Rattlesnakes leaving their winter den

Western Rattlesnakes leave their hibernaculum in early spring as soon as the sun heats up their surroundings enough for these cold blooded creatures to function. Once warm they will leave the area and spend the season hunting. If treated with a little respect these shy creatures are not really a threat. Rattles are added at each molt, not necessarily yearly.
