I would choose the Z2 here is why: 1-Better build quality 2-Better camera 3- water and dust proof up to 1.5 meters 4-looks better (my opinion) 5-Better speakers 6-More ram 7-Larger battery
Nenad Kosović best reason ever :D nah ... i don't want to sound like a fanboy ^^ i simply don't like Samsung as a whole anymore ... i was really happy with the S2, to be honest, but those times are gone ... the worst "feature" of nearly all Samsung products is the "feature overload" you're getting with those ... and it's not only smartphones, this also is an issue with bluray players or TVs and it's getting really annoying at times ^^ so Z2 all the way!
Sony just doesn't have what it takes to compete with other smart phone manufacturers, they neither have the right marketing strategy or quality. While Samsung and HTC for example released their phones, it was set out globally on all carriers right away. While Sony has barely touched the market, and even then, with carrier exclusives. Xperia released the Z1, and now the Z2, however the Z1 should have been the Z2. That's not an upgrade, all Sony did was fix the problems with Z1 and call it an upgraded Z2. If you ask me that's really unfair for customers, especially with the price tag on these phones. Now Sony is deciding that they want to upgrade their flagship phone every 6 months, so that means Xperia owners fill feel ripped off and outdated very often. I was going to get Sony, but because of their continuous bad moves, ill stay clear from them until they really pull they act together.
Michel honoré Right, because a vastly better and bigger screen isn't a difference. Neither is more ram or a stronger processor, better sound, camera and battery. Yep, no difference at all.
Why add those things needed? First off: Sony has always included water resistance, secondly why add something like a fingerprint scanner (or a thousand useless software additions or a heart rate sensor *coughsamsungcough*) when they aren't implemented correctly? Something like HTC's or Samsung's fingerprint scanner is just a half-arsed takes on Apple's scanner. If it doesn't work properly then it really shouldn't be added. You shouldn't add something just for the sake of adding it.
Arch He fell for the marketing gag of "waterproofness" and the fingerprint sensor :D It worked for that guy :D Sony always had their Z series waterproof without adding a stupid fingerprint sensor, he didn't see that point. Samsung just added that shit to increase sellings^^ Smart people see that but that Michel guy has just shown us on which side of the river he is ruddering. Little hint for Michel: It's not the smart one you're on. There are small improvements in the Z2 compared to the Z1, but why changing EVERYTHING of something when it is already good? When it is good and you change it all, you may make it bad so keep it good and just change little things which were not as good as expected.
No mention of the Sony's noise cancellation and digital audio out hardware? Or stereo microphone accessory? S5 is a lovely phone but if you're into music the Z2 has the edge?
If you're into music, you wouldn't listen to music through the phone's speakers. You would invest in a portable DAC and AMP and some descent iems (Not beats). Also, an aftermarket app for music would be a better choice.
***** that review is odd, it doesn't mention the noise cancelling headphones so I wonder if they were using them. I haven't noticed any of the distortion they talk about when using the noise cancelling headphones. Sounds really is amazing using them and far better than any other player.
I know I have a Z1, so Z2 for me! The S5 is still indeed a great phone and most people will only realize it once they get a hands-on experience on it. Anyway, waiting for the Z2 Table review!
Z2. The extra Gb of RAM will make quite the difference in the near future. Everything is getting resource hungry and if you want the phone to run more than one task at the time you will need the extra memory. Plus Sony's style is better(I am a Galaxy S3 owner since it came out)
If anyone wants an awesome music experience, Xperia Z2 is probably the phone to get, as it comes with premium headphones, and in built noise cancellation - just check out the android authority feature video specifically on these things
S5 is overall the best right now. The Z2 is not far behind at all. And as good as it is some of the S5's advantages are not enough to outweigh someone who might prefer the Z2 or some of it's advantages. I think these are about the two best phones out right now. Though the Note 3 will still hold some lead over the Z2 in some aspects. However. Non the less when it comes to complete facts the S5 is a little ahead. 1. It currently has the world's best display. This was tested by displaymate. www.displaymate.com/Galaxy_S5_ShootOut_1.htm It can produce the most colors and saturation if you like that. But in Movie Mode it now even has the same color accuracy as LCD. But still has true blacks, better white balance, best contrast, and some of the best viewing angles. It even can reach up to 700nits brightness when in auto brightness. Uniquely the display can also be turned all the way down to 2nits. Where as I believe in comparison the M8 cannot be set below 16nits. 2. It has the better camera of the two. In fact only the cameras of the 1020, 8o8, and possibly the Zoom can do better. So around 3rd or 4th in all mobiles when it comes to camera. Though the Z2 does have a slight advantage with OIS it does not claim a win. Plus the S5 has phase detection auto focus in 0.3 seconds. And brought first Real Time HDR mode in phones. Most cameras if any at all do not even have that. You can see the HDR effect in photos or videos in real time without having to take the picture/video. Plus the Isocell improves the way it handles things even in bright situations. 3. While the S5's water proofing is one level below the Z2, it's dust tightness is one level higher....Really not sure how that works...However. Samsung did this in less water proof models, in a slimmer body, was able to retain a removable battery and back cover, and World's first for an Amoled phone. So there is more work and use with Samsung's. 4, Design wise. Some people may like the glass build better. Some might like the S5's better. It's preference. However Poly Carbonate has some durability and practicality advantages here. Samsung's is thinner and has a removable battery. And plastic holds up over drops better as well. Plus especially for prolonged on handed use the S5 is more comfortable by design and material. The soft touch back actually feels very nice in hand. Way nicer than I expected. 5. Software. While Sony's may look prettier to most. I think so too. Touchwiz offers much more and does so by taking up less space. 6. Samsung uses the slightly stronger AC version of the S801 where Sony used the AB version. 7. Samsung is much better known for it's update record. Especially lately. They are among the top of all Android OEMS. Even the S3 is about to get Kitkat where as many 2013 flagships took a while, are still waiting, or might not get it. Some were still waiting for 4.3 which the S3 has already. And the S3 is a 2012 flagship. 8. The S5 has somewhat better battery life despite the X2 having a larger battery. And the S5's is removable. Plus the S5 not only has power saving mode, but a new Ultra Power Saving Mode which will basically change to a black and white screen to take advantage of Amoled's power saving and limit the resource of the system. 9. That nifty download booster Joshua talked about is quite a nice touch too. Adds into the list of first in mobile the S5 has brought. 10. Speaking of that list. Download booster, Heart rate monitor, phase detection auto focus, Isocell tech, Real Time HDR, truly accurate display, and that's all that comes to mind right now :) Now I will say for instance Samsung not including the 3GB ram chip and sticking with the 2GB one came as a major surprise and slight disadvantage. They have had 3Gb chips for a while and are almost ready to bring out 4GB chips. And most phones using a 3Gb ram chip "like Z2" got it from Samsung. I was actually hoping for front stereo speakers in the S5 myself. The Omnia HD back in 2009 had some of the best stereo speakers on a mobile for a while. So Samsung can definitely do it. I would expect that at this point the Note 4 should and almost for sure S6 will.
You were wrong on the processor models. They sport the same model but the S5 is clocked at .2ghz higher, while the Z2 has one more gig of ram than the S5
***** Not true. It's not Verizon's apps causing this issue. Verizon simply had the most number of issues, which would make sense as they're the largest carrier in the US. They were obligated to mention they had so many issues with the S5. However, go to any Android phone forum and you'll see reports of faulty cameras, restarts, and overheating on all of the carriers. It's a Samsung issue, not a Verizon issue. Even samsung has admitted there is a fault with the camera www.theverge.com/2014/4/25/5653192/samsung-confirms-fatal-galaxy-s5-camera-problem
I like the word you said in the of the video: "No matter which one you choose, it just a matter of what tools are available will help you better." That is what I always told the others who asked me for help to choose. I done a lot of research for each phone which include iPhone, HTC, Sony, Samsung, Lenovo, Nokia and HuaWei, knowing what are the pros and cons for each phone, then only decided which is suitable for me (or my friend's needs). The one you feel great doesn't mean is feel great to others too.
Please give this comment thumbs up if you want a versus of this 2 phones into a water test, putting both of them inside a water tank, and a versus of a crash test. Also sowing the results of the antutu benchmark.
xperia z2: -better screen -more ram (smoother performance) -software isnt ugly and clunky -build quality and general design is much much better Since I like the software to be fast and pretty I prefer the z2 especially since with the s5 id be spending £500 for plastic phone
I like the design of TouchWiz but after 1 year it will lag. My Galaxy S3 was at the beginning super fast but after 1 year of software updates it lags. So I take the minimalistic software design of the Z2 and will enjoy a smooth experience even in 1 year!
Jasper Teo I had the Xperia T, Xperia Z and now the Z1 and havent experienced lag on any of them, my bro has the S3 and my dad the S4 and yup...they get laggy after some months, my dad traded the S4 for my Z when I upgraded to Z1 and he's quiet happy. Simply and effective UI is a major plus in lag-proof
Rui Filipe Bacelar de Oliveira Exactly. And Samsung is trying to "fix" the lag issues by implementing a slightly higher clocked processor than its competitors.
I'd get the S5 because the Xperia Z line are just so awkward to hold... Sure it looks a bit better, but there's a lot more to design than just the way something looks.
I replace my phone every two years, so that's enough life for me. Besides they're both ip67 certified, so there's a good chance they'll last longer than their competitors. A removable battery is always helpful as well.
I'm not going to be showering or swimming with my phone, I just don't want to be too cautious in rain or think that it's done for if I accidentally drop it in water. I'm probably going to end up getting the next Note.
***** That's funny, I have a Sony camera, a tv and a playstation that have all broke down on me. So no company is perfect. I do like the Z2 but still gun shy to have yet another Sony product crapout on me.
***** I'm not too sure if I would say that it's more value for money, but the phablet industry is something that Samsung seem to have a better idea on how to do than anyone else.
***** I think it's only people like us who watch these videos who are in favour of massive changes. Samsung's mostly relying on return buyers so it makes sense for them not to alienate customers too much.
I have the z2 from Taiwan and it works great on att. Upgraded from my HTC m7 and I love the Sony quality with a world class camera. No complaints here. Definitely my choice for phone of the year so far!
Three reasons why I would go for the s5. 1.best mobile display 2.Overall better camera, one of the best in mobile phones. 3.Touchwiz, I know ima get hate for this. But I actually use some Samsung apps to get me through the day.not all of them because they don't all work so well. Owner of a GS4.
I keep alternating b/w sony and samsung all the time... none of the phone really is totally satisfactory.. there's always a better one out in the market soon... I had xperia mini, then galaxy s2, then xperia zr..... All were good...although I feel sony is more durable and remains in better condition for longer period, especially the battery... generally the music is good on sony... and sony battery lasts like ever on music. I'd like to buy a next phone who ever promises more than a day of battery with heavy usage, browsing, movies and music. And Bangalore rain being notorious like that of London.. I feel more confident going out in rains with a Sony in my pocket.
cybertec69 Well,i'm using ios, which i feel in lack of freedom from being an open source like android.I have to confess that its too much hustle in transferring the data, moreover it's basic function[BT] does not even work/compatible with other products.Hopefully,i will switch to android in the near future. As this video is about 2 'A' phones,I would go for SONY,as it not only looks nice but powerful as well runs on latest software.Their decent camera, which they borrowed it from their handy cam's technology is quite amazing...... Personally,i think that gesture play[Samsung] is not quite useful,as,still we need to use both hands to use it unless we put on some surface..... Furthermore,i would like to see SONY to put some innovations in their phones likewise, solar panels, which could be useful to enhance battery life while keeping the device size smaller and lighter....etc My best wishes are with SONY:) (*_*)
3 reasons I would get the S5. Split screen (I REALLY love that feature on my S3), Camera, and Replaceable battery. My S3 I stuck a 4200 mAh battery in it, I can use it within 10 hours. If I can get a Nexus 6, with these 3 features and microSD card slot I would totally go for that. I love the Nexus 5 we have at work, so fast, and the screen looks so amazing!
Z1 is better choice for. The only selling point for s5 is all gimmicky features they put in there phone. Also you mentioned the video that touch wiz was good but then it gets slow after a couple of months. I can totally agree with that. First few months I had s3 touch wiz was good and then later I bought nexus 4 which was 2x better and snapper. It's even better than my friends s4.
Samsung is like that new carnival ride that you're dying to try but it gets boring pretty quickly while Sony is the more traditional attraction but still keeps people coming back for more because it has a lot more to offer than just cheap thrills.
I am using the S5 since one month and I'm absolutely loving it. I don't think any other android phone stands a chance, maybe at least for the next 1 year.
such an exceptional phone to have so surreal Xperia Z2!! imnot impressed with phones that has detachable batteries, intact and compact phone like Xperia are way durable to last for many conditions, if the battery is your issue why not buy a powerbank?! also why would i need an over saturated screen and cartoonish UI? its a crap! as they say Simplicity is the best beauty. All the way to the top SONY!!
As always AA, thank you for your informative videos. :) Definitley an S5 girl, for the well rounded experience and feature packed phone. Liking th overall ease of use. Its just a plain joy to use and explore! Keep up the great work!
I would certainly choose Z2 over the S5, because it has 3GB of RAM compared to 2GB of S5. Besides, TouchWiz is far too much RAM-demanding becaue of all of the bloatware that Samsung adds to it. So my guess is that like with the S3, future OS updates will make the S5 slugish (due to low memory) while the Z2 with its 3GB continue to fly like a rocket
Charles Schleich Pair that with the Titan Z GPU and we have something really great! Because that's how it works. We might as well stick a 3.5 inch drive in there while we're at it.
Z2 Because the stereo audio and natural colors camera Better water resist though.. Im afraid with samsung S5 because you know that a water resistant phone need a non removable like sony because rated rr try to test S5 and let it fall in to the water about 3 sec and the water get inside the phone bad news
Aditya widiantara Ok? I wish people like you would actually understand the differences in displays and what they do before just blurting things out like that. 'The display by default is saturated. However it has many advantages. It also has different selectable modes. Movie Mode being the accurate one. In fact it has a more accurate white balance and close to the same level of color accuracy. While still keeping advantages like true blacks, better contrast, and even lighting. LCD has uneven lighting and bright spots. And did you know that LCD is not truly accurate either? Their colors in general are just less saturated. Plus they show fake blacks and washy contrast. And the thing with Sony's Triluminos displays is that they have a wider color gamma and slightly more saturated than normal LCD.
Who the 'duck' carries a additional battery on the go? A charger inside the bag, a car charger sure, but not a single person I know carries a additional battery.
I have an S4, and I'm pretty much sold on getting a Z2, better build, UI, etc. The only thing I'm worried about is the size, how big is the Z2? Is it comfortable for day to day use?!
***** I really like your reviews. You are always way more collective and free of bias in comparison to many others. Thank you. Both these devices are indeed some of the best there is to offer. Edit: Though the Samsung Galaxy S4 active had the IP67 rating as well.
So because both use a cheap recyclable material...But Samsung uses the more durable, practical, thinner, ergonomic and comfortable to use, plus a better grip.. Means even though it's overall better....It's worse because you like the way the glass looks better? And even though the S5 has not only all that, but overall more advanced in technology like camera, software, battery, and display... No one should chose it until Samsung makes the devices heavier, bulkier, less durable, less easy and comfortable to use in one hand and for longer time periods, and make it thicker, while taking away removable battery?
darkangelss6sic6 Samsung over heating plastic phones just like a toy to me, I have a Sony Z Ultra and I love the solid feel to the phone it feels well made. I mean its like buying a German car being Sony and Samsung being a Japanese car.. The build quality lacks in my view. Having the phone sealed again gives a feeling of well built, Samsung trend of taking the back off again feels tacky and cheap.. Why have Samsung tired to copy the water proofing like Sony? Because they now woke up and knew Sony phones are well built and we need to improve in that area. I love my phone and my last 2 phones were the Samsung note 1 and then Samsung galaxy mega 6.3.. In the end its what u like.. I love the glass and metal feel..
Daanish Hussain You just ignored the realistic points to again contradict the facts with your own preferences. Just because you like glass better does not make it better. We all have our preferences and likes. However the facts are that glass is no less a cheap recyclable material. And not only that but it's heavier, bulkier, has less grip, is not as ergonomic or comfortable "especially compared to the very nice feel of the soft touch S5", and is less durable. What's better and what's your preference are not the same. Just because you like glass does not mean it's build quality is better. The S5 has a very high quality build. And the ONLY advantage the glass has is that some people like you prefer the way it looks and maybe how it feels. In terms of actually durability and usefulness the Poly Carbonate which is high grade premium plastic has many more advantages. Having the phone closed off restricting you access gives it more premium feel??? Having something that is more durable, more comfortable, thinner, and can be easily replaced while still being able to make it water proof to me would deem it took more work to do and is better I would think. You hear something new every day. In many years nobody ever said this to me before. Why did Sony and all others copy HD playback and recording from Samsung? Or Higher resolution cameras? How about the Samsung memory chips and ram Chips Sony, HTC, Apple, and at least 70% of the world's phones use? And where does using the feature of water proofing mean the same thing as build quality in regards to which material you like better????/ That does not even make logical sense? And you even contradict yourself with that one because in that sense Samsung would have switched to glass.
darkangelss6sic6 I liked the way you did not mention anything about the Sony's aluminium body which also solid and better built the the Samsung phones, and again adds to the better all around build quality of the Sony product. I don't still understand ur point and better grip with S5 have u held a Z2?? I have my brother got his pre order last week and guy who converted from Samsung after seeing my phone.. It has good grip due to this rubber edges so ur hands don't slip off.. The phone looks and feels like an expensive phone.. Branding as premium plastic lol its still plastic that's my point.. Its seems like the back of the 1st gen Nexus 7 lol
Daanish Hussain Ok? I actually did bring up aluminum at some point too. Because it is also a less durable material that is also no less a cheap recyclable material. Again. You keep just ignoring facts to repeat yourself about replacing facts with your own personal preferences. You liking glass better does not factual make it better or better built. It means you like it better. Plain and simple. I like how you keep negating the fact about the actual durability and practical use. Yes I have held them. What I mean is that overall the thicker larger more box like glass is less ergonomic, less comfortable after a while, and more slippery. Where as the back piece of the S5 is a more durable material which also has better grip. And it's a perforated soft touch. In hand and to touch it feels very nice. Much better than I had expected. And is also thinner. Which all play into each other. Branding as premium glass/aluminum does not change the fact that it's still a less durable, less comfortable, cheap recyclable material. That's my point. I don't care which you like better. I love that there is so many good options. And the Z2 indeed is quite an amazing device. But your view of "I like glass better for it's look because I deem it a more premium material" and "Because of how I personally feels means that it's automatically built better too" is what I have issues with. Especially when you add in misconceptions and contradict the actual facts of the situation. Samsung puts more emphasis on how things actually hold up, feel, and work while still putting some focus on aesthetics. Where as most others are putting looks as a more top priority.
I really like the Xperia but the Galaxy seems to be a tad more advanced. But I need help picking a phone. I love the Z2 cause it looks hot and that's mainly why but I also like the Galaxy because I feel like it better or something you know?
You wouldn't know until you try.. Whenever ever i look around me.. people are using Samsung.. So i feel proud of my Sony Z1.. It's just the ultimate elegency.. In deed.. Never Poring.. Plus.. You see Toyota Corolla and Nissan sunny in every corner every day.. But how many times in a lifetime you may be lucky to drive a Ferrari rather than just seeing it..! Bottom line.. If you choose to be common.. Go Samsung.. Or else.. SONY!!!
Your so right I like to think of myself one of a kind. And you know every now and then it would be cool to have someone looking at your phone and thinking to them selves saying "that's not an IPhone nor a Galaxy????? What is that" It also would be nice for someone to compliment you on how good your phone looks and stuff. So yeah, you are right. Thanks a lot!!!!! :D
Z2 for me because of the elegant design and premium material it used. It maintained its minimalist Ui, top camera performance and dual speakers plus noise cancelling headset. Additionally, it is waterproof so no worries if you dive with it underwater everyday.
Amoled has issues. Like blue pixel burn in. Add that to the over saturation of the colours and it looks like a cartoon pretty much all the time. If you've not seen the active colour LED in action then just wait. It's impressive. Samsung look like they've run out of ideas.
JCiello I can almost guarantee you wont, The only things people tend to use, is the camera. thats it lol...... I let people borrow my note 2, and when they returned it they said they only used the camera. and played games/youtube. all those features are gimmicks in the s5. Next phone i get will be a iphone, im done with glitchy, gunky bloated android, and its nonsense. Iphone has more apps to, better ones, and less crappy nonsense like android has. I've been a android guy for years, but when i HOld an iphone, its so stable, fast, and refined that I just love that about it, Its a device that can be counted on.
JCiello the i phones design is overrated, but its os there is no question, is the most stable of the operating systems. Though it lacks the ability to customize, which is why its stable id assume.
xAvitaLT Someone who appreciates a good regional radio channel, but doesnt want to stream it to save up traffic volume for more important things. I am limited to 1GB traffic per month on my phone.
xAvitaLT Mine is 64GB(in my new z3 compact with FM radio ^^) and its full off awesome music, but i dont want to select all the content myself. Sometimes i want to listen to some interviews, the news segments, the political commentary, the jazz hour where i get good jazz although i dont know anything about it and so on. It helps me to get new influences and hear new artists or genres. And its presented by people i care about.
Well depends on the country, because here in Lithuania nothing good plays on the radio and my car has an AUX so I just always listen to my music while I drive.
lol Sony...washed out screen, a UI that looks like it's from 1995 (just like PS4) etc. Surprised they even still make phones as only Japanese buy Sony products, and that's out of racism against other countries. I read Z2 isn't even getting a USA launch. Not surprised, why bother, nobody buys Sony phones outside Japan.
How's that screen washed out? Did you use a Z2 before? You can't judge the screen quality of the phone by watching it from your screen. From what i see the screen doesn't looks washed out, it looks more realistic compared to the colours of a oled display. And it's UI is simplistic which makes it look clean and this way the ROM will not take too much space in your phone because all those customisations need space. Just because the USA doesn't get a launch doesn't mean nobody buys sony phones outside of Japan. Is the USA the only country that sells mobile phones? There are a lot of countries out there that sell Sony's phones please get your facts right before criticising the Japanese people. You're the one that's racist.
What drugs are you on!? Firs off troll. The Z2's screen is a huge improvement over the past. While previous ones had some more issues. Al though in normal conditions it was still a great display. And I'm sure it will only get much better as it's still a newer and evolving technology. The UI is actually in many people's opinions one of the most pleasing to the eyes. What is it with everyone having to lie and bash one another over phones???? Seriously? What more does everyone have to do with their lives if all they can do is go around trolling and bashing.
Jasper Teo Exactly. Only a couple off points here. The Amoled is more saturated by default. However in Movie Mode has the same color accuracy now as LCD. And the software of the S5 takes up less space than the Z2. Though I think Time scape looks prettier.
darkangelss6sic6 Yeah exactly, i just can't take it when people criticise brands and favour the one they like without finding out more and just coming out with their own facts. But i'm pretty sure the Xperia UI takes lesser space than TouchWiz (has many many apps/stuff/widgets Samsung has added)... If i'm wrong then never mind :)
My main problem is the camera. I like the fact that the Z2 has the side button for easy photo taking access, including when underwater so you can capture those unmistakable moments. But the S5 does not and they say its not very touch responsive when in contact with water. And really, underwater photos is an awesome feature that i love personally. I don't particularly trust the Galaxy underwater, no matter how many proof videos I've seen. But i'll probably get used to it. But i don't like the fact that the Z2 does not have a removable phone. Like when it stuffs up and all you wanna do is take the battery out, put it back in and restart it.
I always like your video, especially these vesus videos. I like better when i use more text for comparing them, I would appreciate if u back doing more of that.
I used Sony S, Ultra z and now Z1, even long time back in th 90's.. I believe that i am a Sony loyal.. I am happy with the Z1 for now.. And i dont see a big of a thing to upgrade to Z2 this year.. Ll just wait for Sony to blow me with something more conventional.. About the S5.. I would just say.. What ever!!!
I would choose the Z2 here is why:
1-Better build quality
2-Better camera
3- water and dust proof up to 1.5 meters
4-looks better (my opinion)
5-Better speakers
6-More ram
7-Larger battery
8 - is not Sam(e)sung ;)
Nenad Kosović best reason ever :D
nah ... i don't want to sound like a fanboy ^^ i simply don't like Samsung as a whole anymore ... i was really happy with the S2, to be honest, but those times are gone ... the worst "feature" of nearly all Samsung products is the "feature overload" you're getting with those ... and it's not only smartphones, this also is an issue with bluray players or TVs and it's getting really annoying at times ^^
so Z2 all the way!
I really am a Sony fan but you have to admit that the colors on the s5 camera are better
I will blindly choose Sony over Samsung, as Sony do wht he best they do whereas Samsung do wht the others do best
*Sony Xperia Z2 vs Samsung Galaxy S5*

Which one is better?
By *****
Sony Xperia Z2.
z2
Z2
S5
Danaya Smith what??????????
I changed from the note 2 to a xperia z2 because Samsung phones feel like children's toys in the hand. The new s5's UI also looks child friendly
I need Z2 badly! :O
Arch
Lol
Who says it doesn't work? It works *perfectly* fine!
Michel honoré I don't even own Z, ZL nor Z1 sadly. And Z2 is much better than Z in many ways.
Get z2 trust me. best choice I've made in 2014
The z2 not even out yet.....fucking liar
umm??

Thnx for sharing review, I am going to move from Z to Z2. But wht is d results of battery, I mean it drain or its better than ever
DAWINDER SINGH www.techradar.com/us/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/sony-xperia-z2-1226987/review/4
No mention of the Sony's noise cancellation and digital audio out hardware? Or stereo microphone accessory? S5 is a lovely phone but if you're into music the Z2 has the edge?
agree
If you're into music, you wouldn't listen to music through the phone's speakers. You would invest in a portable DAC and AMP and some descent iems (Not beats). Also, an aftermarket app for music would be a better choice.
***** that review is odd, it doesn't mention the noise cancelling headphones so I wonder if they were using them. I haven't noticed any of the distortion they talk about when using the noise cancelling headphones. Sounds really is amazing using them and far better than any other player.
@
I think Xperia Z2 is better than the Galaxy S5
It is indeed
No its not!..S5 is way superior and so is tge m8 this phone is 4th even behind the iPhone which it looks a lot like just bigger!..Outdated design.
and sony support is crap
I know I have a Z1, so Z2 for me! The S5 is still indeed a great phone and most people will only realize it once they get a hands-on experience on it.
Anyway, waiting for the Z2 Table review!
Got a Z2 over the S5, and I don't regret my choice. I would have gotten the M8 even if I didnt get the Z2.
Z2. The extra Gb of RAM will make quite the difference in the near future. Everything is getting resource hungry and if you want the phone to run more than one task at the time you will need the extra memory. Plus Sony's style is better(I am a Galaxy S3 owner since it came out)
Totally agree. Samsung just brought out a phone to contend with the Z1! At least in spec anyway.
03:10 "The color jump out of the phone and... Punch you in the face" LOL XD
Xperia Z2!! I can't wait to get it it just need to be launched!
Why are people asking Android Authority to respond and help them decide on a phone?
THAT'S THE POINT OF THE VIDEO.
SONY XPERIA Z2!!!!!! RULES !!!!!!
AGREE!!!!
I agree bro
Oppo Find 7 > Sony Xperia Z2 > HTC One M8 > Samsung Galaxy S5
you forgot the soon to be LG G3 infront of all of them
Masterincommander I didn't, it's not announced yet.
***** mid not late
***** In my opinion the best phone is "vivo xplay 3s" what an awesome phone!!
Xperia z2 > Galaxy S5 > Htc One M8 > Oppo find 7
I Dont like chinese phones so its last for me!!!
If anyone wants an awesome music experience, Xperia Z2 is probably the phone to get, as it comes with premium headphones, and in built noise cancellation - just check out the android authority feature video specifically on these things
Xperia z2 for sure is the better device!
Z2>rest. end of story.
I bought the z2 because it's made of aluminium, not plastic.
Only the frame made of Aluminium, rest is glass.. I find glass gives more premium look than both aluminum and plastic ;)
The Z2 rules anyway.
Z2 is good even after three years.
Thanks Sony for the quality.
This was tested by displaymate.
www.displaymate.com/Galaxy_S5_ShootOut_1.htm
It can produce the most colors and saturation if you like that.
Download booster, Heart rate monitor, phase detection auto focus, Isocell tech, Real Time HDR, truly accurate display, and that's all that comes to mind right now :)
Now I will say for instance Samsung not including the 3GB ram chip and sticking with the 2GB one came as a major surprise and slight disadvantage.
The Z2's camera was voted best camera
The tempered glass on the Z2 is supposed to be twice as strong as the tempered glass on the Z1, and judging from drop tests the Z1 fared well.
The Z2's higher waterproof certification includes the same dustproof certification as the S5.
Samsung's OS takes up more than 5GB of storage.
You were wrong on the processor models. They sport the same model but the S5 is clocked at .2ghz higher, while the Z2 has one more gig of ram than the S5
This guy is the best reviewer ever! Respect for the work!
but u didn't mention defocus capability of Z2. You can have shallow depth of field like DSLR camera. Am I the only one that's excited about it?
You talk about the Z2 being less kind to one handed use yet have a video of the S5 getting a two hand treatment and the Z2 being used in one.
I think the S5 camera is the one to beat for android this year
When it's not dead and being recalled :P
thepromman indeed my s5 is awesome when working.
search for Oppo Find 7 camera
thepromman
That's Verizon exclusive problem as no other flagships for other service providers are having this issue....
Even samsung has admitted there is a fault with the camera
www.theverge.com/2014/4/25/5653192/samsung-confirms-fatal-galaxy-s5-camera-problem
The Z2 looks beautiful
Sony Xperia Z2 feels Premium and Stylish better than Samsung Galaxy S5, I am disappointed with what Samsung did to their S5 .
Joshua, your reviews are gold :)
damn all people says z2 wins ... YEAH Z2 and M8 BEST IN 2014
I like the word you said in the of the video: "No matter which one you choose, it just a matter of what tools are available will help you better."
That is what I always told the others who asked me for help to choose.
Im selling my iphone 📲 5 tomorrow abd taking a z2 thats y im here
Galaxy S5 HANDS DOWN! well in my opinion
xperia z2:
-better screen
-more ram (smoother performance)
-software isnt ugly and clunky
-build quality and general design is much much better
Since I like the software to be fast and pretty I prefer the z2 especially since with the s5 id be spending £500 for plastic phone
I like the design of TouchWiz but after 1 year it will lag. My Galaxy S3 was at the beginning super fast but after 1 year of software updates it lags. So I take the minimalistic software design of the Z2 and will enjoy a smooth experience even in 1 year!
Been using my Z for a year now and it still doesn't lag. Trust me the Z line is the best that they've released so far.
Alex Rodriguez Awe...That's cute...You run around all over the page comment to comment to pretend you know something.
I'm pretty sure that that is true and I thought the argument ended 4 days ago.
Much better video than the review video for Xperia Z2. A lot more in depth!
Z2 is better but don't think it could win in the sales battle...against s5..
I dont care about trends, I pick quality, style and simplicity, other people dumbness doesnt bother me.
Three reasons why I would go for the s5.
1.best mobile display
2.Overall better camera, one of the best in mobile phones.
Best comparison till now!!
#youtube #android #galaxys5 #xperiaz2
I picked iphone after using these. Best decision.
your joking right??
I am sure this person is joking.
So why are you here, go to your isheep forums and let us android enthusiasts enjoy these reviews.
cybertec69 Well,i'm using ios, which i feel in lack of freedom from being an open source like android.I have to confess that its too much hustle in transferring the data, moreover it's basic function[BT] does not even work/compatible with other products.Hopefully,i will switch to android in the near future.
Furthermore,i would like to see SONY to put some innovations in their phones likewise, solar panels, which could be useful to enhance battery life while keeping the device size smaller and lighter....etc
My best wishes are with SONY:) (*_*)
troll level: god
3 reasons I would get the S5. Split screen (I REALLY love that feature on my S3), Camera, and Replaceable battery. My S3 I stuck a 4200 mAh battery in it, I can use it within 10 hours. If I can get a Nexus 6, with these 3 features and microSD card slot I would totally go for that. I love the Nexus 5 we have at work, so fast, and the screen looks so amazing!
Xperia Z2
Hello love your channel!! I had heard that the Z2 could be coming to Verizon? Have you any information on that? Thanks! Cheers!
Jon
S5 suxx.. HTC One M8 vs Sony Xperia Z2 pls..
Sony z2 wins it hands down
Samsung is like that new carnival ride that you're dying to try but it gets boring pretty quickly while Sony is the more traditional attraction but still keeps people coming back for more because it has a lot more to offer than just cheap thrills.
Glory to Sony ;)
Yes
I am using the S5 since one month and I'm absolutely loving it. I don't think any other android phone stands a chance, maybe at least for the next 1 year.
such an exceptional phone to have so surreal Xperia Z2!!
imnot impressed with phones that has detachable batteries, intact and compact phone like Xperia are way durable to last for many conditions, if the battery is your issue why not buy a powerbank?! also why would i need an over saturated screen and cartoonish UI? its a crap! as they say Simplicity is the best beauty. All the way to the top SONY!!
Simplicity is boring.
As always AA, thank you for your informative videos. :)
Definitley an S5 girl, for the well rounded experience and feature packed phone.
Liking th overall ease of use.
Its just a plain joy to use and explore!
Keep up the great work!
S5 is a great phone. I agree that it is the most well rounded device.
Since a bought the Z2 Im Rlly happy! Z2 Is the Best Cuase it's Waterproof
I still don't get why sony would put a 20 MP camera on their device, when u can't even use all the features coming with camera at 20 MP!
I love how "black" for Samsung is never black. It's either a darkish blue or grey... on the back at least.
what if Sony added the Intel I7 processor to the Xperia Z3?
HOLY SH*T!!!. sony TAKE MY MONEY!!!
plus 6 gb Ram and 1 TB of storage...and how did Sony manage to make those things into a slim smartphone size...i dont know
GeneraL_LOL i'm assuming you know a lot about power consumption regarding intel processors.
Charles Schleich Pair that with the Titan Z GPU and we have something really great! Because that's how it works.
We might as well stick a 3.5 inch drive in there while we're at it.
TheLiquidPanda
and don't forget that titan z was 4 way SLI!!!
great and informative comparisons! thumbs up !!!!!!!
Z2 Because the stereo audio and natural colors camera
Better water resist though..
Im afraid with samsung S5 because you know that a water resistant phone need a non removable like sony because rated rr try to test S5 and let it fall in to the water about 3 sec and the water get inside the phone bad news
about the S5 i tried it under the water for more than 30 second while i'm taking video so it is good i think
Yeah 30 sec..
removable battery its so scary when you jump into the pool and the phone smahsed to the water
I choose S5 for best camera besides 1020 and 8o8, best display, and better ergonomics.
because oversaturated
Xperia Z2 for sure. It has 1GB more RAM. Xperia Z2 has better Camera. Samsung has a lot of Awesome features that would make it slower.
Who the 'duck' carries a additional battery on the go? A charger inside the bag, a car charger sure, but not a single person I know carries a additional battery.
Using the S5 and personally the best phone I've ever used. Definitely enjoy it compared to any other smartphone right now.
instead of buying of a spare battery you could just buy a power bank
Hey Josh..When are u doing d camera review for the z2..waiting for it?
z2 all the way.
I have an S4, and I'm pretty much sold on getting a Z2, better build, UI, etc. The only thing I'm worried about is the size, how big is the Z2? Is it comfortable for day to day use?!
Xperia Z2! Sony all the way...
***** I really like your reviews. You are always way more collective and free of bias in comparison to many others.
Thank you. Both these devices are indeed some of the best there is to offer.
Edit: Though the Samsung Galaxy S4 active had the IP67 rating as well.
No one should buy this plastic Samsung phones anymore I mean u want a premium device.. Sony is a boss phone.. Made of glass and metal..
Where as most others are putting looks as a more top priority.
z2 because its design is marvelous sleek smooth tu sabe i wanted the the z1 but got the sg3 in stead but not this time around z2 all the way
I really like the Xperia but the Galaxy seems to be a tad more advanced.
Or else.. SONY!!!
S5 perforated back gives you solid grip on phone in water. Plan to spend time at beach or swimming pool this summer?
Your so right I like to think of myself one of a kind. And you know every now and then it would be cool to have someone looking at your phone and thinking to them selves saying "that's not an IPhone nor a Galaxy????? What is that" It also would be nice for someone to compliment you on how good your phone looks and stuff. So yeah, you are right. Thanks a lot!!!!! :D
Personally, I'm psyched for the 2560 x 1440 version of the Oppo Find 7.
Cool.
which one would you prefer from them two? and why? Please it would help me a lot
S5 without a doubt
Z2 for me because of the elegant design and premium material it used. It maintained its minimalist Ui, top camera performance and dual speakers plus noise cancelling headset. Additionally, it is waterproof so no worries if you dive with it underwater everyday.
No amoled? Then not interested. S5 > Z2
Amoled has issues. Like blue pixel burn in. Add that to the over saturation of the colours and it looks like a cartoon pretty much all the time. If you've not seen the active colour LED in action then just wait. It's impressive. Samsung look like they've run out of ideas.
***** where did u see the colour measurements? I'd love to see that!
i prefer my colors as vivid as possible, i like the screen to pop when i look at it..
My point is to wait till u see the screen before u bin it.
From a Samsung user, I just bought Z2 a month ago. and yes, lovin' it.
Note 3... :)
Agreed
Mike Saleh ;)
note 3
Yes
switching from a note 3 for a Z2 lol
Nice comparison. Love the s5..Will get it for mom's birthday :).
z2 is the best
The S5 if you wanna be one of the common guys. The Z2 if you want a classy phone to get the job done when ever and wherever.
whats funny tho, Is i've never met anyone to use all of these features.
yeah, samsung does offer more features, but i don't know if i'm gonna use 'em
David Boggs take a look on the htc one M8
Anthony Ellis David Boggs i agree that the s5's features are gimmicks. But i think iphone is over rated. And i'm dying to get my hands on the m8
JCiello the i phones design is overrated, but its os there is no question, is the most stable of the operating systems. Though it lacks the ability to customize, which is why its stable id assume.
Done with the review
Done with the comparison
And it's now the DROP TEST for the
HTC M8 vs SGS5 vs SEZ2
Then it will decide which one is the real hero
Z2 is better
When does the Sony Z2 come out for US market? And how much is it unlocked?
Z2 vs m8 please bc s5 sux :P
Thank you for this great video but I want to change my phone to a waterproof phone and more durable so which one I should go with ????
No FM radio on the s5?? Ok then, byebye.
+DieFliegeinderSuppe Who uses radio on their phones now days?
xAvitaLT
Someone who appreciates a good regional radio channel, but doesnt want to stream it to save up traffic volume for more important things. I am limited to 1GB traffic per month on my phone.
Or just get a bigger SD card and listen to all the music you want (I got a 32 GB card)

Mine is 64GB(in my new z3 compact with FM radio ^^) and its full off awesome music, but i dont want to select all the content myself.
Nice review u are the best getting a new white xz2 on Monday:-D
lol Sony...washed out screen, a UI that looks like it's from 1995 (just like PS4) etc.
If i'm wrong then never mind :)
darkangelss6sic6 You mean "oversaturated"?
And Z2's SW takes less space compared to the Samsung bloat. ;)
s5 is a plasic shit with low battery. Z2 all the way
How would the S5 compare to the xperia Z3 does much change from this review?
I trying to decide between the two!!!
I'd pick the Z2 purely because the walkman player sounds better through (decent) headphones
I'm a "techy" so I've owned both of these devices! I loved my S5 but my Xperia became my daily driver for a reason. It's a killer phone.
well depends on what you prefer i tested both and S5 wins hands down imo... just overall better phone
Does your z2 heating up while playing heavy games and record 4k video?
Please let me know
