    Great to see the progress of the collection. Love the oreophylus. The fastest trachy I have is a fortunei with some nova features. 2m now, very fast growing over the last 5 years. I have the tesan and the misan varieties. Tesan has very little distinguishing features from the standard fortunei to my eye. The misan is a cool dwarf variety which looks like a dinky fortunei. I've got a fortunei x Martianus but looks more fortunei like at this stage. Spear-pulled but recovered last winter.

    I planted 9 trachycarpus fortunei which I bought in b and q about 7 years ago then grew them on in pots and protected them over winter and fertilized them but now they been in the ground for 3 years ,each one was over 4ft except for one that was 6ft and everyone has developed massive trunks from the base upwards ,the largest one the trunk is thicker than my waist and it chucked out 12 spears 😅 it's still chucking out 3 spears now and it's 9 ft tall ,it's just a beast ,but I think it's a nova and the others are growing at the same rate ,massive trunks and chucking out at least 6 to 8 spears 😂😅 , I dread to think how big this beast is going to be in 10 years 😂😅

    I love Princeps and sadly lost a very small one last year. However I do have a Princeps x Fortunei that's doing very well in a pot. But I do think your Oreophilus is very, very nice.

    Nice video chris , ill have to do a Trachycarpus walk through at some stage..last winter i lost a few including my martianus Napal, martianus kasia hills, latisectus, and a small oriophlus 😢 All of which i won't try again. All the others fared better. My 4 fortunii, 3 wagnarianus, 2 Nova, 2 manipur, 1 ukrihensus, 2 fortunii/princeps Cross. 3 princeps, 1 tesan, 1 nanus , 2 waggi /princeps croses,1 fortunii/martianus, and a lovely True Nova /princeps Cross. Also a few small purchases this year....1 winsan , princeps/Nanus cross, 1 Nanital, 1 Nanital/princeps cross, I think thats all of them....😊

    I kind of wish you had started with multiple examples of each species so we could tell more if a plant that was struggling slightly with growth was because of its location and micro climate or if it was just a bad grower for our climate. Love these updates though thanks Kris

      I do have others of most of the species. Only the oreophilus is a one off

    Question for you. If you had to move house would you try and take them with you? That was really good to see how they are doing. Watch this space!

      The rarer species I'd certainly move with me, but there's no plans to ever move.

    Chris! What's that blue bamboo called you had in an earlier video? It was C3PO or something. I want to plant it this spring. Cheers, Simon

    Nice collection! Do you get cold damage on the T. oreophilus? How much freezing can it handle before showing damage?

    • @YorkshireKRIS
      @YorkshireKRIS  8 місяців тому +1

      It's seen minus 7⁰c on a few occasions. Damage normally shows at the end of winter but its never that bad.

    Nice update kris. Could the small leaves on the geminisectus be from last winter? My vulcano has done this since last winter its still not pushing normal size leaves.

      Yes almost certainly down to last winters cold. Another one nearer the house is doing a lot better.

    I’m wondering if they were given more separation would some grow more given more light, more space for roots and less shading.

    • @YorkshireKRIS
      @YorkshireKRIS  8 місяців тому

      Yes, provided the ground isn't frozen but much better to wait until spring . Pot grown plants are totally fine though
