    Ive got the GRX810 2X10 on my new bike,love it,love the brake hoods they are a great place to hang on and go fast...I stuck a 11/40 XT Cassette on mine and that is the bomb. Bolts right up and no problem. 11 speed is nice,brakes are perfect.

    Late to the game, and not low enough gearing. On a fully loaded touring gravel bike, 31-34 is not low enough. Many who need lower gearing have already found solutions from the aftermarket. On my touring/do it all bike, I use absoluteblack 46/30 up front on a Shimano crank and 11-42 Shimano cassette with an XT 11 speed RD and Wolftooth Tanpan. Dura Ace 11 speed brifters. Works superbly.

    Yes we need it, i got the 600 and its amazing, clutch mech is must have on gravel. Gear ratios are perfect on gravel / trails, but on tarmac sometimes i run out of gears, rarely tho. Its also nice that these have "3 positions" on 2x front shifters. 1 for big ring, and 2 for small. The extra is that if you have small ring on front and chain crossed to also small on rear, it wont scrub against shifter 👍 theres a fine term for this, just cant remember it now.

      The feature is called "trimming". You are "trimming" the FD position. I have it on my old 9spd Tiagra road bike. I also have gear indicators, and I can see the needle move slightly when I trim. GRX does NOT have any option for gear indicators, which annoys the heck out of me.

    Swapped back to ultegra cx/rx & not looking back.
    Apart from keeping the existing lineup all they needed to do was add a 1x specific long cage derailleur of the ultegra rx.
    GRX is more of a marketing ploy to generate income then anything else tbh.
    There's tons of 1x chainrings available for shimano ranging from cx/gravel from wolftooth to the monster 56+ from stronglight & aerocoach.

    There are a great many excellent gravel trails here in America due to the rails to trails charity. Gravel biked seem to have brought cycling back full circle. In the 50's you just had one type of bicycle that could basically go anywhere. They then specialized into road bikes and mountain bikes. They now seem to be coming back around now to being fun "go anywhere" type bikes. Tires got extra skinny and extra fat on bikes now they are back to being somewhere in the middle. This comes with all the technological advancement that developed over the years with cycling though. I am sticking with my 9x3 gears though, I hope that will eventually come back around too.;p

      Simply train more, I have a compact and a 11/28 cassette. I live in the alps, conquering a mountain is just the best feeling, but olny if it repays the hard work done... Seriously, a compact with 11-32 you can go on a 9-10% climb without too much training

    Moving the chainline out is not a great idea. It will make the noise for 1x in the easiest gear louder since the distance is now greater.

    • @HOllyBOni
      @HOllyBOni 5 років тому

      As far as I know they only moved the chainline out on 2x stuff to make more room for the rear tyre because of the FD. They list the chain line on the 1x stuff at 50.1mm which is not really far off from the 49mm that SRAM uses on 1x road groups and/or non boost stuff.

    • @jonathanzappala
      @jonathanzappala 5 років тому

      Boni Hollóssy I’ve heard someone say (maybe it was this video I watched a few) the chainrings go on the same crankset so you can swap between 1x and 2x. That would mean they both have the same chainline.

    • @HOllyBOni
      @HOllyBOni 5 років тому

      @@jonathanzappala Not necessarily. For example with SRAM the 1x chainrings come in different offsets, while the cranks are the same. Both boost and non boost bikes use the same cranks, but the boost chainrings have a 3mm offset, while the standard chainrings have a 6mm offset. So different chainline, same crank. Aftermarket companies like Wolftooth also use offset chainrings so you get the correct chainline when you convert a 2x crank to 1x for example.

    In gcn they mentioned something about extra buttons on shifters to control your lights, or head unit or smth. I would like that for any road shifters. Last autumn I bought a head light that has the remote button with a wire. And then I realized how good it is to have it. Unfortunately my light only had one button to change brightness. But I really would need hi beam and low beam, when riding on road. But for that I still had to let go handlebar and find the button in dark. And on snowy, icy road it was difficult to do.. Keep eyes on road and then search the button with other hand to switch the low beam.. So I sometime just kept it on hi and adjusted the brightness, hoping that it won't dazzle if the lumens are low.

    The GRX-810 is junk. First off, it will randomly jam the cable and stop shifting to most gears. The issue is resolvable, but it will likely take a while to infer the cause of the issue. Furthermore, the front brake stopped working 4 months and less than a thousand km from purchase. Bleeding worked for one brake but at the cost of a stripped bleed port thread in the lever base. The port screw won't ingage. The other one does not work, bleed all I want.

      How exactly does a MTB entire drivetrain work on a cx or gravel? 10/11 speed MTB rear derailleurs are not compatible with road shifters. If you want to use large cassettes with road rear derailleurs, you have to improvise with those mech hanger extenders, which are a bodge. MTB chainrings don't work on road cranksets, while MTB cranksets are not fully compatible with road/cx/gravel frames because of their significantly higher chainline, meaning the chainrings will be too far out, while road front derailleurs will struggle shifting on the large ring.
      What's really important with this groupset are the rear derailleurs that have a MTB-like capacity and work with almost the entire range of current road STI shifters (even Tiagra 4700) and the 48/31 and 46/30 cranksets with chainlines that are appropriate for road/cx/gravel bikes. The new STI shifters and brakes are more of a gimmick compared to the current road offerings, while the new front derailleurs are simply adapted for smaller chainrings.
