Your plan is ingenious. Absolutely incredible. If I still was living in a single family home I would copy your endeavors. I am sure that you indicated to the app that the upstairs one was in the attic. That was your lower level one will announce (God forbid) a fire in the attic. Happens more than people realize. Beautiful use of Nest. Thanks again for the Idea.
Thank you! We have an old fashioned screaming alarm and I can't take the noise anymore; I get panic attacks. At least this gives me a chance to have a working alarm and shut off a false alarm quickly. Very clear video.
You may want to disable path lighting for the one in the attic to save battery since you won't be needing it. Nice "save" on cancelling the test! I was thinking at first why install in the attic as you won't hear it, but they will be connected to each other and announce together the location of the smoke/fire or CO.
Thank you. My old detector had odd holes and I can't flush securely all 4 screws, so if you go right up to mine, it looks a little janky. I feel like it'll stay up there however wish I could have a clean install instead of what I have, and removing old plate reveals unpainted drywall. Sigh.... May have to hire pro to make it look cleaner.
Ronald Orosz thanks for watching I found out about that from Adam corrloa podcast yes it was diy it didn’t make a huge difference in my little townhouse just a little I could have gone closer to the top maybe not sure I would do it again
Juan Ramos thanks for watching not sure of your layout I would think 1 is probably enough you could always get a regular one if you have a wired layout to play it safe
I want to change the batteries in my Gen 2 Nest Protect (hard wired) and can't seem to remove it from the plate which is mounted to the ceiling. I've tried everything (turned it both directions, given it a hard tug from different positions…watched every video on installing them…) Am I just not using enough force?
If I have 3 wired ones in my apartment but want Battery Powered couldn't I just cap the wires and allow set up the new battery powered nest over? I would need to put the old ones back before I leave here. So I'd keep them. I'm asking because I'm getting a great deal at 3 Battery Powered for $175
Thanks, Tuma Time for simplifying the installation. I had short notice to install 5 smoke & 2 co2 alarms ... this video helps exactly
Glad it helped and thanks for watching I like these smoke detectors especially when it sends you a notification on your phone when it goes off
I have a disabled parent, these nest smoke alarms have given me great peace of mind, the phone app has been invaluable to me. Cheers for the video;)
Glad it helped thanks for watching

Brent Deines thanks for watching and the kind words

Thanks for watching good luck on your install
my challenge as well. I wish these plates were standard in the industry. I wonder what you did in the end.
I suspect yout attic will need to be partially filled with smoke before nest detects anything. Might be best of moving it as high as you can.
I'm sorry I couldn't stop laughing once the alarm started going off....
That's awesome. I didn't know the battery versions last so long. I was thinking of wiring mine too but 5 years isn't bad at all for the battery life.
It doesn't last 5 years. I have had battery ones for years. Have to change batteries every year
@sean4064 you using lithium or alkaline?
works beautifully
Thanks it helped a lot and I went with the battery model
Thanks for watching glad it helped
Great video. Couldn't help but notice the radiant barrier. Was that a DIY project and does it make a difference in the attic?
Ronald Orosz thanks for watching I found out about that from Adam corrloa podcast yes it was diy it didn’t make a huge difference in my little townhouse just a little I could have gone closer to the top maybe not sure I would do it again
How did the interconnection of the devices work?
Very well the one in the attic sometimes looses touch but overall good setup thanks for watching
Thanks for sharing great video. Just a question, will it tell you via smart phone when battery is running out of juice.
Trung Hồ thanks for watching not that I’m aware of I still have original battery’s still working
It was helpful to see the set up. Thank you.
Thanks for watching
I live in a 650 sq ft. single bedroom apartment. Do you think buying one is enough to cover the entire apartment?
Juan Ramos thanks for watching not sure of your layout I would think 1 is probably enough you could always get a regular one if you have a wired layout to play it safe
Great video! Thanks for making it less intimidating!
Thanks for watching 😁
And update on this? To see how they are lasting over 5 years?
Still working great, thanks for stopping by
Great video!! Do you prefer the wired one or the battery one?
zeenomorph thanks for watching I like them both the battery works great in the attic the other 2 wired ones work great in the house
Question costco has them for two for 199.00 is this a great price or you can get them cheaper. How to tell which version getting
Geo S. I think I paid 109 on amazon
Tuma thanks for the awesome video
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching
Thanks for the review, my concern is how good the app. im thinking of buying one.
Thanks! I’m very happy with the app. It will notify you if it goes off. I also have the cameras and thermostat they are all on the app

Lesley Casson hello I’m still on my original batteries I forget which way it turns sorry
Well done, thank you so much!
Thanks for watching
Great video. Does the nest monitor temperature or function as an intercom
Mark Welch as an intercom no thanks for watching
What is the life of your battery powered one now? after having it a few months
Anthony Guerra so far so good haven’t had to change them and every month they run their tests checking themselves all good

Tara and Purav Mody thanks for watching
Thank you for show me how to use it
Jason Vansickle thanks for watching
Does the battery version also have the night light feature?
Mike Mclaughlin yes all the same functions I turned my light off on the one in the attic (battery one)
I just bought 3 and yes it does have Path light 💡 with low, medium, and high options . Which even high is really dim bu very useful in the pitch dark .
*Tries to hush it while in test mode* 😂😂
Very helpful, thks
Jazmin your very welcome thanks for watching
GO TO BED OLD MAN. Lol, just kidding, nice video.
Nice video young man. Now this old man is going to bed
Rich T thanks for watching good night
My batteries have to be changed out about every 9 months
No mine is less that a year old and the batteries are chirping already
that sucks my battery ones still have the original batteries in them , thanks for watching
Can you use the wired without a battery?
use Energizer ultimate battery , it last you up to 5 years. If you buy a cheap one, it last only couple months.
Everyone has an installation video. Is anyone smart enough to make one for installation with the app? Nope, no one has that video…. Unbelievable lol 😂
Try the UA-cam search function. I see a lot of nest protect app setup videos
I’m about to be fired
Richard Lannister why? Watching videos at work? Thanks for watching
