Merle is in his comfort zone on a show like this it seems..Great stuff.. Boy that Connie Smith had a mouthful with that Louisiana Man song...geepers..lots of words..
+Hagfan789 I think it's because it's recorded and he knew if he flubbed something they would redo it.. but Merle was so damned good they probably never had to do more than 1 or 2 retakes on anything.
Two great performances from two bright stars. I've followed Merle for years and always liked his style and his music. Connie I was aware of from her early days but I never saw her singing live till i saw this clip- what a fantastic live singer she is! Truly outstanding. Johnny Gimble too, know him well.. well only from reading his name on liner notes for years of course , Just always knew he was a top fiddle player. Great to see him for real for once! What a fantastic show this was. Pure country magic. Many thanks.
I'm an old man now, I'm alone living in sw FL. I set and watch the shows like this one. I was a decent singer/ entertainer back up east. I played music with ,or knew many of the very people I see on this show, in closing conny. I was provided to work with her 3 or 4 times. Talk about our country music taking us back.... I sat her and cryed like a baby, when dolly sang the song she wrote for porter the nite she said she was leaving to go on her own. I remember it like it was yesterday. ," Zeke Elliott Thomas "
Using what Bonnie says this must have been a 1974 recording.. It's 2015 & Connie is still very pretty with a great voice after several kids and a few marriages. Terrific.
@@soundguy5813 Yeah, and Burton is no Roy Nichols on his best day! Jim's a one trick pony with the chicken pickin' he didn't invent by the way. Nichols could cover a helluva lot of ground musically from Jazz to Blue to hard core western swing AND that Bakersfield sound that HE helped create.
She is so beautiful singing about her “baby on her mind”, and that was actually true. She was very pregnant at the time f this show. You can tell her belly and her glow.
I NEVER WAS INTO MERLE, ALTHOUGH HE COULD OBVIOUSLY SING. BUT THIS SONG AND THE BRILLIANT ORCHESTRATION KINDA WON ME OVER.🌟🌟🌟🌟 (HOW ODD THAT WHEN MERLE WAS ASKED WHAT HIS MOTHER'S NAME IS, HE REPLIED:"MY MOMMA?"😩🤔🤐😟😖)
Hi, I'm looking for the song Connie sang a song on the Marty Stuart show. Guest was John Anderson. I don't remember the name of the song. Do you have the show to upload?
Hag says, "We're gonna do 'Holding Things Together' - a song about Alice M___" WHO? (Mangee? Mangie?) Anyone know this story? I knew Merle & Bonnie, Norm and Roy, Tiny, Biff & Mark and Don AND Johnny Gimble (as well as a lot of other Strangers bandmembers for many years and never heard this one.
Well now Merle you can’t get by with 2 kids and a working wife. We have become a country of working poor, and I’m not bringing politics into this. Both parties are horrible, neither have the best interest of the working middle class.
Two of Country's very best singers! The junk being pushed today is NOT Country Music.
Hard to believe this era will have such a rememberd and revered legend 30+ years from now. Imagine the kids looking back in 2060 at Thomas Rhett lol
When country was country!! Merle, Bonnie and Connie, three of the best!
Merle was the best rip merle
yes he was the very best ,but there are so many bests out ther
Connie ,my opinion was just dam great ,I just don't know what to her recognition, she's awsome

I was fortunate to see Merle years ago and he put on a great show!
You don't find music like this anymore Connie smith is awesome and of course the other shows also

One of the best videos ever! Think my favorite part was the end with Merle singing and Bonnie Owens and Connie Smith on backup vocals.
Connie and Bonnie together! both great, underrated!
Connie is the best singer ever.
Back when country artists had talent. The crap they sing today has the same tune with different words.
This Is Real Country...
This is a great video! Thanks for posting. Merle Haggard was a great artist. They don't make them like him anymore.
this is the first time I ever heard connie sing this with merle plating the fiddle
Hag one of the greatest ever!. He could dish out the best at any time
You
Roy Nichols wow, super guitar lick or what!. That's why Merle had him in his band for many years as The Strangers

Back when pop country was damn good
I’ve watched this 100 times. 2 of my all time favorites, Connie and Meryl. I just wished they’d done more together in those years.
Thanks for putting this on. Two of my favourite country singers. Love it!
Geoffrey Parker

Thx I grew up with pop goes to country
What a voice so deep and so effordless and should I mention sexy?????!!!!!!!
Have they done a movie about his life, they should.

(HOW ODD THAT WHEN
MERLE WAS ASKED WHAT HIS MOTHER'S NAME IS,

Milton Moore. He ask my momma making sure HE IS THE ONE BEING ASK
Ain't that just awesome!
Man, Merle can sing, and Connie, is she purty or what?
❤❤❤
Mary Sarha from the voice landed me here somehow!,,,
Oh, who was it that imitated all the good singers? He did a great Merle....
OH IT WAS MERLE!
MERLE WAS HOT, BAD BOY LOOKING.
I want to hear John Anderson
Miss Connie, will you come up and visit us up here in Machiasport?....I sing good, well not as good as Marty
Hi, I'm looking for the song Connie sang a song on the Marty Stuart show. Guest was John Anderson. I don't remember the name of the song. Do you have the show to upload?
After some research it was called "You Crossed My Mind a Thousand Times Today" do you have that clip?
Wonder if this was when she met Marty Stuart?
"The Hag"
Is the guitar very small or is he 5 ft tall?
He is a pretty tall guy so it's just him.
That's Tiny Moore playing an electric mandolin.
Merle's playing a small Martin guitar here and he was 5ft 7 inches. I know because I knew him and I have worn his clothes.
where the ear plug to tell then the words of the song pure country they new the words skill not this crap you hear today
A song about Alice and Angie!!
@@bradfordsmith2897 Alice WHO? He says "Alice Mangee" or "Mangie" or something like that - it's hard to understand.

Holding things together is about Alice his ex and little girl Angie
Ex wife Alice and little girl named Angie in holding things together
Is Connie pregnant?
Wouldn't have been surprising. She has five children.
Yes
