Josh, I wanted to thank you so much for myself and for the others fellow students who find these lectures of most importance and significance. I use them as supplements to my own studies for I cannot afford Tms but yet by God's grace, you have made it possible to receive the same level of eduction through this free channel. May God continue to uplift and prosper you in all that you do in life. Only God can compensate you for this. Thank you! Be blessed!
If you guys have questions about the course please feel free to look up the professor's email on the tms.edu website and contact them that way. They are very willing to help others grow in the grace and knowledge of our precious Savior Jesus Christ. Thanks for posting a summary Rick!
b. Readings: The two readings are to be book by book and must be read in either an unmarked, unannotated NAS, NKJV, or ESV Bible. The first reading is to be accompanied by short written chapter titles. The second reading is to be followed by the writing of the major themes and the purpose of the book. These two readings should be completed by day the Biblical book is introduced according to the course schedule.
A. Assignments 1. Bible Reading: Each of the books, Genesis to Esther, is to be scanned once and read twice. a. Scanning: The scanning may be done in an unmarked, unannotated Bible of any translation. Initial impressions are to be written down and handed in. There will be a scan of the Pentateuch , the Former Prophets and the Writings studied in this course .
2. Supplemental Reading: For this course, read 400 pages from Cracking Old Testament Codes Sandy & Giese (5- 43, 69-138), A History of Israel Kaiser, Jr., Kingdom of Priests by Merrill, Giving the Sense Howard Jr. & Grisanti, and/or Readings from the Ancient Near East by Arnold and Beyer (pp. 11-172). Also, note Chronological and Background Charts of the Old Testament Walton. Read the special introductions for Genesis to Esther in A Survey of Old Testament Introduction by Gleason L. Archer, Jr
1 Corinthians 2:14 "The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit." A Christian is someone that God has chosen to reveal himself. A sinner saved by grace. If your not born again then of course your going to think its foolish. But if you were born of God, you would have a passion for the scriptures. That's pretty much it. Good question.
This professor is right when he said that the Old Testament gets us ready for the N.T. However, the Intertestamental Era, which includes the books of the Apocrypha, gets us ready for understanding the gospel accounts. They need a course on the Intertestamental Era. It would also help them in understanding some of the other parts of the N.T.
c. The MacArthur Study Bible: Only after the scanning and Bible readings have been completed The introductions for each Biblical book are to be read by the first day the book is discussed in class according to the course schedule.
I simply expect the same equal respect from everyone else. If anyone would like to debate, I would be more than happy to have a debate with anyone on the topic of "Does God Exist?" However, my preference is not to have a formal debate via UA-cam comments.
Not usually if at all. They are not prejudiced in any way towards women. The Bible is clear that women are to stay silent in church and not to preach. Women have many other wonderful attributes and God has ordained them for other important tasks. The school is strictly for men for that reason.
Also, I did not deny her right to dissent. I simply pointed out a flaw in her reasoning. The fact that we do or do not believe something does not necessarily make it any more or less true. In other words, absolute truth is true, whether or not we believe it. Gravity didn't start working whenever we discovered it. Rather, the law of gravity was a fact even before mankind's discovery of it. American history wasn't written when I read my first American history textbook. The truth was already there.
Dear Joshua I`m from Rio de Janeiro Brazil and I`ll spend my next vacation nearby 10850 Wilshire Boulevard #210 Los Angeles, CA 90024. Is it possible to get from there to TMS by public transport? Are visitors welcome to get to know TMS facilities and classes? Thank you for your attention.
No one can be upset at the conclusion that I have come to after weighing all of the evidence. And this is why I am not being as stern with you as I was with her: because you have not been rude in your dissent. I believe that the proper context for an argument is in a formal debate, where both sides receive equal time to make their points. However, if someone comes here and starts something, I believe that I have a right to defend my beliefs. I do not go onto videos on atheism and attack them.
I didn't claim that the Old Testament was, in and of its own existence, physical proof of the existence of God. I am not attacking anyone's right to disagree. Rather, I was trying to prove a point that it is wrong for someone to come here and rudely and/or defiantly attack what I do believe. I was once an atheist. However, while I was an atheist, I still tried not to publically attack anyone who believed differently than I did. Now, philosophy has led me to accept Christ.
Some people lack philosophical training. What do you need to do to prove that there is no gold in Alaska? You would: 1) Need to know everything about Alaska and 2) Would need to dig up every square inch of land in Alaska. If there is even one square inch of land that is not dug up, gold may be located there. In the same way, in order to state as a fact that God does not exist, a person would need to know everything because, if there is even one thing he/she doesn't know, it could be God. However
Therefore, in order to state as fact that there is no God, a person MUST make the claim to be all-knowing. However, omniscience (being all-knowing) is an attribute of God. So, in order to state as a fact that there is no God, a person must claim an attribute of God. Could they also be claiming to be the God that they so deny? That can't be right, because they would need to deny their own existence. And if they deny their own existence, who is making the claim that there is no God?
I appreciate these studies but this professor is ignorant to the truth of the Torah for today. Peter was eating a ham sandwich? WRONG! When the Torah says to "not boil a kid in its mother's milk," it means to not boil a kid in its mother's milk! It doesn't mean you can't eat cheese with meat.
Either way, Kelly's logic is flawed. She claims to have read the Bible, and then to have become an atheist. In other words, she read and didn't believe. Well, I could easily say that I have read her status (as I have) and do not believe that she is real. Would my logic in that argument bring an appropriate conclusion? No. Her argument against God is flawed in the same way, and I hypothesize that, as many do, she doesn't like the logical outcome if the Bible is true, and has based her decision
Too bad Christianity can't stand on it's own without claiming that Jesus is referenced in the Hebrew Bible where there is actually nothing of the kind.
Where do they get these clowns from? He hasn't said one syllable of the subject matter and already I'm bored out of my skull. And then that demeanor... Ugh!
*yawn* yeah yeah. Here's the thing, like most English girls I was brainwashed with this crap when I was a kid, so yes I have believed in my life, however, as I said, I read it, researched it and what do you know? It's not real honey. So save the preaching for the uneducated.
2523160 Education It's great that you had your brain washed. Unfortunately your brain sounds rather muddy now. Can I suggest you get brainwashed again. Praying for you buddy
Made up? Would you care to back up your statement...to Yourself, not me or to believers like me. We know what we believe because we know the One in whom we believe. Your statement demands support, proof of why you think or believe that it's made up. Otherwise your belief is blind, not based on facts. But we understand because unless you know Jesus Christ, how can you know God or accept his teachings or the Bible as God's Word. There is only one way to God. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. No one, he said, comes to the Father, God, except through him, Jesus. That's why he, God himself, became flesh, born a Jew; lived amongst us, @2000 years ago in Israel; was crucified, by the Romans @AD 33, his blood was shed , as a sacrifice pleasing to God to wipe away man's sin, and it's consequence--death and eternal separation from God and escape God's final judgment on man. Yes we die but like Jesus, we shall rise, forgiven to live forever. The proof of this last part is Jesus himself. He had the power to rise from the death, he has the power to raise us too and do all he promised...Come back for his believers, keep them from his judgment on earth, 7-year Tribulation time, escape final judgment at God's Throne, and live forever with him and not be cast into the Lake of Fire where all inhabitants of hell unbelievers, will be eventually cast, as is written in the Bible. BUT, God so loved you, He gave you his Son, Jesus, so that if you believe in him, you will not perish but will have everlasting life. (Book of John, chapter 3, verse 16) But don't take my word for it. You should read it for yourself, then make your final supported statement. Thanks for reading this.
Skip to about 20 minutes to get to some actual substance. Everything before is a bunch of jibber jabber about himself. Even then most of this lecture is trash.
I majored in computer science at a university, it's common and suggested to do that. This is a standard in the industry for quality profs, it was a great lecture! :)

Therefore, atheism is folly. Too many contradictions. Too little evidence. Philosophically unstable. I'm sure this post will upset someone who comes here to pick a fight.
