George Best was everything he said, a complete player, who Gordon Banks spoke of as being better In the air than on the ground!

I think the thing that younger people don't really get but which jimmy emphasises here is the bravery of players like Best. As Jimmy says there were few stepovers or other show off nonsense. He trusted his control, speed and balance to take him around defenders and that meant the constant danger of tackles from behind ( now outlawed ). I truly believe that a sober Best would be for all practical purposes unplayable and unmarkable nowadays on snooker baize surfaces with the light ball and defenders on yellows if they sneeze.

Tavy@ george best was the greatest player in the world by miles from 1966 to 1972 and he wasnt just the greatest footballer he was also the greatest entertainer on tv at that time. And thats including comedians, magicians, the lot. But george best was above all that just for pure entertainment alone. Rip george
