      Hope you get sorted soon. Thanks for watching and for your comment

    Modern drone cameras are amazing, you could use one to image your roof and then look at the results zooming in.
    They use them to check for cracks in the blades on wind turbines

      Great idea! Ladder and a pillow is a bit cheaper and easier but I love your idea! 🏆🤣

    Hi Matt a Keith, I would just like to point out.That nobody is actually ever mentioned that if you do not keep your campervan or your conversion on your drive or property , Ripe insurance will not even consider Covering you.
    Unfortunately, nowhere on their website or anywhere does it actually mention this until you’ve gone through the whole process of giving them all your details. That would be my only criticism of Ripe insurance. When I first look at them on line I had to do it online, to complete the process and get a quote figure I had to actually say it was kept on my drive just to see what my cover cost would be. Then had to contact them by telephone and explain that it’s kept directly outside my house with all my security efforts, but unfortunately they will not even consider giving us cover.
    Just saying hopefully this will save somebody a bit of time and effort
    , keep up the good work 👌🏻🤙🏻

      Thanks for commenting. This is not a stipulation limited to Ripe. It’s commonplace across many insurers as it’s a requirement by the underwriters. I have spoken to three owners this month who desperately all need secure storage with us as they cannot get insurance on the road. All with different underwriters and brokers. I guess the risk associated with road parking is too great.

    There’s a Great motorhome aire in Cobh, €10 per night. I’d recommend this over any camp site in the locality. Sits directly on the waterfront.

      @MotorhomeMatt  5 місяців тому

      What do you love most about this place? Why does it beat any campsite?

    • @kampenheimer
      @kampenheimer 5 місяців тому +3

      @@MotorhomeMatt Ok. It’s not a campsite per se, so if that is specifically what one needs, then it may not be suitable. Having said that, it is 25% of the cost at €10, has all facilities except electricity. There is space for about 30 vans all of which directly overlook the harbour waterfront towards Spike Island (former prison) and is adjacent to where cruise liners arrive and depart into Cork. Very picturesque, very relaxing and in the heart of Cobh - about 15mins drive from the city. On top of all that, campsites in Ireland tend to be quite expensive so this is a great alternative and has proven to be a great county council initiative. It’s not far from us so maybe I’ll do a video on it.

    As usual a very helpful insightful watch and I was particularly interested in the water section, I think it would be helpful for those that watch your podcast, me, to show pics of certain things...I have no idea where the water was gathering in that home you talked about...think you mentioned conduit?

    • @MotorhomeMatt
      @MotorhomeMatt  5 місяців тому

      Yes great suggestion thank you. Sadly we didn’t take any pictures of the motorhome. But it was on the roof from a solar panel to the gland. The box conduit like used at home on a wall was allowing and feeding water into the gland which wasn’t sealed. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      @MotorhomeMatt the reason I and probably many others would like pics us because despite how helpful you are I still wouldn't be able to locate that with a map and a compass, I'm terrible at anything like this and a picture speaks a thousand words...or so I'm told, thanks for the reply

    What figure would constitute a high water ingress reading please? We have a reading of 18 in one area that was previously over sealed last year (when it was a similar reading). This year the reading is still 18 but dealer says it’s not a problem - its only a three year old van and we have a 6 year water ingress warranty

      According to the NCC any reading between 18-25 should be investigated further. I would consider and independent assessment. Can I ask what model motorhome and where it’s this high reading? Feel free to message me if you prefer mhmp.info/askmatt

    Motorhome makers use that water ingress guarantee as their quality control department, send it out and cross their fingers that people dont keep to the terms (ie Hab check at authorised dealer) or stick on dodgy extras that they can blame that! The dealers hate doing warranty work and claim they will only deal with vans that they sold and then it takes months to get the repairs authorised! My dealer made me drive 100 miles just so they could damp check an area they had supposedly repaired previously and been highlighted by an authorised dealer/repair station. It is by far the worst retail experience i have ever seen or experience but they rely on our love of motorhoming...Rant over 😂

      Keep the soapbox! Our industry is sadly famous for poor after sales service. It has been the case for decades. There are a number trying hard to be the hero’s of change but it’s hard work for them. Part of the problem is the disparity between manufacturer and consumer. There is a huge opportunity for the manufacturer that builds a great product and genuinely engages with the customer.

    £30/night is mid range these days? No wonder caravan dealers are going bust.

      @@MotorhomeMatt We were on a fully serviced site recently and paid £35/day. They had electric meters probably for their own records, they didn't charge us separate. We were using 10kw/day which amounts to about £3/ day. You can't use to much water by design in a caravan. If water is another £2 their total expense on us was £5. They will add staff and business cost, profit, etc, but it's a long way up to reach £35.
      I would ask a site owner to break down their real costs and profit.
