Wow, I remember doing a report back in 2013 about Vancouver, Canada and the increasing homeless population and the reason for them being homeless. Highest amount of homeless where drug addicts back then, wonder if its still the same now in 2021.
I've backpacked through California many times now... I'll never forget the first time I saw it, I was in awe of the lights, so many friendly people and some good hiking trails in CA. But this past year, my friend and I had bleach thrown on us near the synagogue in Venice while passing through. Some guy thought we were addicts. Well hopefully if people voting out the democratic "millionaires" that keep raising the property value and wanted to put a tax on gas. I used to work in 2 different psychiatric units, where we would care for lots and lots of homeless. Despite numerous homelessness services available in California, sooo many of these people refuse them and make a very conscious decision to live like this anyway (mainly so that they can freely continue to get high). When watching videos like these, and not being able to distinguish between the addicts or those who are actually destitute, it's hard for me to feel any sorrow unfortunately. Love the videos German!

Because there's only one trash hauler company now, that's monopolized the service. And the county and city to do with Los Angeles are SO incompetent, that most utilities barely do a minimum of anything. CA is the place of choice, for homeless people from other states and countries. Usually they were given some means of just showing up here. That form of human dumping has gone on for decades too. If you ask most of the homeless where they are from, it's from anywhere but Los Angeles.
They are not that forgotten, people give them food and money all the time, most of them have EBT government food cards, and Obama phones. There’s a lot of shelters, food banks, and churches that always step up, trying to help them, in a way enables them even more. NOBODY on the streets of LA is dying of starvation. We even have obese homeless so food is not a problem. Is mental and spiritual. Many just gave up, don’t want to work, and once they get hooked on drugs is over. Even if is just marijuana that now is legal, some people can’t handle it. All the want to do is get High and do nothing. The trash is their “stuff,” it may look like trash but they get upset if you try to take it from them. The City protects their right to keep their “stuff/trash.” And is one of the reasons why these people don’t go to shelters because they’re not allow to bring trash or drugs. So they rather stay on the streets with their things. Believe me I know. I was doing homeless outreach and is so hard to get the mentally ill and drug users off the street. It is the political leadership that allowed this mess in the first place. So is their fault. So much for their progressive socialist Utopia. Is so sad. I used to love going to Venice. I haven’t been there in 10 years since it started getting really bad. I used to live in downtown LA and left too, because is just a hell hole now. I came to the suburbs outside LA and now is over LA County, is a California problem but mainly in the inner cities. All we can do is pray for them now and reach out when we can. Yep rain or shine, I'm happy to have a home to come to. Some people choose homelessness cause they would rather not have a boss or responsibilities. To each is own.
These comments are interesting, and not one of them is true. I'm 53 years old now and got out of homelessness about 20-30 years ago. Now here is the real truth from a person that's been there before. First off, I realize the question is just a rhetorical question. However rhetorical it may be though, the truth & facts are that none of those who believe the comments below are true, knows anything about what a good or bad day is like to a homeless person. Secondly, Don't ever think that giving a little change, or a buck or two to a homeless person is not appreciated by them. It most certainly is appreciated from the bottom of our hearts. What's left of it anyways. That hot meal from mc'donalds you gave us the other morning, or that ride you gave us the other day, or that pair of socks or coat you gave us to help keep us warm at night. NEVER EVER think or believe those things are not appreciated. THEY ARE! So then what's the problem? WHY are you STILL homeless? Did we not help you enough already? These are a few of the questions you may be asking yourselves. I understand. However, these questions are the WRONG ones to be asking. The problem isn't HOW MUCH you give, or how OFTEN you give. It's WHAT you give that is the problem. Don't miss understand me on this. God bless you all for your helping hand outs, Lord knows they help keep us going while we are in dire straights. But it just doesn't resolve the MAIN problem we are faced with, that impedes our efforts EVERY DAY. Your little bit of change here and there helps us with our struggle in EVERY DAY BATTLE to survive one more day, true enough. You'll get NO argument from me on that point. Now, as to the question of WHAT should be given? What would be needed to RESOLVE the homeless problem? WHAT'S needed? Just look at what MISSING, but REQUIRED. 1. A phone. 2. An address. 3. A bar of soap & some place to take a shower at least once a week. (One that's CLEAN and sterilized). Some place to wash a few pieces of clothing and some detergent. 4. Some place we can lay horizontal and sleep without some cop harassing us to move or worse yet, arresting us and taking what little we do have. Last but not least of all, GIVE US A JOB!!! So we can help our selves out. ANYTHING would help. It doesn't HAVE to be a fancy job in some factory, (though that would be great!) but, even just a simple job like maybe pull some weeds around your house or business, or if you got a lawn mower, to mow your grass for you, or wash your car or windows, or scrub the gang tags off your garage in the alley, or maybe do some painting of something for you. Hell, ANYTHING at all is better then having to stand on some dumb corner every day holding some stupid piece of cardboard sign begging for a job, while wearing filthy clothing and looking & (feeling) like I haven't showered for weeks with scraggly hair & looking like death warmed over right after hell ran over me. Ok. That last part there. Myself personally. That was where "I" drew the line. I just couldn't bring myself to do that one. That was just tooooo embarrassing for me to do. I went into restaurants and asked the managers if they had a job I could do to pay for a meal. But for those that do that, give them a job. It's also a great way to find out just who is real about that, and who the B.S.ers that do it for free hand outs and "WANT to be lazy". Their is ALWAYS at least one bad apple in EVERY basket out there. As to what's a good day? Well, understand this, a GOOD day goes something like this. First of all, know that OUR day starts about 10:00 P.M. the night before YOUR alarm clock sounds off. At or about 10:00 P.M., restaurants toss out any foods that didn't sell or get picked up that day. Like in my case, when I was homeless, I always hung around Little Caesar's pizza to wait for them to toss their pizza's in the dumpsters. They were always sealed and still hot from the ovens. I would usually find about 4-6 packages with 2 pizzas in each one. Or I'd go to a K.F.C.'s to get a 30 gal. bag of chicken they would toss out, that was still hot and in a clean and tied bag. Yes, I ate like a king. I'd find a 2 liter bottle of pop or a gallon of milk that had JUST reached it's expiration date "TODAY" and was still safe and drinkable. YES, I drank like a king! Then I'd eat. Then I would go what I called my can route. Come back with a 30 gal. bag or two of cans & bottles to cash in and get about 3-5 dollars. Buy a pack of cigarettes and get a cup of coffee from the donut shop. Then I'd get some sleep and HOPEFULLY not be disturbed and harassed by the cops. On some nights I'd have awash cloth and a pair of pliers to go behind a store and inside a make shift blind made of pallets, be able to take a cold shower with a short piece of garden hose for a shower head and a bar of soap. then in the cold air, dry myself off and get dressed. Then wash out my other out fit in cold water and a bar of soap and then go a field to hang them on a tree limb to dry. Then go looking for some one who might have some little job I could do for a few bucks so I could get a meal or what ever else I needed for the time being like tooth paste or something. then by then, It would be time to start all over again on the can route again that night. There, now that's a good day for a homeless person. Sad those kind of days are VERY far and few. Try doing that for just ONE week end with nothing but the clothes on you back. You WILL be heading back home to the comforts of your house, with a better understanding of what the homeless are faced with EVERYDAY with out any breaks. Then ask yourself your own questions.
If you were homeless, why TF would you care about trash? Would you literally don't know where your next meal is coming from or how you're going to survive that day why the f would you care about litter on the ground? You are quite a piece of work. No wonder why Society is the way it is. Because the majority are people like you
@@electricianron_New_Jersey and that's why Society is the way it is is because of people like you. And on another level there's people in your life that look down upon you the same way you look down upon those homeless people since you think that you're all that
Have you lived in California? I paid $1800 a month for a studio apartment in HB. If you're working class (working class people in California have to make over 60k a year to even survive) and you lose a job, or get injured and can't work, you're essentially screwed. The cost of living is just too high for someone not making over 80-90k a year to survive on their own. There's plenty of people that come to California for a job offer that's 20-30k higher than what they were making in the flyover states. If a California transplant has a financial setback and then has no family or friends in the area theyre screwed. The weather is nice enough to where you can sleep in your car and function without a residence but that's a slippery slope. I knew a few people that lost a job, took a job paying less and couldn't afford their rent. They ended up sleeping in their car and accepting that as normal. Without close friends/family and without the cash for a new apartment (about 4k with 1st month rent/security deposit) people end up couch surfing or sleeping in the car, one more setback and they're in a tent on the street.
I'd argue that homelessness isn't the appropriate word. Earth is home for all of us. These people are shelterless. Something governments can't seem to come together and solve. Shocking

They actually did a news report and showed a shelter there with clean beds, showers, A/C, heat, and free meals. Only requirement was no alchy and drugs. Has tents lined up around the block nearby and consistently operates at a fraction of max capacity.

Very sad over there, hope the society there can recover their humanitarianism, help these people and clean up the streets and their social values. Homelessness is more than a problem of appearance, some people can be helped with jobs or relocation, some others will have to be a deeper mental and cultural help.

Bad enough the homeless are forgotton but municipalities don't even try and collect their trash on a regular basis.
My question is why dont the city set them up at the city dump so they dont have to haul all that shit to Venice Beach.
Imagine what the billions of tax dollars that politicians just sent to other countries for gender studies and other pointless crap could have done for the homeless population in America.
it wouldnt matter. you see, the money sent abroad helps the usa too. a lo of the money you send abroad goes to countries that make your foods, make your electronics and tools. it keeps them producing, if they collapse then america is in huge treouble, the usa like most countries in the west rely on the 3rd world countries. if they collapse then the the usa would collapse. there aretwop areas, that the usa must not let collaapse orr it will collapse itself. 1. is the countries that provide what america needs, and the other is the uk. the uk is more important to the american rich, as its illegal to manage money i a tax haven in the usa. but its the main business for london. those sky scrapers in london are full of investment managers, managiung accounts in the caymon islands jersey etc for the american super rich, if the uk and london was to fall the americans billionaires would lose EVERYTHING so the usa will never let the uk fall out of greed and their own self interest, and thl;ike i say without giving money to third world countries those would collapse, and your food costs would sky rocket, clothing would sky rocket, technology woulsd sky rocket, and people wouldnt be able to live
thats the thing you and most americans do not unsderstand with your lamerica first syndrome. that the usa iss so interconnected that if one domino falls then they all do. you arnt giving money to foreign countries for fun you are doing it to keep the usa alive. its not your fault though, you have a substandard education system compared to other western countries like the uk. you should be taught this at school, then people wouldnt think like you and not understand WHY the usa sends money abroad. its not cos they like the countries, just americans are unskilled, and have never made decent products. i worked for a chemical plant, and my job was to take everything the americans made there and try to make it into something actually sellable. because the quality was that low it was unsellable. i had to mill it, just so that it could be sold and try to scrape some profit .
Homelessness is business in Democratic US cities. Think of all the “non profits” and how much money they bring in and how many people are employed to “end” homelessness. It’s a fucked up world we live in. The devil walks.
I agree with you buddy. But those people don’t want help. They’re rebels without a cause. They think they’re sticking it to society by not participating in the daily grind. Those politicians need to be run out of office.

Wouldn't everyday be a bad day if your homeless.
Yep rain or shine, I'm happy to have a home to come to. Some people choose homelessness cause they would rather not have a boss or responsibilities. To each is own.
@Kelly Israel youve never been homeless. it sucks. its not the life.
Some of them love it.

Yes they DO choose it! Just cause we wouldn’t doesn’t mean they don’t.

im sure they are ALL junkies right? smh get real
It’s actually due to coronavirus and things being shut down. Regardless of why, it shouldn’t be a thing. It’s easy to judge a place you haven’t found yourself in. Infantile thought process.
@@aidankhaos7687 nobody is judging, I said do a poll.
@@ikegrizzly3293 not all, but most. Search soft white underbelly, he pays homeless people on skid row for an interview and he takes a portrait. Regardless of what got them there, most have a story and most are addicted to something.
Wow been to Venice bunch of times in between 2000 to 2018 so much fun.... this video is so depressing
unfortunately 2021 will be just as bad. Some countries are even seeing a 3rd wave of covid so we might even have more shutdowns in 2021
@@leadnsteel1428 of course we will have more shutdowns, just because it's 2021 doesn't mean rona just ups and disappears.
The Pandemic really is why it got so bad. Shops are closed, not many people passing through and no enforcement by police.
Its the perfect combo for homelessness to take over.
Normally they aren't allowed to be there during the daytime hours.
my old stomping grounds gone to hell. sad.
Sadly
THIS IS WHERE PELOSI NEEDS TO USE SOME OF HER MILLIONS TO HELP HER OWN CALIFORNIA PEOPLE. SHAME ON THE CALIFORNIA LEADERSHIP CROOKS.
If you give them money, they will just buy drugs. You can't help people who don't want help.
Millions to help millions? What, each person gets a DOLLAR? LOL
So sad. I’m a native, my parents brought me to venice as a baby. Have not visited in years bc of the lawlessness there.
Second best joke on you tubes all month!
Shame on Trump too!
I saw your channel and love seeing a different part of the world. From Canada. Stay Safe
Love your videos German in Venice! I have been watching every one practically. The homeless ones are the best. Thank you for creating space for them to tell their story. God bless you & Happy Holidays from Seattle Mr. Mike!
I think those homeless have more stuff than I do in my 3 bedroom house.
i heard that they steal each other's stuff
you can't take you're eyes off your stuff
not even for a second
so I'd like to know what the hell do they do everytime they need to go somewhere
what do they do?
pack up all that shit, and take it with em?
that's fu@n ridiculous
The problem is that they leave it all when they move to another spot
Free water , how can they complain about that ?
A lot of it stolen from our cars truly all that bs material those druggies have meanwhile in SF millionaires live minimalist
Bitter sweet... so sad to see the homeless tents wet and soggy... I imagine there's lots of soaked feet... but good that the land is getting the rain... Hope it doesn't last too much longer so the homeless can dry out..
Awesome puddle pictures.. it's raining here today I may do the same later and get some puddle pictures. Thanks for getting out of bed as hard as it must have been yesterday. Singing in the Rain! Tschussing!
Same thing in Northern California where I live. It's not "oh, no it's raining." Instead, it's "Hallelujah, it's raining."
I just happened upon your video and I think I needed to be reminded that we cannot take anything for granted and I am so sad for the people who have to live like this. As I watched you pan over all the tents, I couldn't help but wonder why the city doesn't open up some of the abandon buildings and move the homeless into them. It looks like a war zone. It's unbelievable how bad that part of Cali looks. I have never had the desire to go to California. I live in Florida and I am counting my blessings everyday for having a roof over my head. Prayers to these people and prayers to you for showing us a side of Venice Beach that needs help.
Be safe.
...a war zone, indeed - the effects of predatory capitalism left unchecked!
Very sad over there, hope the society there can recover their humanitarianism, help these people and clean up the streets and their social values. Homelessness is more than a problem of appearance, some people can be helped with jobs or relocation, some others will have to be a deeper mental and cultural help.
