throw these at my players all the time in Advanced...they were much weaker and came in groups! Thanks for the memories guys!
Hey everyone welcome to the dungeoncast, I’m Brian
And I’m hungover

Always love the outakes at the very end!

Don't worry about not having filled out the monster manual yet, you'd have to become a monster podcast to do it.
Also, I wanna BG 3.

Love the show! Putting my name in for the march to 50k contest.
The umberhulk is under appreciated I feel. Need to run more adventures with it.

Love the monster mythos episodes. The only problem is that I don’t DM enough to use all these awesome monsters!
Boys were extra punchy today, it was amazing
Great episode
I had a homebrew of an illithid umberhulk experiment. Instead of the massive pincers, they have the tentacles.

Surprised Brian didn’t do an Australian accent for umber hulks because they come from the land down umber
Demogorgon chose right by sending these 2 to inform us of all things TTRPGs
love the show, wish you could show the pictures you look at cheers
Also "I'm gonna grape you in the mouth, who wants to be graped"
WKYK

My favorite bug boys
The image of the incredible hulk grinding through the underdark is funny..
Is there link to the Dungeon Cast theme acoustic that plays during the break? It slaps
In my greyhawk campaign I put the origins of monstrosities, aberrations, dragon born, teiflings to the twin cataclysms when the suloise and backlunish empires wiped each other out and took their knowledge with them
I take UMBERage with this monster!
Love the content. The more content the better. Lol I'm hungover
This episode makes me want Koolaid.
You guys should do a History of Baldurs Gate for the upcoming game.
Ohhhhhh yeahhhhh
Giant ant lion basically
Humanoids taste like pigs do. In real life, humans are similar to pork. Hence, long pig.
wait, Will got a face tattoo?
Literally what I was thinking!
It was a leftover stick on tattoo for my son's birthday party the day before.
William your mic is low.
