To "resume" the video clip, the girl on the ship is Noodle. She's the band guitarist and she had disappeared since the last album, when gorillas disbanded. Murdock, the green guy with the smoking pipe, is the band bassist. He kidnaped 2D, the black eyed blue hair guy, who is the lead singer of the band. Murdock kidnapped him and took him to the plastic beach because he didn't want to sing in the band anymore. Mudock also built a cyborg version of noodle to play the guitar (the one with the shotgun at the end) and got a soundboard to replace the missing drummer. The plastic beach was a patch of garbage that murdock found in the nemo point (a place in the ocean that's most distant from any land mass) while he was fleeding from enemies that he acquired for doing other shitty things (like the guy in the plane that survives noodle machine gun, and the guy with red glasses that appears at the end killing the manatee). Everyone that appears in submarines are other musicians who were in the plastic beach doing collabs in the plastic beach album (snoop dog is just one example). The giant guy who saves original noodle in the lifeboat is russel, the band percussionist, and I don't remember exactly how but he found out that murdock was doing shitty business in the middle of the ocean, and jumped in the sea to save 2D. He became giant because of ocean pollution. Murdock enemies discovered what he was doing and where, and attacked the plastic beach. So he and all the other musicians are fleeding the island in this clip.
To sum it up briefly, this video is a follow up video from the 'Stylo' music video. It follows everyone's journey to the island of Plastic Beach. Murdoc (the green guy in the shark submarine) has a habit of making false promises and shady deals, which causes problems for him and the other band members. The pirates (guys in the planes) and the Boggieman (the cloaked gas mask guy) are hunting Murdoc for this reason. The next video that follows this is the 'Rhinestone Eyes' storyboard/anamatic.

I just enjoy the variety that one gets when listening to Gorillaz. One can put all their albums on shuffle and hear a little bit of every genre.
