  • As development boomed in Homestead and Florida City over the years, so-called 'cut through communities' like Cutler Bay and Palmetto Bay have become caught in the congested crosshairs of growth

That busway is a joke and the fact that we’ve been paying as MDC residents a half penny tax since 1986 for the rail is just disgraceful. We should get our money back.

All of that is way behind the Eight Ball. Development is out of control and a lot of that traffic is coming from south of Homestead and Florida city. My kitchen view of the turnpike between exits 6 and 5 is non stop day or night and no matter the road from Old Cutler(starting on the back died Of HARB), Turnpike, US 1 even the improved Krohne Ave is a nightmare commute. Trolleys and ride share are not solutions a long as they ride on the same streets and roads, but buses will not get most BMW, Mercedes and Tesla Owners of their wheeled estates to share the bus either. The programmed six lane expansion of the Turnpike north of me to a point south of me is going to make everything worse before it makes any positive impact if at all by the time it is done. All of this coupled with the property prices and in general the cost of living is going to force people away. The Cutler Ridge high rise concept is a start but it has to be repeated hundreds of times every where along with a reduction of the single family suburbanite sprawl to make a dent otherwise it is going to be: “Bye Bye South Florida “.

They should charge drivers for each mile driven. Like maybe tax them $200 a week if you have a car and you get to drive 50 miles within that week, every mile over is $5 per mile. Could generate a lot of money for government and reduce carbon and congestion. Force people to walk or use bikes or bus.

It’s not the commuters fault that most well paying jobs are outside of the southern area.

@@he6089 global warming and road congestion could both be solved if restrictions were placed so as to force people to use less invasive modes of transportation like Bus, Bikes and Walking. We need board sweeping laws and tax structure that mold our society into a more efficient system.

That is ridiculous. Most of the people that made Miami what it is today and most of the people that currently make it worth living in could not afford anything close to that. That would make The Magic City only magic for rich a-holes that don’t need to drive in the road traffic any way. That would be punitive for the middle class and a privilege for the wealthy. Very classist of you. But you are not alone, it is being tried in London and New York as we speak. Then there is the point of what to do with the money that it would generate. That money can not serve to improve the road system that has no way to grow because of lack of space without a 2 dimensional system becoming 3 dimensional or multitiered having surface, elevated, and multimodal to boot. What it can not become is exclusive for whom can afford it at the expense of those that need to work to move the economy along.

@@rafaelvelez1253 a strong economy within a Capitalist system results in greater increase in climate change, we can not sacrifice earth for luxury, we need sweeping social programs that force the working class into adopt more environmentally friendly modes of transportation and living style. Programs like the Greene New Deal help foster in a new age of governance thru social constructs aimed to bring harmony and balance with a fundamental transformation of the United States. .
