  • At 499,- the Blackstar Amped 1 has little to no competition with its great set of features... but do all of those features deliver? We'll check out everything in THIS video!
    EDIT: The 9V outs are isolated but the load should exceed 500mA, so you CAN use them with digital pedals, no problem.

    The simplicity of this amp makes it the ideal pedal amp ,I’m torn between amped 1 & 2 , I like that the 1 has two more valve sims which is a plus for pedal platform , it’s a matter of which one I buy first,when faced with hard decision I buy one then the other

    I've had this for about a month and here's my experience with it. First it does need some kind of pedal in front of it. I play in a loud rock/metal band and initially I tried a Friedman BE OD in front but there was a midrange thing going on between the two that I didn't like regardless of settings. So then I tried the old school thing, cranked the gain on the UK setting and boosted with an SD1 and that works well but it doesn't quiet react like a 800 or plexi if you do this, you have to add more gain from your pedal than you normally would. The 20 watt setting sounds good but it's not loud enough to keep up with my drummer through a 2x12, which sucks because the UK setting on 20 watts with everything on 10 and boosted sounds awesome. I didn't buy this to record with, I just wanted to have something consistent to run to the soundboard at gigs because I've had too many sound guys mess up mic placement on my cab, but the built in cabs definitely need help. I ended up putting a high pass/low pass and boosted the upper mids, might have taken some bass out too but I don't recall but now it sounds good. So the rig now is the new Jeff Loomis Devil's Triad boosting the UK setting on 100 watts and I'm very happy with it.

      @gabrielstevens41 Рік тому

      Update: the 20 watt setting with everything on 10 boosted with the Devil's triad with its volume on 10 is loud enough to hang with my drummer after all.

      @@spiceybadger so I tried something different that I'm really liking. Keep in mind I play heavy rock/ thrash metal kind of music but I put a low gain pedal in between my Devil's triad OD and the Blackstar and it sounds much better. I used the low gain pedal essentially as another gain stage and backed the gain down from the amp a little bit. So it really seems to like stacked pedals in front of it

  • @Paul_Lenard_Ewing
    @Paul_Lenard_Ewing Рік тому +4

    The trouble with all these pedal amps is they have too many features spread over their price point. All anyone needs is the power in this pedal that covers any situation. One can always turn down on a type D amp as it does not effect the tone at any volume only the preamp and speaker do that. A silverface Fender sounding pre is perfect for pedals. Then you have a simple usable pro amp instead of gadget ridden toy. The Duncan is OK but it is overpriced.

    I agree with your points on the inbuilt Cab Sim, takes too long to get the sound you’re looking for. Not sure why they didn’t allow us to use our own IR's instead, as in give us the option of both built in or upload your own. My biggest criticism is how bad the recording is in windows, it has USB C but no driver so the recording experience in windows is just awful. I tried the ASIO4ALL and it’s just not a good experience, Blackstar should have provided a windows driver so the DAW recognises it and you can have the same features you get on a Mac.
    Sounds good live though, especially through a nice 2x12, but really disapointed with the lack of windows support !

    Blackstar has an issue with cabs for some reason- I have their Club 40 tube amp- sounds like crap when you first get it but, if you put a cream back 75 in it- it's a whole different amp, sounds amazing. It's too expensive to do that if you buy it new- but if you can find it for 350$ or so used (and you can)- then it's worth doing. That said- the OD and the reverb are digital- so I don't use them- I use it as a pedal platform.
    Anyway- my point is- it has emulated output on the rear, for running straight to a recording interface, headphones, an FRFR speaker, etc. and is supposed to have a cab sim installed- so you don't need a cab box. But guess what- you need a cab box, because their cab sim sucks- it's great if you stay clean and don't kick on any fx- but anything else sounds absolutely horrible. I will say though- since installing the cream back I've had lots of ppl be like "Man, that amp is amazing." It sounds great as pedal platform now. But I don't use the digital output or any of that stuff- I run it like any other tube amp. It doesn't have a solidstate preamp in it- ppl seem to think it does, but it doesn't. The preamp runs on two ECC83 tubes, the power section runs on two EL34s. It's the OD and the reverb that are solid state.

For almost the same price of the pedal you get a Fender Tube amp. The 12 or 15 watt of the amp are sufficient for a rock band with 5 players in a average sized club.

Personally I think you guys are stuck on your preconceptions of what is good and what isn’t fir guitar tone. Granted you have great gear to compare to but still. I bet they A B 1st impressions with average players who like the woofy patches. Patches is especially something Line6 gets criticized for but are figuring things out with software updates.
