I now live in the States, but I am proud to be German. My homeland is a beautiful country, rich in history. Produced many outstanding scientists and we have less crime then America. I never was one nor would I have been one had I lived then. I live in Texas. Usually the people in Texas have treated me well and with respect. She was never a supporter of Hitler's regime. She despised that man. My mother smuggled boiled potatoes when she had some extra to the polish prisoners who had to clean out a man made river in front of her house. She almost got caught. Thank god she got away with a light wound. My mother was never a Nazi either and for some idiots to call me that in Texas was very hurtful. The just didn't know how much that hurt me, knowing what my mother had endured. Racists people came to our business, and just because I'm German and had very blue eyes, the thought I understood their hatred for black people. I never hated anyone. They're simply irrelevant verses to the anthem as they reflected the previous image and visions of Germany. The 1st was created during the Era of the North German Confederation by a person who was writing it because he desired Prussia to unite with the Southern German States, which was done in 1871. The German Empire used this occasionally because it sparked pride during a time when Germany needed it most. Not to display any supremacist characteristics. It was often used alongside Heil der im Siegerkranz The Weimar Republic used the full anthem as well throughout its existence. Yes the Nazis USED it, but that doesn't mean it carried Racial Supremacy characters. If you want to know what a Nazi anthem is, try searching for Horst Wessel Lied used by the National Socialist German Worker's Party and the Sturmabteilung, or an SS Anthem. The quality thing got derailed when Nixon took the world of the gold standart. It lastet a little over a decade and the best Mercedes W123 was built (planned in the early 70s), and since it went downhill for a higher and higher frequency in consume. It's not in the official National Anthem (only the 3rd stanza is) but it historically was crying for a unified Germany so it's not as bad as you're thinking tho German Nationalism got out of hand in the 20th century (all of Europe did tbh)

At Christmas is a big time for my mom's family: the traditional German Christmas! It's the only time of the year that we speak German on the day before christmas eve. This hasn't been the German National anthem since WWII ended. Only the third stanza is used as the official anthem since then. This one is outdated and considered to be associated with the Nazi regime.

There was a time when “Made in Germany” was equal to quality. I miss those times.
The quality thing got derailed when Nixon took the world of the gold standart. It lastet a little over a decade and the best Mercedes W123 was built (planned in the early 70s), and since it went downhill for a higher and higher frequency in consume. Which means more crappy shit has to be produced to keep fresh consume and fresh debt going. A total mess we are up to, not only regarding quality, but regarding currencies, solvency and stability too.
@@paul8158 I prefer the W124. I think it's a better car on balance, not quite as reliable as the W123, but still very well built and a true example of proper German engineering.

@@paul8158 Still, I think we've got a while until they're gone. W123 and W124 are built to last. I've heard stories of people achieving 2 million km in them, especially the diesel models. Supposedly with only regular maintenance and wear and tear parts replaced only.
Mental people like us car enthusiasts will keep them running a few decades longer too.
And the W124 isn't that bad for rust, at least I've been told. That award goes to the W210, which was the first Mercedes with a body and chassis that were entirely water soluble.
