Debating on whether or not to include these in my comic's Hellhound Union. Hellhounds are the group name for any and all supernatural dog creature. Since Lovecraft is public it might be my one nod to him. The comic is nowhere near scary enough for more than a cameo of a 'Tindi Hound' in the background.
Opposite faction is the Coven of Grimalkine, led by Big Ears the demonic Lord of all Cats. Anything cat-like and supernatural falls under them. They actually have a lot in common, most are general Earth spirits and linked to the leylines of our planet. Anyone else is just some prehistoric cat that got too close to raw magic, and raw magic loves nothing more than to break biology. A barghuest is really just a dire wolf that touched magic and became glowing and generally incorporeal.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why you should never read aloud random spells in Call of Cthulhu. Your GM might have decided to slip you a time travel spell, and now you're suddenly being tracked by a Hound.

Like. If i remembered right, those Hounds could penetrate from a dimension to a dimension only thru angles between walls etc. If so, I am happy for Hobbits who live in their circular houses with no angles.

That's their only weakness, however it *only* slows them down, and doesn't completely stop them. They can smell people from billions of light years away through space *and* time, and can simply step into and out of time at will to reach their prey. They also lack the fundamental element necessary to die, and so they are incapable of perishing.

Interestingly has occasionally been shown to include metaphorical angles. There once was a round house, but the occupancy was triangular.

Reminds me of the "hounds" mentioned in the emerald tablets of thoth. Wonder if they r the same? Another great reading. Thank you.
    "List ye, O man,
to the depth of my wisdom.
Speak I of knowledge hidden from man.
    Far have I been
    on my journey through SPACE-TIME,
even to the end of space of this cycle.
Aye, glimpsed the HOUNDS of the Barrier,
lying in wait for he who would pass them.
In that space where time exists not,
faintly I sensed the guardians of cycles.
    Move they only through angles.
Free are they not of the curved dimensions.
    Strange and terrible
are the HOUNDS of the Barrier.
Follow they consciousness to the limits of space.
Think not to escape by entering your body,
for follow they fast the Soul through angles.
Only the circle will give ye protection,
    save from the claws
    of the DWELLERS IN ANGLES"

Makes sense! Both this and the modern “translation” of Thoth were published around the same time. I did a little digging, and not only were the modern translations similar to Lovecraft, it was downright plagiarism written by a gentleman named Maurice Doriel, who wrote the “Emerald Tablets of Thoth the Atlantean.” Although original mentions of the tablets go back to about the sixth century, we can be certain that what we have now is a work of pure fiction which flagrantly rips off of Lovecraft’s and similar author’s works. It’s simply no coincidence that the lines match up with this short story.

    • @Brokentwobutton

What's referred to as "The Emerald Tablet" in Hermetica is, as would be expected, talking about Alchemy and astrology. Its mentioned over 1,000 years ago but doesn't have anything to do with cosmic horror themes.
People have taken Lovecraftian stories and written stories or grimmoires that they've sold or popularized without indicating they're fictional. That's why a bunch of schizophrenics think lizard people from the center of the earth replaced politicians...

A truly impressive reading of a really compelling tale! The artwork is especially apt and haunting :D
The forces at work in Charmer's chamber seem derived from those on display in The Dreams in the Witch House; specifically in the strangely angled walls of Keziah Mason's apartment. I love it when other authors exercise a thoughtful application of the principles HP seemed to lay out in some of his works. Bloch's use of shoggoths was similar in that respect. I had been yearning for more shoggoth action since I first read the Mountains of Madness in school years ago, and to see them 'pray' and participate in rituals was splendidly unexpected.
Likewise, a conception of beings whose existence is defined in the kaleidoscopic patterns beyond time is something I never would have thought to explore, but Long's take here was really thrilling and coherently rendered despite the baffling subject matter.
Thanks for all your hard work on these collections!

I hope they soon will be. There are so much great stories still to be discovered and read. I am Dutch and I speak German and English, but no French. Though I saw a couple of Cthulhu Myth stories in French I would love to hear in English. "The house on Curwen street" and "The Sandwin pact" by August Derleth. Even the titles are thrilling. I think they are in the public domain. All the best with your channel and greetings from Holland.

Indeed, there's quite the catalog of works out there. In suggesting Derleth's The House on Curwen Street, I think the entire Trail of Cthulhu series would make for interesting listening. I'll add that as a request to our production list, provided it is in the public domain. Some of Derleth's works are not.
I may in fact be visiting Holland in the coming years, which will be a first for me. It looks like a beautiful country. Thanks again Roland!
