I didn't think this needed to be said, but just in case: obviously most mental illness patients are not dangerous in any way. The reason Annie is, is because she's a movie villain.

@aviato287 x Maybe just get adblock...? Or pay for youtube premium? It's pretty rude and inconsiderate to complain about ads, and insult creators for providing high quality content without a paywall. Ads may be momentarily inconvenient for the viewer but they're important to the sustainability of a creator's channel. If you absolutely cannot put up with a 30 second ad every 8 or so minutes then there are plenty of options to prevent them that do not require lashing out at the creator.

She would have to have antisocial disorder or narasisic personality or even sociopath or pyhchopath to be so violent. I have bpd and it isn't an accurate dipiction. You may have outbursts of verbal anger but this character doesn't seem to have the diagnostic simptoms of bpd.

Kathy Bates is THE BEST actress! The fact the she is _so_ kind & funny irl just proves how outstanding her acting is. The fact that Annie believed she was an innocent woman hated for no reason despite the fact that she killed loads of innocent hospital patients as well as her own dad and kidnapped and held hostage the writer of the romance novels she's obsessed with to force him to write a new book speaks volumes as to how insane she is. She's like Amy from Amy's Baking Company in Kitchen Nightmares who deluded herself that she was a great chef, that God wanted her to be a chef, to her anyone who didn't like her food was out to ruin her restaurant for kicks, just weren't used to eating food that didn't come from a can and whatever other excuses she used. She fired a waitress for asking if she was sure where an order was going, said she was going to over spice a man's food just to hurt him for criticising her, had her idiot husband threaten people and so on.

Without assigning a disorder to her, I think Annie is so chemically imbalanced that she truly thinks death is a release from life. The wild swing of her moods has likely made life difficult, even miserable, for her whole existence. She may believe she's doing a favor for her victims, even the healthy infants, because to her life was misery and she was sparing them that.

The book has her bring a rat in a trap with its back broken and she squeezes it out of its misery before throwing it against the wall. Paul later assumes that she viewed all of the people in the hospital as rats unable to ask for a release from the misery they were in. Thinking to Stephen King's comment on addiction, you can see Annie as a potential solution to all this misery, yet ultimately she does caused the death in the end. I didn't know Castle Rock had a young Annie story for it. I've been meaning to watch it for a long while now.
That aside, man...Annie was so messed up! I just rewatched the movie earlier this year. As a kid watching, she legit scared me. The hobbling scene will always make me shudder and close my eyes. I knew that for the novel it was an axe, but it had to have been so much worse. I can't imagine that kind of pain. Rewatching the movie, to me, Annie was showing signs of biploar disorder (which was kind of mentioned in your video). As a kid back then....she was just the crazy lady.
Great video here! I'd actually lost track of this channel and a few months ago, watched some of your videos on the IT characters. At least now I can subscribe.

I know what you mean! If I ever hear (or read) the name, "Kathy Bates" or see her face on any movie or show, I immediately picture her standing at the foot of the bed, holding the sledgehammer up high.
As a kid, it was my first realization how people can be so "evil" without having to be bad for the sake of being bad, or the villain, just because the story needed a villain. It was the first thing that showed me that sometimes, people do evil and messed up stuff, because they think its what is "supposed" to be right, and "good" and "bad" aren't always black and white. But MAN, did she scare me badly!
No joke, I always imagined her as Pennywise's wife, when I was a kid. The 2 scariest characters I knew when I was little. Probably still the 2 scariest, IMHO! Lol

I'd say that "toxic fandom" is just a modern variant of an age-old issue: Fanaticism.
That is where the word "fan" comes from, after all. It just differs where a fanatic will anchor themselves. Be it philosophy, morality, religion, politics, or Steven Universe, fanatics pour so much of themselves into their chosen vice that they start to identify themselves as part of it, causing their perception of reality to become more and more distorted as they eject any opposition to their delusion from their lives.
It's not entirely unlike how a cult operates, except they do it to themselves.

The official Broadway Play by William Goldman, who also wrote the screenplay, describes Annie as "Far more terrifying than anything of this world and all of the others." And in one scene, I think it was the one where she broke his legs, a director advice reads "Annie smacks her mouth as if she was eating something. As if she, outside of her own mind, was able to taste his fear."

They're being continued by a corporation as part of a franchise by some guy they hired to do so. @@gretchen8100 oh geez, I'm on SSRIs right now and when I forget to take it or take it late I get fucked. Up. And I will always forget eventually, I'm a naturally forgetful person and I can't seem to get better. So I actually discussed titrating off of it this year with my therapist. I feel like I've plateaued with it and the side effects of (inevitably) fucking up the pill cycle is not worth it.

Hey CZsWorld, I'm not sure if you've done it yet, but maybe do a Horror History on the characters of Stephen King's The Dark Half? It's a brilliant book, and rather underrated, with some really amazing characters!

I remember reading a news article where a crazed fan who claimed to have a bomb broke into Stephen King's house while his wife was home. His wife ran out of the house and called the police. Then years later another fan broke into his home claiming that King stole the plot to Misery. Just a year later another fan began parking a van outside King's home claiming King had killed John Lennon then in 2003 another man started stalking him leaving notes in his mailbox and harrassing his wife while she walked their dogs. Stephen seems to have no short supply of experiences with crazy fans.

Annie Wilkes is a metaphor for Mr. King's drug and alcohol addiction. Paul is Mr. King, and this story is brilliant and timeless. With so many people hooked on prescription narcotics, the feeling of euphoria comes with a horrible price not limited to self destruction or even death.

Thank you so much for these Horror Histories! When I read books I have to read them more than once, because I can't remember everything the first time (it's not a comprehension issue, it's just that my recollection strengthens with repetition). Also when horror (or a lot of genres) get film adaptations, different details get absented. I liked horror before but now, your videos make me love horror.

To be fair, in the books and movies BPD is never mentioned once. While this may be a analysis of a character, I think that Stephen King never really intended her to have any specific personality disorders/illnesses
I think it's a bit unfair for people to diagnose a character that was never really intended to be analyzed that way. Like if you asked Stephen he'd likely argue he never intended her to have it and the symptoms are just coincidental
Though I do agree alot of media makes them out to be evil and it's sad

I used to be a nursing assistant at a hospital for 4 and a half years. One of the nursing supervisors I worked with, she was EXACTLY like Annie Wilkes!!! Her behavior, attitude, demeanor and personality, Carbon Fuckin Copy! And, she was Elvis Prsley's Number One Fan and she was very open about it, with staff and patients. She even told a patient that she was Elvis' Second Wife.
