- Live stream from the concert of Dmitry Shostakovich's Symphony No.7 (Leningradskaya), the composer dedicated to the Siege of Leningrad in the years of WWII.
The concert will be given on the Spit of Vasilyevsky Island in St Petersburg (Leningrad), performed by The Youth Symphony Orchestra of Russia, conducted by Yuri Bashmet in the day of the 80th Anniversary of it's premiere in Leningrad (St Petersburg) at the 9th of August 1942.
It will be supported with the unique lighting and visual show consisted of 871 projectors - the symbolic number for Leningrad, as exactly 871 days lasted the Siege of Leningrad.
Dmitry Shostakovich started composing the Symphony No.7 in C major (Leningradskaya) Op.60 in Leningrad, but finished in the town of Samara (back then called Kuybyishev) in December, 1941, where Shostakovich was in evacuation together with the musicians of the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra.
The premiere of Symphony No.7 happened at the 5th of March, 1942 in Samara. It was harder to manage the premiere in Leningrad as back then it was under the siege by German forces. However, the score of the Symphony was delivered to Leningrad (dropped from the airplane) and starved musicians started the rehearsals. The collective of Leningrad Radio Orchestra, conducted by Karl Eliasberg, got ready to premiere it in Leningrad at the 9th of August, 1942 in the Grand Hall of Leningrad Philharmonic (now named after Dmitry Shostakovich).
Leningrad Radio Committee broadcasted the Premiere on the radio all over Leningrad and the Soviet Union.
It is difficult for anyone in the west to understand how deeply Shostakovich's 7th symphony touches and reflects the soul of Russia, particularly to those who lived it and are still alive.
Shostakovich is my favourite music composer, like the 4th and 5th symphony's not to mention his famous Waltzes 😊
What a beautiful evening! The fireworks were also amazing!
Thank you so much, Sergei😊and Great Russia 🇷🇺
I enjoy genius concert😭👍
What a genius performance😱 I can’t believe it😍Wow ❣️
Thank you SO MUCH for streaming this overwhelmingly beautiful and moving Symphony No. 7 anniversary concert and the added information as to the difficulties of the premiere in besieged Leningrad in 1942! A nation willing and able to perform such an incredible and meaningful piece of art under desastrous siege is and will be truly invincible, and this Symphony and this concert are a strong reminder of that.
The Great Symphony! 🎼🎵🎶
What the noble n soulful faces!
An atmosphere of greatness, pride, perseverance and strength!
Thank you for the wonderful n fabulous live stream, Sergey n Albina! 💞😊
Special performance and video. Spectacular! A very impressive concert. I am very happy you shared this event with us. Bravo!🎉
Great music ... great country ... great people ❤
Yes, absolutely. I am deeply at odds with the drummed-up Russophobia of these days.
@@louise_rose Since the 1960s we, in the West, have no longer been "peoples": free markets and unbridled consumerism have reduced us to puppets of "elites" who have deprived us of every "critical" spirit ... please forgive our stupidity !
Watched this live at Rutube after a Moscow friend had alerted me of the concert a few days in advance. Absorbing and evocative, with such great views of the city of Peter and of all Russians, a city that Mrs. Churchill, on a visit at the end of the war, called one of the most beautiful cities of the world (in a private cable home to Winston - she was on a goodwill tour of European Russia, and actually in Moscow on VE Day). The glimpses of women who lived through those terrible times, now in their nineties (one of them even a hundred years old!) is simply haunting. Thank you for uploading this to UA-cam, I knew someone would but it feels natural that it would be you. :)
😍😍
Russia is such beautiful country ♥️🇷🇺
I visited St Petersburg in 1994. I didn’t get to see any music of Shostakovich, sadly, but I did see a performance of an opera by Rimsky-Korsakov, The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia. Long title but beautiful music. Thanks for the upload.
I was there! It was amazing!
Wonderful congrats
Awesome symphony thanks in 👏👏👏👏👏👏🎶
My RUSSIA is the best!!! My country is light in the dark world. Love my lovely old mother RUSSIA!!! I am RUSSIAN. Nothing can’t change. I am proud!!!!!!!!! Love ❤️ Russia 🇷🇺!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful Country, bad politics not to mention one of the leading countries in the world for corruption. Shame!!
I his 5th symphony as well including the waltz's
I'm so glad I was able to be a part of the live stream for that excellent performance of the 7th symphony - thanks for sharing this with us 😃👍
Thank you
Fantastic, an absolutely riveting performance.
It is funny that whilst the whole of Europe will be switching off all their public lighting, St Petersburg will look like a beacon.
🤣👍👏👏
It is ironic that whilst the "west" slips into a period of Darkness, Conformity to the Ruling Party, Xenophobia, Russophobia, Sinophobia, and other phobias against countries who do not tow the line of Brussels and Washington D.C. the Peoples of Russia, China, India, The Global South and the East shine forth as the future.
Mir fehlen die Worte. Einfach nur.........
Bravo! Greetings from France.
Great to see Yuri in action!

This is where talent Reigns thanks
I love this symphony. And I only came by this video by accident. What a passionate performance to mark the 80th anniversary of Shostakovich's symphony. I read about the background into Shostakovich's writing of it... loved the mood of euphoria and defiance at the end! Having the speakers on there was an interesting. I'm sorry I didn't understand what they were saying. I love how this generation of Russians keeps its link with history.
Awesome and powerful interpretation. Would love to hear the translation from the narrators. Congrats to the musicians and the director.
Very nice 😊 greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭

Epic Performance of an impressive Symphony! Thanks, dear Sergey!
The artists are the soul of a strong nation.
Stunning evening
Thank you so much 🎻 that was stunning ✨🎖🎆🎇 I just watched 💻 the Mariinsky performance of this symphony right before I watched 💻 this - it truly is a unique piece of art 🎼🎵🎶 and hearing and seeing it like this 😯 after reading 💻 a little of the history 🕰, plus your descriptions 🎤 at the start and the video cuts 🎬 of people 🎖 in this video 🎥 really does bring the story 📖 to life and bridge the time 🕰 between generations. Absolutely stunning 🎻🥁🎺 thank you again 💐
in Russia they still love their great composers.( music is a religion/ sth above)
In Europe every musician is a great composer (culture is a business)

Hi, Sergei, I suggest you to show us the Art of Georgy Kurasov, an incredible painter of Saint Petersburg. How about an interview with him? He was born when Saint Petersburg was called Leningrad in 1958. And he still alive.

Is this real?
Yes, it is real - Its my second home city.
RUSSIA BUILDINGS ARE MADE OF HIGH QUALITY MASONRY ,BUILT TO LAST THOUSANDS OF YEARS.
Unlike the Yooks 😂
Take a look at much of russian buildings and you will find them in need of renovation or demolition, watch differentrussia, and baklykov road trips, pre revolutionary stone and brick were well built usually but are a minority of russian buildings today, new construction is widespread.
Russian Star Wars
Durring the 1800s Russia had allot of poverty in the country side.THE BOOKS ARE OUT THERE IN PICTURES OF RUSSIA DURRING THE TZAR,
there was a lot of poverty everywhere in those days.))
