    I just tested my virgin pure water and is 340(cold)
    While the tap water is 317.
    Now I feel very sorry for buying it.
    Thank you for uploading this video and confirming that virgin pure is just a s@#t product.

    This is interesting. However, given that this is solely based of TDS, which includes beneficial minerals such as calcium, potassium and magensium it's not reflective necessarily of 'quality' water. (Although that could be subjective) The Zero filter has clearly removed everything including those beneficial components whereas the others, we really don't know what is contributing to those readings. They could be mostly beneficial particles or micro plastics and bacteria. That said, the huge difference with the Virgin Pure is surprising and suggests it's not doing much of anything so most likely won't be grabbing myself on of those. Thanks for putting this test together.

      The minerals in the water are inorganic and therefore treated as toxins and filtered out so they are not beneficial😬 all of your minerals should be organic and taken from food

    The Brita filter will be showing higher as it's a new filter. TDS is also irrelevant when it comes to water, it's much better to focus on the taste and what it helps to reduce.

    “Anything under 200 mg/L (or ppm) is good and 100 mg/L is considered excellent. As the TDS level goes below this level (as the minerals are removed) the water has a lower pH and becomes more acidic or corrosive. ... TDS levels over 400 mg/L are considered non-potable (don't drink that stuff).” So Zero water is maybe not so good?

    Thanks for this video, was thinking about getting a Virgin Pure but now won't. What do you think about the LARQ bottle? They say it uses UV light to remove all bacteria so there's no smell, do you think it's close enough to the water?

    • @LifeWithMikeG
      @LifeWithMikeG  4 роки тому

      I've seen the LARQ bottle but can't say I've tested it enough to give a view. I know UV light for killing bacteria is controversial tho and it has to be reasonably high power to do anything substantial. The LARQ seems to be relatively low power so I'm skeptical about its capability but can't say anything bad about it given what I know. Sorry that's not more helpful!

    Just to add balance, I have 3 T7 and 2 T6 in my depot and all of them give far better results than yours, we change all the filters when required including the lamp and honestly have never had a problem and water is always clear and recently tested with a similar tool which shows levels of between 174 and 206...just maybe your one single machine is not working as it should and of course all these type of tests should be done across several machines and not just one....like I said just my personal experience.

    I'm very curious about this!
    How can the Virgin filtered water have TDS higher than the tap water, when that tap water is the water being fed through the filter system?
    Are there any fundamental differences in how the filtration processes are for filter jugs like Brita, vs filtered taps like Virgin, BIBO, Quooker?
    Thanks!

    • @LifeWithMikeG
      @LifeWithMikeG  3 роки тому +3

    • @asendedtrunks
      @asendedtrunks Рік тому +1

      @@scentuniquebytracy1256 they add polyphosphate to break limescale bonds; it's a perfectly safe to drink salt. Also the TDS being higher in the hot water is likely due to this being a cheap TDS meter that doesn't accommodate for water temperature, which if true would mean all the readings in this video are void unless the temperature was the same for every other water. Regardless TDS is useless as a measure of water quality, mineral water for example has higher TDS because it has useful healthy minerals in it.

    • @LifeWithMikeG
      @LifeWithMikeG  7 місяців тому

      @@Leesadventure No, in the comments you'll see that Virgin say the TDS is increased due to "anti-scale inhibitors" that they use to keep the machine functional. If it was adding things we potentially want - calcium etc - they'd need tablets of elements in the machine that would deplete quickly. People buy these machines to filter water and remove DS / VoC's, not add anti-scale chemicals. It's an interesting exercise and am sure you'll find the comments useful, thanks for watching 🙂

    This guy obviously has his issues with Virgin as a brand or maybe even a scorned ex employee.
    There's no way that the hot water comes out like that. The clue to this is that you mention you've just moved in. The system needs flushing out first after the transport in transit! It's is effectively like a fridge after all!
    You're very sketchy on detail but quick to pull the product down.

      Absolute rubbish. Read the comments - it had been flushed, I’ve got nothing against Virgin and am certainly not an ex employee! Virgin explain the high readings on the hot as being down to the use of “anti scaling” chemicals in the unit. If you want to come up with absolute waffle like me having something against Virgin or being an ex-employee then at least read the comments before making a really silly one!

    Good review, but one point to note is that the TDS meter is measuring water conductivity and using this as a proxy for purity.
    Water conductivity increases with water temperature a lot, so the virgin hot water is not comparable with the virgin cold water. The conclusion is probably valid though ie it doesn’t really seem to do anything much!

  • @willieleith4564

    You are testing toxic water - why. If you pour water and it’s cloudy you would reject it. If your water is coming out of a purifier cloudy then it clearly hasn’t been set up properly. You’d have been better testing water from the storm drain. I very much doubt impartiality here.

    I am surprised by this video as you are clearly wrong in your science with water testing. I am a fishkeeper of 20 years. TDS should not be used as a measure of drinking water. The process of removing dissolved solids from water is reverse osmosis (RO). I have an RO filter for my fish tank and can produce water with a TDS of 0. You are not supposed to drink water with a TDS of 0 as that means it has none of the beneficial minerals that you are supposed to find in mineral water (the clue is in the name). In fish keeping you have to re-mineralise the RO water with the right minerals before you use it. Thus taking out the bad stuff and creating the perfect conditions for the relevant species of fish.
    Your virgin pure machine has clearly not been descaled properly and you say it has had new filters but I would call virgin and get them to replace your machine.
    I am a virgin customer on the contract and have been so for many years. Also my place work has more than 20 virgin pure machines. I have never seen or experienced water as cloudy as you claim here from any of the machines I’m my office.
    As for the TDS, zero does indicate pure, mineral water should not be pure and if you was to drink only pure TDS 0 water only you would have massive deficiencies in your body. You cannot buy a virgin pure machine and not descale it regularly or use cheap filters, it will like filter stop doing it’s job. My advice, if you want good water don’t be cheap.

      Hi Dangerousdeano. As much as you have accused me of being "wrong" in my "science with water testing" I'm afraid to say, with respect, that there's actually many flaws in your comment and not actually in the video. Firstly, reverse osmosis does not remove VOC's and other chemicals, which is why it's fine to drink water which has been through the RO process. If you watch the video, I mention Dasani, who got in trouble for stating that their water was "pure". You're right in what you say, you shouldn't drink pure water. But you seem to be confusing TDS with the removal of VOC's. It's absolutely fine to drink water with a TDS of 0. No one has mentioned (including me in the video) that TDS means "pure" or "mineral". In fact the only people that mention the word "pure" is Virgin itself...
      You've also made a number of other errors in your comment... Such as descaling. Did you watch the entire video? If so then you would have seen that I'd just had it installed, the unit was brand new. Other than it being flushed by the installer (which should leave it ready to use) and then flushed by me, it has not been used and has therefore not suffered from scaling. You can even see that the hole drilled by the installer hasn't even been cleaned yet - he left the sawdust around it - so it's clearly a new install. I am fully aware that saturated filters need to be replaced, so I can assure you that this is not a case of being "cheap", as your accusation suggests. Therefore, it isn't a case of lack of maintenance, scaling or anything else... It's a simple case of a poor quality solution from Virgin.
      You also say that you have never experienced cloudy water such as that in the video. May I suggest that you search for other reviews of Virgin Pure where you'll find a number of similar cases, such as this one: ua-cam.com/video/WKAJpXGRSRM/v-deo.html
      Hope that answers some of your concerns and counters some of your inaccuracies.

    • @dangerousdeano
      @dangerousdeano 4 роки тому +2

      LiveLifeFast I will remind you of two things, I recommended that the item you have is faulty. Complaining about it on UA-cam will not get it replaced. Secondly the virgin pure water bar is actually made by Strauss. Check out their website. I’m sure if the product is as bad as you claim then Strauss will be very keen to hear from you. I am sure Virgin will replace the item but ultimate they are the box mover in this transaction, not the maker of the product.

    • @dangerousdeano
      @dangerousdeano 4 роки тому

      LiveLifeFast oh and nothing wrong with my science. If there are worrying levels of VOCs in your tap water to start with I would first contact your water provider 🤣
      You are the one measuring by TDS not me.

    • @LifeWithMikeG
      @LifeWithMikeG  4 роки тому +2

      @@dangerousdeano Nope... You "recommended" that the science was flawed and that a brand new item needed to be descaled (🤦‍♂️)... Which clearly isn't the case. It says Strauss on the front so, as much as I appreciate the clarification, I was and am fully aware of the manufacturer. I did the video to notify people about the reality of the system tho, not to complain or tell them what's wrong with their hardware. You're more than welcome to send them this video if you wish, and they're more than welcome to comment.
      The filtration system is flawed, whether you have 20 years experience of keeping fish or not, regardless of how many of them your place of work has. I don't want it replaced so my aim is not to have it replaced. You wouldn't expect more dissolved solids to be introduced to your water by a "water purification system", which is the main point, whether you agree with it or not. You are of course entirely welcome to disagree, which is why I'm happy to leave your comments up, but you've not done a great job of providing a sensible or suitable argument as to why the video's wrong or inaccurate.
      You also mentioned "cheap filters" and that zero TDS "does indicate pure", which it definitely doesn't so, as much as I appreciate your comment(s), there's just too many inaccuracies to give it any credence, unfortunately.
      So criticise the measurement of TDS or refer to your fish if you want... It makes no difference to the video or the legitimacy of measuring TDS and demonstrating that the water provided by this machine is actually considerably worse than tap water and / or almost every other filter on the market 🙂

    People, you want a water DISTILLER, not a filter or a purifier.
    Distillers are a bit harder to run, but a much much cleaner end result from the water.
    Look up the difference now.. no need to thank me later.
    Just get a distiller and enjoy clean water, and a good balance of healthy food.
    Take care people.

    • @LifeWithMikeG

      I don't think that's right tbh Ant. Distilled water doesn't have calcium, magnesium in etc. It tastes flat and isn't particularly nice - most places that use distilled water to drink add a tonne of electrolytes to it. I don't think it's a great option for domestic use.

    • @ant9969
      @ant9969 3 роки тому +4

      @@LifeWithMikeG This is the most common response I get... The lack of minerals in distilled water.
      No one judges engine oil for the way it smells.
      Engine oil is to lubricate the engine and to prolong its service life.
      We drink or imbibe water to hydrate our cells.
      There is no cleaner hydration than distilled/pure water.
      Pure water is like a vacuum, and it wants to pick up things that it comes into contact with.
      This is why solids end up dissolved into it in the first place. There is a limit to how much can be dissolved also.
      The dissolved solids in bottled and tap water are inorganic minerals, which are picked up from the journey of the water once it has finished falling as rain.
      Even rain has a side issue with it.
      The water from rain, picks up particles in the air on its way down, so the first few minutes of rain water, will not be at full purity.
      It will be at full purity if it has rained for a while, thereby taking airbourne suspended particles down to the ground.. that is why the air is so clear after the rain.
      By the same process, once on the ground, the further the water has travelled, the more solids are redissolved along the way.
      There is the natural flow of water through the surface land, including agricultural land, and urban land; picking up particles, pesticides and pollution along the way.
      After the water has made its way through the land and flows into the rivers, you have living creatures that urinate and defecate during their life cycle, then their life cycle expires, become deceased; and decompose.. all within that flow of water.
      This is why, our water which is accumulated in reservoirs; periodically has to be tested for pathogens and viruses.
      Therefore it is then treated with chemicals and chlorine, for it to deemed safe for drinking.
      That is why every now and then, you run the tap; and you can really smell the chlorine.
      The minerals we get in water are inorganic, and unusable by our bodies.
      To get our iron, we do not suck rusty nails, to get calcium, we do not eat chalk or lick boulders.
      Organic minerals, which the body does need and use, comes from food.
      That is why fruit and vegetables are so important.
      The more natural/organic you eat, which will have been treated with less or no pesticides, the better for your body.
      In your own test, the Zero water filter, which reads 4ppm, is as close to distilled water as it gets, without actually distilling it.
      Another way to purify water, other than distilling or low efficiency filtration, is reverse osmosis.. which does the same thing.. purifies the water.. removing all dissolved solids.
      The taste.. to me, it is no longer weird..
      It is actually the other way around.
      People have been used to bottled and tap water their entire lives.. so they think that is what water is supposed to taste like..
      That is all they have ever tasted, so it is weird because it is different to what they are used to.
      Water with zero dissolved solids, has zero taste.. so people are used the tastes of the varying dissolved solids.
      Have a look at some videos about distillation, and the dissolved solids that are left behind off just one distillation cycle.
      If I poured the remainder/waste of 10 distillation cycles into a bottle, bet most people would not drink it!
      Once you see the brown-ness and smell that funk (it smells like damp/dank underground railway tube).. you know what you are taking out of your body.
      I have been on my own distilled water for a year now.. only storing and drinking from glass or stainless steel also.
      No bpa.. no plastic.. I can literally taste the difference now.
      Ice cold from the fridge, is the most refreshing and hydrating liquid I have ever imbibed.
      My vision has become more vivid, my skin has become clearer.
      I even have higher concentration levels, over longer periods.
      It believe it is all down to better hydration, and less processed sugar.
      So, the whole point of your video is to show the total dissolved solids in the different types of water you are presenting.
      Thereby proving the ineffectiveness of the Virgin unPure machine!
      Pure means zer0 contaminants.
      Distillation removes dissolved solids with the highest efficiency.
      Distilled water is cleaner in every way.
      I am fully researched and have tested and trialled it myself.
      I cook with it (Pasta, Potatoes, Rice, Soup etc) I drink it straight.
      To me, there is nothing better.
      I approve of its health benefits and its taste.

    I'm a little late to the party, but this review, while it may seem shocking isn't the entire picture, and anyone that understands TDS will know this.
    A TDS meter doesn't tell you the quality of drinking water and what it contains, it only tells you the amount of Total dissolved solids present.
    They could be anything, good or bad!
    The virgin pure system removes 99.9% of chlorine (the reason I bought it), it removes microplastucs and biological material and kills any bacteria with the UV steriliser..
    It doesn't, however, remove minerals, minerals which are actually good for you, such as iron and calcium, etc.
    These minerals are what is showing up on the TDS readings,
    The only way to properly test is in a laboratory.That will give you a breakdown of the exact contents of what's in the water.
    As an example the TDS readings in mineral water is normally 300+
    As for the boiling water being murky, I have never once had this issue with mine. There is definitely something wrong with the filter in this device..
    Dont concentrate on TDS guys, it's a very vague test and doesn't show you the bigger picture.
    Humans aren't supposed to drink 100% pure water! We need the essential minerals that come with it.
    It's a bit like taking the alcohol for a pint of beer..... pointless.
