Cinestill 50D is a colour-negative motion picture film stock for still photography, adapted from Kodak Vision 3 film but with remjet removed so it’s ready for use straight away in your still camera and can be developed in C-41 chemistry.
This emulsion is of an incredible quality - super fine grain and detail. It also has a fantastic exposure latitude, especially for a colour film. From a technical standpoint you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better colour film.
HOWEVER this quality comes with a caveat. Cinestill 50D is a specialist colour film, and it is therefore designed to accurately reflect the image in front of it. So it’s not going to add its own vibrancy or make specific colours pop or anything like that.
The D stands for Daylight - if you remember back to our Rollei Infrared video and the colour spectrum - you might recall that there is a range of light wavelengths from red to yellow, orange, green, blue, violet.
This is balanced for 5500K which puts it in that green/blue area. So when you shoot it in this range, it will give amazing true-to-life colours. Honestly, mind-blowing replication of what you can see.
Please note: all images used in the video remain (c) of the credited artist. For the corresponding specific Cinestill 50D review by the photographer and any further details about their work please head to the product page:

Been looking forward to this one. Couldn’t wait so took it out in the sun at the weekend, hoping I got some good results!

    Thank!
    Very informative!
This facinates me, you take a cine stock and adapt it for the masses with the huge asterisks in the bottom of the page that it requires some knowledge from you to get good results and as with the 800t you have a accept the haliation effect where the parts of the highlights can turn red!
Hopefully people take the time to read up and inform themselves and not turn into missinformed trolls that just complain when reviewing the film in the shop they got it from!

All part of the learning process! And I'm always grateful when people share results as part of their reviews that didn't quite turn out right, as well as those that were brilliant - as it helps us all 😄
Special shout-out to Denise for doing exactly that with the portraits featured in this video!

I've just ordered a roll from you to cut down to 9.2mm and shoot in a Minox subminiature camera. I'll share my results with you.

Quick tip: use flash with this film indoors and you won’t need a colour correction filter as the flash is daylight balanced (or close enough)

What’s it like if rated at, say 100, and pushed in processing?

Ooh not sure - haven't tried it myself like that. Have a go and let us know! 😅

I thought the filter was used to shoot a tungsten balanced film outside not indoors. I shot some Super 8 vision 3 50d indoors without a filter and it was grand. Though it was by the window

    • @AnalogueWonderland
      @AnalogueWonderland  3 роки тому

Yes exactly - you'll need a filter for tungsten outside because it's the same but 'opposite' issue where you need to nudge the colour spectrum the other way 😊
