    Redoing my strawberry bed this spring.
    This bed has seen tomatoes, peppers along with perennial cover crops of creeping thyme and oregano. The strawberries are going to be by themselves from here on out.
    I have a wood chip path along this bed that has been growing strawberries for two years now, putting them all where they belong.
    Seeing how well they grew in the wood chip walkway, will be mulching with wood chips as you showed in your video.
    I fertilize with homemade comfrey tea and top dress with worm castings.
    Where did you get that wood chipper? I have been looking for a smaller unit.
    Nice video! Stay Well!!!

    I love the video! Thank you for sharing! We have chickens, so plenty of manure for fertilizer. We also jus got 30 cubic yards of wood chips dropped off by our local arborists. I think our strawberry plants are going to do awesome this year!

    • @amazinggarden
      @amazinggarden  Місяць тому +2

      Yes, but remember that too much fertilizer for strawberries is worse than too little. Strawberries can accumulate nitrates in the fruit from excess fertilizer, and sometimes they simply dry out. So fertilize in moderation.

    • @rhinothumping
      @rhinothumping Місяць тому

      I always fertilize after applying mulch. It slow feeds the plants that way.

    • @rhinothumping
      @rhinothumping Місяць тому +2

      @susan, You should really compost chicken manure before using it for strawberries. Because the berries can come in contact with the fertilizer if it rains heavily, un-composted could be risky.

    It looks like you built your raised beds out of wooden pallets. We have moved to a very rural property in Georgia, in the middle of a 300 acre woodland forest. So not only do I have problems with my entire property being covered in shade at least part of the day from all of the forest trees, but our soil is sticky, compacted, red Georgia clay. So my husband has built me three raised beds out of free wood pallets, but they look much different than your raised beds. Basically my husband takes all of the boards off of the pallet, removes all of the nails, and he makes each side of the bed out of three long boards. Then he cuts the last three boards in half and makes the two ends. It takes quit a bit of time to build each bed, that is why he has only gotten three built so far. I was wondering how you made your raised beds and what type of wooden pallet did you use? We have a lot more raised beds to build in order for me to have enough room to grow all of my vegetables and flowers. And I noticed your beds are a lot lower than ours, which means they would not require as much soil to fill. Thanks, I really enjoy your videos.

      I will definitely edit a video this week about how I made these beds. They are made of ordinary pallets that I cut in half. The beds are about 16 inches high.

      Get a gas powered tiller break up the soil when its not too wet and amend with clay breaker, perlite, coco coir, or anything. Plant several hundred ginseng seeds and in 5 - 7 years you will make a killing. They grow in shade.

      From my research, once in the spring and once in the fall, depending on if the strawberries are June bearing or ever bearing. Experiment. When you do something that you are not sure, do it to a couple of planta and put a tag and write what you did different. If you make a mistake, maybe you'll ruin a couple of plants as opposed to all of them.

    what about using urine to fertilize the strawberries (as well as the other vegetables/fruits) by diluting until 10% with water adding eventually ashes into the mixture? by doing that only during the period of growth you may spare money and preventing from polluting drinkable water

      You need to make high beds and fill them with nutritious soil, buy it in a store, or dig it up in the forest. Then you can plant strawberries in it and add compost and fertilizer.

    I did away with grass in my tiny yard and now it's a wall to wall strawberry field that gives me an abundant harvest each year to eat fresh, share, and make jams. Fertilization is important but I just scatter small food scraps plus leaves in the fall and let my fat worms do the work. All I have to do is pick the berries, I don't even water.
