    You need to add the starch that comes out when you squeeze the mass through a cloth.You need a lot of gravy for dumplings.

    This is how my Grandma made Dumplings, except I don't remember her putting a Crouton in the middle. My Greatgrandparents were from Bavaria and Bohemia.
    Yours look better than Grandma's!

    Making these right now! My mother's family is from Southern Germany, but sadly did not pass down recipes. Which I'm a sucker for. These are very simple, but to the point, so I can't wait to eat them!

    My mother was from Poland...we make ours just like this...Add a nice pork roast with gravy some red cabbage and you got yourself a meal

      @@naimapeukert8575 ohhh ich liebe alte Kochbücher, ich hab auch welche. ich würde gerne noch ein paar haben, aber ich kann nicht alle lesen da manchmal die Schrift oder Dialekt so extrem ist. Wenn es dir nichts ausmacht, woher beziehst du diese? LG

    Great recipe! Years ago I visited some friends in Bavaria. The lady cooked them as a dessert with sugar and cinnamon (I think it was cinammon). Do you know this recipe? I loved them this way too!! Greetings from Greece!

      Thank you so much❣️ yes indeed I do.. it’s a little bit of a different dough and sometimes has plum or apricot filling. Rolled in roasted bread crumbs, sugar and cinnamon. It’s been a tradition in Bavaria is but has original roots from Austria 😊

    I hope this isn't a dumb question, but can I prepare the dough and refrigerate over night, then form and boil the dumplings the next day?

      Dan Zindren you absolutely can :) just make sure it’s sealed airtight. i do that like when I have a lot of guests. 😊

    Why do my potatoes turn grey after mixing. do you use only yellow potatoes

      Hello darling, yes I actually just use yellow potatoes. In Germany they are mostly all yellow. It’s a natural reaction that white potatoes turn grey, just cover them up quickly so less air reaches them ☺️
