Great video John. I have a Daiwa 3000 Back Bay & a Conflict II 3000 that I was thinking of pairing up with an 8' medium heavy rod with a fairly fast action. Like to know your thoughts on that set up. (Noticed you used a Conflict in a prior albie vid.) They're both on the + side of 35" per crank with the Saltist being slightly higher although both are smaller than the 4000 you're using. Thanks.
Thanks John. I was leaning more towards the Conflict as well since it's lighter. Lastly have you ever noticed a pattern on they're preference for feeding during certain types of wind conditions?
Have you seen any Albies recently? I'm getting unreliable reports and hope to get out on my boat in next few days. @@thereelraconteur7801 There are specific spots for albies. Breezy point is one. But it's always right place right time. One more thing! I know you need to invest in good tackle if you want have fun instead of frustration... but is there a cheaper reel similar to the penn clash two, but cheaper you think I it will work? And thanks again for your videos!😁👏🏽
Epoxy jigs work. I don't use them because almost all of my albie fishing is done from shore and I prefer metal for distance, and also to provide some resistance when reeling at top speed. Epoxy jigs are generally not as dense as metal jigs, such as Deadly Dicks and Hogy Heavies or Peanut Jigs.
Ahahaha thank you John! Question: why did you said you won’t use this reels in surf casting ??
Most of those hookups, almost all, are a single point of the treble. A single part of a treble is much smaller and penetrates much less than what most people use for singles. I've tried singles, and felt they did as much damage, and sometimes more, than a small treble.
What type of knot do you use for your leader to the lure for albies? Deadly dick have swivels already attached so not sure if that changes what type of knot. Thanks!
Palomar all around.
Does the metal lure type matter? Hopkins, Kastmaster, etc Does bucktail on the hook matter? Would a silver tinsel on the hook work better?
It matters a lot. Deadly Dick, Hogy, something like that. No dressing.

Because these are #5 fish not #60 GTs.
Come on John, Treble hooks with barbs. Real sportsman!!
Most of those hookups, almost all, are a single point of the treble. A single part of a treble is much smaller and penetrates much less than what most people use for singles. I've tried singles, and felt they did as much damage, and sometimes more, than a small treble.
