A German mechanic once said to me : Korean and Japanese cars are callous, emotionless, Ahistorical, assembly line manufactured scrap boxes... This video shows that it is not so. That's how I've always thought it is. Hyundai is the car that has moved Korea and many other countries. I've always wanted to have a pony, but learning more about its story strengthens the mental connection to my fable, Hyundai and the pony!

Yup. That was our first family car. White Pony! Then we upgraded to a black Pony II. Eventually, we ventured out to Daewoo LeMan and the came back to Hyundai with Sonata. Those were my parents’. After I came to the states, I went through whole series of different cars from different manufacturers. Mercury Cougar, Chevy Camaro, Nissan Altima, Honda Accord, Honda Pilot, VW CC, Toyota Camry, Acura TL, Honda Odyssey, Kia Optima, Infiniti G37 Coupe, Q50, QX60, QX 50, Honda Clarity PHEV. Now I am settled with 2 EVs. Tesla Model Y and 3. When Hyundai gets tax credit, I would like to get back to Hyundai with Ioniq 7 SUV when it comes out in a couple of years.
이제 현대도 남 앞에 이야기 할 수 있는 역사와 결과물이 있다.. 한국인으로서 뿌듯하네..
마침내 현대가 헤리티지를 논할수있는 기업이 된것같아 한국인으로서 너무 자랑스럽습니다

It is awesome to listen and learn about Hyundai's history. I am proud on how far they have come in the auto industry. I remember people looking down on them during the early days but now, they have become one of the world's top brands. The future looks bright for them.
This is what is missing in the market: recreating iconic vehicles loved by the masses but for a modern world. That means following same designs with a modern twist. Do that and you’ve entered a huge market of consumers.

포니쿠페가 양산되려면 전기차 전용라인인 아이오닉 라인으로 나오는게 현실적으로 보이는데 아이오닉 쿠페로 나올지 아이오닉 74로 나올지 뭐가 되어도 과거에 스쿠프, 티뷰론, 제네시스 쿠페가 있었듯이 N비전74는 꼭 양산되었으면 좋겠네요. 아님 다른 회사들처럼 수프라, 머스탱, 미니 등등 고유 브랜드 포니를 이어가도 좋을 것 같고요. 앞으로가 더 기대되는 현대 입니다.

My first car was a 1984 Pony, when it was introduced to Canada . I loved that car. Exactly forty years later I took delivery of my 2024 Ioniq 5. I love that car too🙂.

Bring back the Pony, looking back now, these were so simple to repair without any of the corruption from electronics. No TPMS, no computer, no nothing…just pure rear wheel drive with manual transmission and manual choke.

중국 전기차들에게는 절대 찾아볼수없는 역사를 현대도 갖고 있다는게 향후 전기차 시대에 분명히 장점이 될것임.테슬라는 개척자겸 전기차 선도기업이라 중국 전기차 기업들이랑 틀리고 세계를 상대로 할때 그 기업의 역사는 무시못함.

I think it is sheer luck that managed to make Hyundai stay so long in the automotive market, and that once-in-a-lifetime chance was greatly utilised by the company to do something about its build quality and quality control procedures before customers in overseas market turn their backs on Hyundai. I have to admit that many Hyundai models starting from late 1990s showing much better engine durability (mind you this is way back from when multipoint injection is the only fuel injection system available, so if a company makes unreliable engines at that time, that means it couldn't master the basics and essential matters relating to building automotive engines like composition of cast iron/alloy materials + measurements of small components, combustion chambers, valves etc. instead of blaming the issues on weaknesses of direct injection system like nowadays).

I have owned this car for a long time. It is my father's car. I always hoped that the car would be returned to the way it was, but I do not have the money to return it new.

It's a great video. However, I believe there is a logical leap in the message it intends to convey. It touches my heart to know that Hyundai Motor, in the old days, improved the quality of life for South Koreans through a car called the Pony. However, I think the encounter with a design genius and the growth of South Korea's national competitiveness were factors contributing to the success of the Pony. I'm curious about what the video aims to communicate about the future.
My take on this video is that it reflects on Hyundai's past and where it came from. The word Hyundai can be translated into English as "modern" or "present." To me, this video is telling the audience that Hyundai Motor is living it up in this very moment but at the same time, did not forget its past or its root. In Japanese, this concept is known as 溫故知新 (おんこちしん) and this short documentary seems to be a poetic reflection on Hyundai's 溫故知新.

보통 다른 광고 영상들은 결국 현대가 현대하네 싶은데… 이 영상만큼은 만감이 교차하네요. 짧은 대한민국 역사에서 Heritage라고 논할만한 브랜드나 제품이 존재하기 쉽지 않은데… 앞으로 현대의 길을 응원합니다.
Korea makes great cars, electronics, and is the major supplier of microchips. But it still lacks in aesthetics. Seoul is probably one of the strangest looking capital city in the world. Hopefully, the next generation will make it more beautiful.
