@@vinterbjork4128 To be fair, I put on a dot of white, followed by the wash/speed/express paint. The tip has enough structure to show a decent spread of saturation. Painting the whole lid seems extra.
Iv got 1.0 and love em with having nerve damage I can't sit and paint for hours...these paints have made painting fun again,,,can't wait to get my paws on 2.0
I typically just put a bit of the paint on the tip of the cap, it's recessed enough to not be rubbed off and I usually have a top down look so it helps pick out the color I want
I use Ash grey primer, Brainmatter beige zenithal and white drybrush. I find the black just too dark. The white dry brush doesn't really show on top because the beige is so light anyway, BUT on the grey areas it looks good. The finished product looks awesome! lighter undercoat colors really make speedpaints POP!
The benefit of sticking to just one coat for each colour is that you now know which ones aren't as pigmented and may need a few extra coats vs which ones are possibly too pigmented and will need thinning.
this is the best review of these new speedpaints I've seen, due to actually showing us each paint and time to inspect the colours at different angles. great video as usual!
I'm right there with you on greens for Orks. I prefer some sort of olive green for my boyz, started painting their skin with Greenstuffworld's Acid Green dip and it looks great. Funny enough AP's Orc Skin gets a good amount of use from me, not for my Orks but for my Salamanders.
Is the bottle stabilizer you use for the speed paints 3d printed? I have a very similar design for GW pots, but not for Army Painter and was wanting to print some if you knew where I could get the file. Thanks!
brilliant idea to apply it to the tops. I wish army painter would actually sell them like that, when buying them you would immediately see what you get.
This is exactly what I did with my speedpaint bottles, having the lids the exact colour it will look on the model is such a quality of life improvement for my painting.
Good stuff. I'll probably use the same technique when my pre-order arrives. On the fence on getting the metallic set too, simply because you already get a lot of effect with using speed paints on top of a silver metallic undercoat
Do the 2.0 speed paints have a more consistent finish when drying? My 1.0 Hive Dweller Purple swarm dries a bit glossy compared to other my other speed paints...
Great video mate, sadly I went for speedpaint 1.0 and I spent money I didn't really have at the time. This means I am a bit biased towards these. One day I may go for the mettalics, but I have now got into GSW dipping inks and they do what I want.
Thanks for the video Jon, you keep me motivated to keep crafting and painting. Are you using "name brand" gray and white to drybush or plain cheap acrylics?
Do we know if the old colors are being retired/replace or are these 50 just being added onto them? There's a couple older colors that if that is the case I might have to stock up on
Damn that lid painting is a great idea, wish these companies would just do the lids as the colors... I created a paint holder out of pvc, and I thought about painting each of colors on each piece.
They've got a even bigger box set for preorder. It's got 79 colours, then 10 metallics and 1 medium, but it's $379. That's pretty pricey, and comes out the end of may.
So with these new speedpaints I wonder how they do going over metalics. I use metalic paint on spell/environment effects and have used speedpaint to tint them. (I also use something like slapchop but have a extra step using fairydust metalic or silver drybrushed sparingly to create lit up areas on miniatures. )
So are those squares to show the shades it can make alone or are they for how they mix with the color right next to or over each other? Should you make a color wheel poster to hang some where and show to all your followers?
@@MiniatureHobbyist I've also got a thought about what color combo I'd like to see. A red that speaks to you and is solid with a purple that is only a glaze over it, so when the model is moved the shadows look differently than normal. Think it is doable?
personally, I'm not a fad of transparent paints over a black primer, unlike regular paints, which should be muted over black, but still visible. I prefer a medium shade similar to the color going over it in the shadows, and a lighter shade in the highlights then using the speedpaints almost like a wash in "regular" painting.
Thats a great idea there is in may a 399$ us price 78 colours the full line of metallics a giant medium bottle so 90 speedpaints set eeek but i want it lol!
man im so freaking frustrated that I spent $100 just last year on speed paints 1.0. and apparently weren't ready to be released so the next year 2.0. and now I feel bad about this. feels bad. I get progress and all that, but thats really soon.
Hmm just looking at them, many of the colours feel redundant. Like the blues for example. Next to each other the difference in hue is sometimes not noticeable. I maybe pick one up or two when they release but definitely not getting the whole set.
I get a faint suspicion that you didn't shake your colors before painting you need a Vortex Mixer if you had had one, you would have had a completely different result now you have mostly painted with thinning agent as most of the pigment is in the boat... with a Vortex Mixer you sometimes need to pour Speepaints in a mixing bowl, and thin them and with Vortex Mixer, Speepaints and white base color its a completely unnecessary step basis paint black and dry brushing
i like the range but the box at about £160 .. i think is a bit much to buy in one go .. if they could possibly split the box into 3 at a cheaper price .. then you could buy them in parts at a time etc ?? :-)
I haven't found the mega set 2.0 yet. But was looking at the 24 paint set, which retails around £70 and I think the metallics you can buy as a set £23 for 8. Or a starter set for around £30 for 10 paints. I've totally got into slapchop recently and am looking at getting away from GW paints after all these years. So have been looking into various brands.
I don't play any of these games, I don't paint miniatures, but I like your channel and your builds. Please move on from "slapchop" and also get a new name for it. Just my opinion and I'm just one person. Just my opinion. Love the Blood Bowl Stadium build.
@@MiniatureHobbyist Can't wait. It really looks awesome. Your chessboard was stellar too. Even the old "predator diorama" you did was really cool. I know you're happy to find a painting style that makes you enjoy painting and that's awesome and yes, your minis look amazing doing it. Take care.
Is priming white a hard and fast rule...or can one use zenathal and then speed paints....as I've had horrible luck with these.. but I'm sure I'm messing up somewhere.. lol

Love all of the content! Happy to hear you're enjoying all of the new colours!
Great idea to test it on the lids! Really easy the pick the colours when they are on the shelf later, and you will know the exact result.
Doesn't everyone do that with all their paints?
I’ve done it with a dot of regular paint, but never undercoated the whole lid and then painted it.
@@vinterbjork4128 To be fair, I put on a dot of white, followed by the wash/speed/express paint. The tip has enough structure to show a decent spread of saturation. Painting the whole lid seems extra.
Really like the idea, gona do it on my paints!
Yeah it really has worked out well being able to see how each paint covers te gre/white drybrush, I cant wait to start using them now 🙂
Those metallics look much better than I was expecting. Really nice coverage. Makes me want these even more.
The metallics realy do cover well better than the normal ones I have lol 🙂

Yeah thats great for normal paint but it wouldnt show me how the paint looks on top of grey/white dry brushing, cheers for watching 🙂

Great video and great idea to paint the caps! Slap Chop + speed paints is my favorite way to paint!
I love slapchop and using the lids too. Looks great!
Such a great idea, kudos to who ever came up with it.
Yup I hope they see this video as it was a great idea 🙂

This is just brilliant! I'll be taking on this project on the first wave today!
Painting the lids exactly as you'd paint a mini.. brilliant!

That lid idea was genius
I'm really looking forward to the new speed paints. My star Wars Legion Models will be very happy with them
Do you happen to have the stl for the bottle holder! I'm a nightmare for knocking them over!
Using the lids was a revelation. Was considering buying those cheap Chinese toy soldiers to try them out. Much appreciated.
Yeah Im so glad someone suggested it, big time saver 🙂
Great idea to paint the lids
Yeah the bottles look great on my paint stand and being able to see the colours easily is awesome 🙂

Do the 2.0 speed paints have a more consistent finish when drying? My 1.0 Hive Dweller Purple swarm dries a bit glossy compared to other my other speed paints...
Wow Warrior Skin looks to be a game changer. Great looking color.
There certainly are some colours I will be using lots 🙂
This is mind blowing. Awesome idea

The original colours are staying - all 24. There's 66 new colours incoming, making a total of 90 Speedpaints 🎨
My local game shop printed jetpack and did all gw contrast, it help a lot to chose colors
Thank you,
Your video help me to buy speedpaint 2.0 to paint Necrons and Tyranids

@@MiniatureHobbyist i can't find this ...
Could you tell me what type of grey & white paint you are using? Doesn't look like a normal bottle.
Its cheap kids poster paints, I just put them in the small bottles for ease of use 🙂
@Miniature Hobbyist I had no idea that would work, definitely going to save some money there. Thanks for the info 😊.
Noob here. It feels like the white just covers up the gray? is this not the case?
Excellent idea
Cheers 🙂
have you tested if they reactivate?
Great idea how long did it take you to do them all?
Very useful
Nice. By 40k lore older ork boyz (the nobz) grow darker as they age and Algae Green seems a nice, contrasting paint color for them.

Green iz best
can wait to get the new paints

WAAAAAGH!!!
The black chipped of quite a bit... 😞
The paint got stuck on the bottle I painted it on and I took it off to soon so the paint ripped away 🙂

yes you can use grey or white or Black primer with heavy slapchop or zenital. But beware the outcome does vary depending on the undercoat.
