This is super informative. I just bought stiletto heels for dance class but realized it's a bit too high and was wondering if it's possible to lower the heels a little. Thank you!
Hi ,Their is a pitch that a cobbler that knows what he is doing won't go beyond, 2 lifts is safe ,that is twice the thickness of the topice on the heel. Stiletto heels can snap at anytime but lowering the heel a little does not the heel at any more risk.I hope this was helpful .Martin
I thought I had had some heels lowered before a long time ago, that's why I came here. I went to a local shoe repair shop and he said it couldn't be done. I don't understand.
Hi as you can see from the video it can be done ,but to be frank some cobblers just can't be bothered unfortunately, you need to find a cobbler that will lower your heels. Regards 😊
How about adding platform to the front heel can it. Be done , maybe even out balance of shoe overall I feel heel goes forward not well balanced to walk in !
Thank you so much, after being told an outright no to having my stilettos lowered, I found your video, and tried elsewhere. They said they can definitely do it! Appreciate your help!
Tricia Star 0 seconds ago I just received a pair today for which I would like the heel shortened one inch....really cute stilettos. If I were only walking on carpet everywhere, then they'd be okay; but, walking on slippery wood, acrylic or linoleum is problematic. I was going to send them back; but, I'd rather try to have the heel shortened. If not, I'll just wear them only wear there's carpeting.
Guys this shoe will not last long. The center of gravity is on the heel. And the shoe has a crooked angled heel. It will snap off with time. Don’t do it.
I have lowered 1000's of heels and if done properly the heel will not snap or break .what evidence or experience do you have to make the comment you have made .
I was wondering if anyone else noticed that. You aren't supposed to alter the heel height because the rest of the shoe is made/angled for that specific height. If you shorten the heel height, it will slant inwards, like you're seeing, and eventually, the entire heel will snap from uneven weight distribution.
Girls, never do this. It seems that this man doesn't even know much about shoes. ►Why? ►When cutting the heel, tree dangerous things happen: 1 The heel descends and the tip of the foot increases, placing the foot in a totally uncomfortable and annoying position for walking. 2- It greatly increases the pressure on the sole of the foot (metatarsal) causing pain in the chest area. 3- The heel is tilted inwards and loses the center of support on the ground with respect to the heel of the foot. This point is the main point so you won't be able to wear those shoes. Very bad shoemaker.
Totally agree, the heel now leans under and looks bloody awe full and will most probably break because of the forces excreted when walking. Hr might have been repairing shoes for 40 years it don’t make it right
@@allanwalker5894 I have lowered thousands of stiletto heels and never has a heel broke as a result of them been lowered ,your assumption of most probably is totally wrong and it is easy to see you have no experience in repairing shoes ,lowering stiletto heels is common practice in shoe repairing .
First of all, never address women as "girls" and expect to be take seriously by any woman with self respect. Second, what you say is only true after a point. There are a great many heels made that have a heel that is too high for the shape of the insole. This puts too much pressure on the metatarsals and makes walking in them awkward. Unless you have walked in our shoes, please stop giving bad advice. A good and knowledgeable cobbler will know when and how much a heel can be reduced before becoming what you warn against.
I had this done on a pair of stilettos for a party. It, also, was just 2 lifts, and it saved my feet. I walked and danced all night. Not once, did the heels turn inward or hurt the soles of my feet, and they never broke off. I will do it again for a pair of stilettos I have for a Christmas Party coming up.

Very interesting Martin, I didn't know you could reduce the heel like that.
Thank you Stephney it makes a big difference regarding comfort.
I have a pair of Guess heels that are so pretty but so high. Now I have hope for them, lol. Gonna see if they can be lowered.

Can this be done with block heels too?
Hi. Yes you can ,a block heel is in fact a bit easier 😊
How much is 2 lifts in measurements? 1/4 inch
Hi 2 lifts is very close to 1/2 inch hope this was helpful .regards Martin Duggan

Yes sometimes I have been asked to add a rise to the sole of a shoe and customers say it makes the shoe more comfortable to wear.
Hi Martin, can you do the same with block , thick heels? Thanks :)
Hi yes I can ,in fact block heels are less problematic.
Thanks! And what if a stiletto heel snap in half? Can this be fixed at all or do I need to change both heels? Thanks for responding :)
I am very careful ,so it would be very unusual for a heel to snap because of the repair .but heels can be replaced
Can the original end bit be reused if the stiletto is the same width all the way along?
Hi Sometimes it can be used. If not a suitable top piece can be used .

Delighted you got sorted , unfortunately some cobblers just don't bother going the extra mile for there customer.

Always worth a try to get the heel lowered a bit.
did it work- i agree on carpet I am fine as well. mines are 4 inches
I brought some that I can not wear and need them cut down so 2 inches
Unfortunately not all heels can be lowered 2 inches ,but as I said in the video a small bet make a difference.

Most of the time very high heels are not for everyday wear. As long as the color and for a special occasion it should work out.
I injured my foot, could no longer wear high heels, so got rid of almost 10 pairs of heels... To now learn this 😭
Never to late to learn 😀 ,but there is always a danger of injury when wearing high heels 😞
