  • This Windlass or Capstan Shanty has a few different versions and seems to be about the steam/diesel engines on the wharf used to unload/load cargo.
Some different versions of the lyrics here:

I did find a picture of a ship called Rosalind from around the time this shanty would have been popular. I also found some photos in the Australian archives of various wharf engines.
There is some connection with this song, but not sure which came first:
    www.traditional...
The Shanty gets a brief mention in this book from 1885:

I listened to this version from Kimber's Men:
    • Kimber's Men - Bulgine...
Eliza Lee was an author around the time of this shanty, so maybe having Eliza 'on your knee' isn't as saucy as the rest of the song suggests:

I recently watched ‪@PaulDavids‬ brilliant video on recreating the guitar tone from Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah cover. I had a go at using three different reverb FX chains panned differently and with different delays. Not sure if it sounds much different to my usual approach, but it was fun to try something new.

Thanks Dan, I forgot to mention in the comments that I was trying a technique I saw on Paul Davids' recent video (ua-cam.com/video/q3lKCIpG2ic/v-deo.html) about how Jeff Buckley got his guitar tone on Hallelujah. Where you use three separate Reverb effects with different delays and pan them.

@@DanielKellyFolkMusic Thanks for the link! What great sound! Reverb is a powerful weapon to have for sound engineers!

Pretty good but too slow a tempo... they'd never get the loading/unloading done at that rate!

@@nctpti2073 I’m no expert, but I believe some women prefer it slow.

@@DanielKellyFolkMusic Well, it is true that for all we know, Eliza Lee prefers he takes his time rather than showing up at her place trying to put her over his knee.... But giving him the benefit of the doubt that he is, indeed, a better man than that...
