    While I'm not exactly in support of Lepin, I do not think the issue is as clear cut as, "LEGO good, Lepin bad." For instance, a lot of the preference for Lepin seems to revolve around accessibility. People are turning to the pirated option because the legit option is just too expensive or isn't in stock anymore. This makes sense. The same thing happens with video games (i.e. emulation being the alternative to retro gaming, it being inaccessible). On another note, people seem to be raising this idea that Lepin is unfair to the designers and is some sort of betrayal to them; however, it is worth noting that LEGO doesn't ever credit their designers on their respective sets. I point this out because it's silly for people to be morally grandstanding about LEGO piracy. LEGO will be just fine. The movie industry freaked out about piracy in the mid-2000s and then nothing happened. It didn't even budge the box office. I'm sure LEGO will be the same. They'll finish suing Lepin and this will all blow over. Someone who pirates is not a lost customer- they were never a customer in the first place.

      For me I would never buy my 12 year old this $900 set in a million years. But I've seen this lepin set much more obtainable. I'm def considering for next xmas. LEGO didn't loose out cause I was never going to buy the real one anyways.

    • @Santanilla
      @Santanilla 5 років тому +4

      I will only support buying piracy when the model is out of stock. Otherwise if you can’t afford it you can’t afford it , as easy as that. No one has ever died for not owning a lego set. Go buy a smaller set instead. The only reason there is piracy out there is because people care shit about the designers and all the effort and sweat involved on its creation. Try explaining your kids that you are buying them piracy ( stolen creativity) in order to make them happy and let me know what they think. Are those the values you want to promote in the next generation, now wonder why our world sucks today ?

    The only love I will ever give Lepin, is that they are providing a building experience, even though they didn't dream it up themselves, to markets that would normally never get to have such a thing. There are plenty of 'barely making it' parents in the USA that would gladly take the Lepin solution, in a heartbeat. It's still intellectual theft, and quality wise, they cut every corner imaginable, not so much with manufacturing, but printing, designers, and those oh-so costly licensing agreements.

      I've never ever had a Lego™ set where I had to assemble every single little piece of the mini-figures, like I had to with this Lepin kit. With two hands and two arms to attach to each torso, each bottom part also came as the hip bit and two separate legs (thats' six more pieces per figure than Lego would have had). I also suspect that they may have used smaller pieces for, say, panels, but I haven't had a chance to compare with the original (though for completeness I plan to get one eventually).

You all are attacking a person who doesn’t have the money to get the real product so he opted for a less expensive model, it’s just like buying a cheaper truck that’s almost the same as another model from a different company, that’s design was probably copied, but no one gives a shit because it’s almost the same truck for a cheaper price. The point is, is that it really doesn’t matter, and saying “oh LEGO made the design and there just copying, so anyone who buys it is evil”, is just stupid, it’s just being smart enough to get a better deal

      Larger authentic Lego panels/plates have always been better than lepin in almost every measurable way. The 900 piece count difference is odd alright. I know Lepin do count their parts differently, like each minifigure counts as anywhere from 6 to 10 parts as they count the head, headpiece, torso, each arm, hand, leg and midsection. And the same goes for any moving or hinged piece that can be split into two bricks.
    But yeah, thank goodness for numbered bags... I got the Executor Super Star Destroyer a week ago, and it took me 8 hours just to sort through the parts...

      Another thing to think about with lepin is that it may actually be Lego themselves capturing the low end of the market that way they can still capitalise on the IP. The other thought is as with all manufacturers when they move to China (Lego in 2015 I believe) is that they teach china how to make their products and then the Chinese just copy it. They kind of brought it on themselves, I have seen it with many products

This company is also a supplier to automotive suppliers which supply they parts like bumpers to big brands as BMW, GM etc. Do they feal guilty? This is all about corparate business and the money. JohnZorZ84 Well you should be. You're supporting the undermining of western industry by China outright stealing products. I.e. you are supporting academic theft. This has been impacting Lego, their profits fell for the first time in 13 years earlier this year. If Lego does have to cut back it will be Lego and Lepin users suffering the consequences of less designs and sets like this. Not to mention Lepin has been found to be toxic with silicone gel on the pieces. If you can't afford or 'justify to buy lego' do everyone a favour and just don't buy it. Furthermore, if you want to sell it in the future you will not get a penny for it.

    • @JohnZorZ
      @JohnZorZ  6 років тому +16

      Well lucky for me, my feelings aren't dependent on your thoughts towards them.
      You are right Lego profits were down in 2017, first drop in 13 years. However you failed to mention that 2016 saw Lego Group see it's highest revenue in its 85 year history. ( www.statista.com/statistics/282870/lego-group-revenue/ ) ( www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2017/03/09/lego-reports-highest-revenue-85-year-history/ ) So having a revenue drop in the year following their most successful year in history is hardly a cause for concern. The start of a downward trend? Maybe. Just a hickup in an otherwise steadily rising revenue stream? Also possible. Either way, I think Lego will be ok.
      Toxic pieces you say? Thanks for the heads up, I'll make sure not to bring the Lepin falcon as the main course to the charity potluck this weekend.
      Do me a favour too will you? You do with your money what you choose to, and I will do the same with mine.
      Won't get a penny? I'm sure if I melted all my sets down and sold the raw plastic I could get at least a nickel, maybe even a dime if I polish it up real shiny like.

      Yes Lepin pieces can randomly have odd stains and inperfections on them. Not all the pieces not even most of them, but in a set of several thousand peices you may get a handful (like 5-10 maybe more) that are partially melted, or have some odd stain. Welcome to wild capitalism, folks!
    It's a fact that LEGO made something truly amazing and high value....
    But that doesn't means that they should charge insane prices. $80 set is ok? It's $120 in my country where they actualy produce it... They make HUGE profit already.
    Be happy for companies like LEPIN that can bring such an educational toy for those who aren't able to spend LEGO's overprices. Not to mention the deeply greedy second-market of sets and pieces...
    Fun Fact: The less LEGO sells, the more friendly offers they have to do.
    P.s.: Cheers, please throw away your cars as well because they're aren't original Ford T model successors.
    You have a Toyota? Sure, asian copy, no buy? Be reasonable over your demagogues...

      And then remember when Lego patented every brick design possible 10 years after stealing kidibricks design?
      Where is kidibricks today? where is any lego competition?
      There is none because they stole their way to where they are then made sure no one could do the same.

    If Lego dropped their greed for money then Lepin wouldn't get any sales. Lego have just been greedy pure and simple and as most people cannot afford their prices for sets then Lepin are onto a winner with sets they produce being 2/3rds cheaper than Lego on average here in the UK. The Lego UCS Falcon set only costs £30 to produce, including wages, so you can see how greedy they are for your cash. As long as UK Customs allow importation I'm happy to buy Lepin sets and before you say im a Lego hater I have all my life bought and still buy Lego sets but if Lepin offer them at a fairer price then I'm ok with it, that's what drives the market. I have this set but have yet to assemble it due to no shelf space. This was a good review and puts my mind at rest as to quality.

      Proctor Productions people need to stop using the word steal, words have definitions and definitions are important. This is not a stolen product, this didn't "fall off a truck" somewhere. Stolen means that the original owner is no longer in possession of that item. These sets are not stolen. The designs have been copied and illegally reproduced. So these are bootleg/knock-off products. Not stolen products, regardless of using the qualifier "practically". Stolen designs?... I wouldn't even use it in that scenario, no one snuck into Lego HQ and stole designs from there. Call them bootlegs, knock-offs, illegal pieces of shit, whatever. But please use the appropriate words.

    • @LaZoucheCustomshop
      @LaZoucheCustomshop 6 років тому +4

      Proctor Productions These are knock offs or copies but that's immaterial as the U.S. garage model kit industry has been doing it for years with vac form copies etc so it's not as if Lepin are the bogeyman here, they are just exploiting a loophole to make money and isn't that the capitalist way (ironic it's a socialist country that's doing it lol)? Supply and demand and you do agree Lego are ripping us off. As ive stated before the actual cost of production of the UCS Falcon is £30 (about $23) including licencing/wages/designer fees, so the mark up is ridiculous! If Lego dropped their prices then I'm fine with just buying Lego and I still do buy Lego but not when the price is simply exploitative. Anyway I feel there are those that will always 'feel' bad over this issue and then those that dont but remember this, who is the more foolish in fueling a materialistic/exclusivity based ideal of what is essentially just a toy by paying silly prices for it? I'm a realist and very much grounded in 'I buy what I can afford' by voting with my wallet I'm enforcing that right and drumming it home to the companies that want us to be materialistically biased sheeple by not paying unrealistic prices. To quote couple of clichéd notions but... "who is the more foolish the fool or the fool who follows him?" or "a fool and his money are soon parted". Please don't feel this is a rant at you individually as I mean no ill intent but im just highlighting a point which transends so many things these days and I hold the fashion industry to blame for it all, exclusivity by false idiolgy ;-)

    • @JohnZorZ
      @JohnZorZ  6 років тому +1

      The definition of steal: take (another person's property) without permission or legal right and without intending to return it.
      We are all entitled to our own opinions. No one is entitled to their own facts and definitions. Lepin is copying a lego design, yes. They are producing and selling a bootlegged product. These products are not stolen, the designs are not stolen. The designs are copied.Lepin is doing to Lego what Lego did to Kiddikraft.

    • @brianhsin678
      @brianhsin678 6 років тому +7

      it's called licensing fees and R & D. Do you think the intellectual property of Disney is free? Do you think the lego engineer's time is free ? The graphic designers for the box art, the manual, marketing, shall i go on? Stop trying to justify stealing because you're too cheap to dish out for the real thing. Same with any counterfeit item, if can't afford it, go without. Same situation when people buy a fake Rolex and try to justify it, if you can't afford a Rolex buy a fucken Seiko. If you can't afford Lego, the market has plenty of other brick companies that design their own sets. I am not sure where you pull this claimed "cost" for a UCS falcon. Where is your research to back it up?

Meanwhile a genuine Lego one on Bricklink costs as much as the Lepin set. So that's one thing to keep in mind, Lepin won't care about missing or broken parts (which are many in this one, but all of the other ones are common). I also had the wrong color for that panel, but it's ok. And those stickers are completely wrong.

      That's all coming from the consumer, and I'd care less if the asking price is good enough to rob someone out of their wage for other financial concerns

    Thanks for the video. But when you comment about pricing... I don't know the real costs Lego have with designers, to project all these intricate new Lego parts, and to think about assembling those in a Playful way (also important) - no to tell quality control, marketing, and many many more. But this HAS a COST, people should know it at least. Another thing is just copy all this intellectual property and sell plastic blocks.

    • @JohnZorZ
      @JohnZorZ  6 років тому +2

      Ya I know there is a large cost associated with the actual designs of the indiviual bricks and the sets as a whole, and licensing and all the other overhead that lego has. But if Lepin is able to produce the exact same thing of very similar quality (not matching lego yet) and still turn a profit, I wonder if that more than $500 difference in price is all needed to make up Lego's overhead and quality difference.

  • @christhelegend7763

    What if LEGO stopped making lego. What would Lepin do. Stop aswell. I get that its cheaper. I totally get it, but they still copy LEGO, so if LEGO stops, Lepin stops. And i know LEGO is overpriced sometimes, but if everyone buys Lepin, what do You think will happen. Still great review👍

    • @JohnZorZ
      @JohnZorZ  6 років тому +7

      If Lego were to ever stop, I think Lepin would likely still continue for a time. They release MOC sets pretty often, and also have some of their own sets as well I think. Of if Lego stays around and China changes its copyright laws and then prevents Lepin from selling these, then maybe at that time lepin will start to exclusively design their own sets.

    • @SuborNL
      @SuborNL 6 років тому +7

      I don't think everyone will stop buying Lego and start buying Lepin. 80/90% of the sales are sold in-store, bought by parents for their kids. Economy is doing well, money needs to be spend. Lepin will never take over Lego. No proof to back it up, but think about it rationally and logically.

    • @NMLE
      @NMLE 6 років тому +3

      JohnZorZ84 The MOC is copied from lego ideas builders where lepin DID NOT ask them for their rights to produce the set, and the designers themselves does not have any credit nor profits. At least lego is honest to give designers a credit and 1% profit should their set goes up fir sale.
