I just want to say, I'm a bigger guy and things like this have always been something that I want to do in life, besides riding my quad. Watching your vids have inspired me to get down to my goal weight so that I can one day rip up the trails like you! Thank you for inspiring me to do more with my life! You're a true inspiration!
TheeAngel How's the weight loss going? If you haven't already, you should start cycling. It's fun and it'll help you lose weight, I've been doing the same.
Bro if your really heavy go on carnivore diet for 2 months and then switch to keto . I was able to lose a lot of weight and you are not hungry all the time as long as you make it through the first 2 or 3 weeks without carbs . After that you are golden
i can't believe I rode this jump line on my old Devinci Seguara xs frame back in like 09/2010.... definitely wasn't built for this kind of riding at all, but it sent the jumps just fine :) and stayed upright on two wheels
If there was ever a video to confirm its not about the bike it's the rider then this is definitely it. I can't believe you went to whistler without s full face
His friend said what he needed to say, Phil did what he was okay with it's all good. His friend did the right thing with those recommendations. Nobody wants to see a friend splattered without the right gear.
"Who are you? ...What's your name again?"....hahaha. They must not be one of the 131K. I can appreciate you keeping the language filtered/edited; my boys like watching too.
It's so awesome to see Phil riding with people of his skill level so he doesn't have to slow down or anything. His friend and he were sending with no regard!
Dude! You're making me want to get into the gravity riding. That may be a little crazy at 52 years old. But what the hell? You only live once, right? Definitely looking at a trail bike for the next addition to the stable. Keep up the great vids.
54 and took the dive. Got an Evil The Following. Lots of choices in that segment now. Very rideable on the XC trails where I live. Suffers against the Giant Anthem on climbing, but only slightly. Probably more of an issue with the motor than anything else. But everywhere else it's just as good and much better in the rough and pointing down. Got the full face. Knee/Elbow pads on their way. Not looking to get near as rad as these guys, but rad for me anyway. Angel Fire bike park net weekend!
You tend not to see older people doing it is cos you can only do it for a few years, by then it's either wrecked your body so much you have injuries every 5 mins or, you have a really serious accident that nearly kills you, for me it was both. I had a fantastic 6 or so years, I was young, go for it while you still can, wear tonns of gear!
Its all those braking bumps year after year that caught up to me resulting in nasty thumb base arthritis in both thumbs. Ill never forget my last day at Whistler when just one more run and got off the lift and couldn't even grip the bar standing still it hurt so bad. Major depression set in as I lost the love of my life, downhill at Whistler and i only lived 4 hours away in WA state so every weekend was a Whistler weekend, my heart has been crushed. Im back on motorcycles now both on and offroad, the weight of the bike smooths out the type of high frequency vibration like a you feel on a mtb bike over heavy braking bumps so i can ride with minimal pain. I will always miss mountain bikes, love this video and seeing enduro bikes shredding Whistler knar.
Love the videos Phil. Thanks to you I'm back on a bike. Just turned 61 and retired from motocross a couple years ago "but I can't seem to calm down" so I bought a Canyon Torque CF 9. Took my 4th ride last night and was hucking some 20 foot drops already. God I missed this shit. Hope to see ya on the trails. I will be doing some Seven Springs and Snow Shoe this summer.
Any friendly faces out there in the biking community, I need some advice. I was up at Mohonk Mountain House, NY during the last few days of the summer--while there I tried out the mountain trails with a friend; everything was going great until I sped a good 20-30 miles around a bend, blind, when I hit a massive tree that had fallen over the path, buckling my front tire and sending me over the handlebars into gravel. Keep in mind, this was all at 30 or so degrees downhill, and so I fell a pretty decent distance before hitting the ground. I ended up with a sprained wrist, a concussion and minor amnesia, and had to ride one-handed, severely in pain from numerous bleeding cuts and scrapes, miles back up all the hills we had just previously been flying down. My friend helped me through this process, of course, but the memory still hasn't left me. My question is, how do I resume downhill biking as a passion and hobby when in constant fear that the slightest mishap will send me sprawling into a tree, or a rock, or give me another concussion? Thank you to anyone for any comments or suggestions. Much love to Phil as well
I would recomend that you should never ride a trail blind. Follow someone that has ridden there before. As for getting your confidence back up on your bike again i would say take things easy after you recovered. Mountain biking is great sport and it would be a shame if you gave it up because of a crash.
You didn't break anything, go and ride until you do, when you eventually break something, your even more eager to get back up, that's how it goes mate.
Amazing bro ! Like other people said the fact you where on a all mtn bike and not a dh bike mad props bro. Love your style !! Mad love and definitely a subscriber
Sweet vid man, keep up the good work. Can you do some videos on the pump track again when you finish school if it isn't too much of an inconvenience cos I loved those videos
Awesome pair of vids. I liked that it covered a variety of trails, both machine groomed with big features and gnarly single track. Looks like you were pushed to your limit on both, but came out good, except for that crash on the side of the skinny's - that looked like you just got distracted for a second, nice to see it didn't throw your game.
Phil, what's the process like when shipping yr bike somewhere ? What do you, how much do you take apart. Cost more or less... could u make a video or just respond back on here explaining the details.
Breaking it down usually involves removing pedals, wheels and handlebars. By far the easiest way to do it if you plan on traveling more than just once is to buy an EVOC travel bag. Makes it super quick and easy. Otherwise, for a one off trip, you can use some foam pipe insulation from Home Depot and fit it into a cardboard bike box. Just make sure you block your calipers after removing the wheels and I also prefer to remove my chain and unbolt the rear derailleur and zip tie it out of the way. Just check each airline. Costs vary wildly. Canadian specific airlines are significantly cheaper if going into Canda, say to Whistler.
For some reason I'm seeing this for the first time. I subscribed to you under a different account, but I've been watching you for a while. Let me just say this, first awesome video and that trail looks intense. No way am I at a point where I can do that. Second, I'm also a photographer. And I can tell you, $25.00 for a digital download is a lot of money. I charge exactly half that for just one download. $12.50 seems to be a reasonable price. For $25.00 I would expect to get several shots. But if this works for this particular photographer, then more power to him. -Brian
Damn Phil you are a badass hitting crabapple hits on a trail bike without a full face. Definitely looks way smaller on video. Those things are massive in person!
You guys truly are unreel man going at the speeds that you do is crazy. This is crazier than sky diving I'll jump out of planes but this on another level.
Phil, you've got balls to do Crabapple on a trail bike no full face, man! Just doing the Blue trails jumps on a full DH rig with my full face is enough to scare me. ;)
I have been beginning to think that maybe I was over obsessive keeping my bicycle clean. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person that keeps an eye on cleanliness. But when you think about it these bicycles are a huge investment and it is the smart thing to do!
Hey Phil, great video and incredible shredding on those gnarly trails :D how did the cush core perform on the breaking bumps? Only hearing the bumps on the video gave me the phantom feeling of heckling over them and of hand pain of course 😅
Soo many things to comment on lol. "Nice little roller here"... vertical roll! "Take a look at it first from the side then put on a full face".... "Can I get a tow in?" And you were right dude this was slightly better than the last video but this was probably because you did A-line and yep you heard the voice of your people.. We wanted A-Line with Phil.
Wow! I could only imagine what you could do with DH Rig and a Full Face helmet. Awesome segment. Sad to see you leave Whistler. Purchased a set of Nobl wheels shortly after I saw one of your vids. Cheers
I live slightly vicariously through your adventures then I want to go ride my own bike all day. Can't wait to fix her up tomorrow. Come on usps, I need ma tools. Those trails are insane man!

Haha, Phil should have prefaced his "tow me in" comment with "Thanks, Karen"
Who needs a full face when you got such a moustache to protect you.
Who needs a face when you don't have a full face😂
Thats not even a moustache at that point lol

When someone with a mustache like that falls the ground apologizes
Dang Phil, you were flying down those trails! In a half lid and a trail bike no less. Really enjoyed the video and the riding. Cheers!

It's really astonishing what can be ridden on a trail bike these days. Wasn't long ago that many of those trails were DH bike only for mortals.
