I've had my 2011 ST for 9 years now, I'm often tempted by other newer bikes, but then I just go for a blast on the Sprint, and realise it's everything I need and more. I don't think I'll ever sell it. It's such a good all-rounder and seriously under rated/overlooked by many. Great video, I really enjoyed it thanks.

A good review of a solid all rounder, this is the bike that took me from Yamahas to Triumphs in 2005 and I've never looked back. I know you shouldn't have to 'tinker' with modern bikes but if to take the mirrors apart (very simple job) then add adhesive wheel weights to the body of mirror stem you totally alleviate the vibrations.

I have owned a 2007 version for 8 years now and still use it for commuting. The only issue I have had in that time is a reg/rec failure which also took out the stator. I replaced the lot myself for the princely sum of less than £200. Range for me is well over 200 miles on a tank and with Michelin road Vs fitted, it is a great bike to ride.

I bought a 2003 955i ST a few years ago. Put 40,000 miles on it since then. Lovely bike. I think you were amiss by not at least mentioning how tractable these triples are. From low down in the rev range they can be loafed around town without complaint and still accelerate quickly. At the top of the range they come on hard and rev freely. Missenden Flyer, your reviews are top notch.

Just found your channel, what a great review and a great choice of bike :)
I had a '05 model that I used mainly for travelling 200+ miles each way for work (I worked away and needed to carry a weeks' worth of kit in one go) but it could also go for a blast out quite happily. Fantastic machine, which I made the mistake of trading in for an '05 955i Daytona, a decision I deeply regretted.
The mirror wobble is a well-known issue, the solution is 3 wheel weights glued to the underside of the mirror housing, that sorts it out.
That Ixil exhaust on your test bike doesn't sound much different to the standard can, but believe me one of these with a Trident system or even a Triumph TOR can is aural poetry when you open it up.

V late review from me! This video popped up on my feed and had to check it out. The ST was the bike that got me back into bikes Xmas 21 after a break of 13 years. I bought a black one which needed a revamp of the electrics (R&R, stator and battery) but otherwise was immaculate. Added the trident exhaust which is what you have on your review bike and it was perfect. You can even retune the bike with free online software from ECUtune. I’ve traded up a bunch of times since but the ST still turns my head..

I had an 05 ST with ABS. Absolutely loved it, especially after I had the TOR exhaust fitted and mapped. At 178cm, found the early low handlebars a little cramped and my aged knees suffered after a couple of hours. Would have another in a heartbeat, especially with a metal tank rather than plastic.

I had 2 of these and you just reminded me how good they were. Comfy, sporty and fitted me at 6ft. Did everything from commuting to a trip to Croatia via the Alps. I'm really not sure why they have that T plane engine these days... the old 120 was superb. To BMW's advantage though, otherwise I could be persuaded off my GS onto a Tiger.

I must say that that review put me in a happy place. I've been lucky enough to ride both the ST & GT for an extended test ride. Both were comfortable, the GT's longer wheelbase makes it a good long distance motorway/A-road tourer. But the ST was so much fun on the twisties I thought it was more fun to ride as an everyday bike. I've turned down a couple in the past and regret it very much now.
By the way that exhaust looks like an aftermarket system from Trident which sounds epic!
Thanks to those Guys at the campsite, we are now fortunate to have all this content. Nice one Sir!

I'm in Aus. and I love my ST. I stepped straight up from a 250cc twin to my ST because it felt so natural. I loved the fact that what you do with your right wrist is what the bike does and the triple is very forgiving of rookie mistakes. Now that I have been riding quite a while I find it easy to keep up with my friends on straights and in the twisties regardless of what they are riding and I generally get off after a long ride feeling alot fresher than they do (we're all older guys). Just a great all around bike and it's staying in my garage regardless of what ever else I get.

I had the 2003 955i that I loved until a car - wall interface destroyed it. I was going to get the 1050 but got a 99 blackbird instead that I swear is the same as that old ST but a bit more in every way. The 1050 you rode had the trident aftermarket pipes and higher bars with factory heated grips. Whilst white wheels were an option, they weren't standard as such. Absolutely amazing machine that I may end up owning one day. Beware modern petrol that can rot the plastic.

Great review again. I did look for one for a while (I too thought it a great bike), but I still haven’t ridden one. The bike I currently have, and after 11 years ownership, I’ll keep, is a BMW R1200S, which I had no interest in until I saw one in a Triumph dealer. I’d called in to look for a Sprint ST, but as soon as I saw the R1200S and test rode it, I had to have it. The R1200S is a bit marmite, and rare as hens teeth, but if you get a chance to ride one, I’d like to see what you think. From what I’ve seen of your videos, and taste in motorbikes, my money is on you not being too keen (but that’s ok).
My mum bought me a Dinky toy motorcycle when I was about 3 or 4 years old. Loved bikes ever since - had to get one as soon as I was old enough - a BSA C15.

Nice review Andy 👍👍 Triumph got the 1050 Sprint ST soo right when Honda got the Vtec VFR so wrong ! I traded my ZZR1100D for a new 1050 Sprint ST ABS in June 2005, they came with grey wheels not white, I loved the bike, took it on track & abroad many many times including Romania for the next 6 years! A knee injury meant I swapped for a 1050 Tiger SE which I still have, as well as a 94R 1050 Speedie, just love those smooth 1050 motors 👍👍 The latest T plane crank engines are far too vibey & are horrible by comparision. I think Triumph are missing out on a big market sector by not fitting a smoother 120 degree 1200RS Speedie engine with chain drive into a 1200RS Sprint ST. Come on Triumph we don't all want to be Charley McGregorson 😜😜

One of my favourite bikes, I bought and reviewed One my channel a coupole of Years ago, amazing value, and pretty comfy considering the riding position. I would certainly consider another if it came up cheap enough (sound amazing with a Trident Carbon exhaust!)

Fantastic review again Andy, owned one exactly same a few years ago. And agree with your comments on the st. Fantastic bike. Funnily enough that wonky mirrors was only irritating thing about the bike. But was easy fix, anyway great vid, and keep the classic reviews coming. 👌

I had one and still think its one of the best bikes I've owned and I've had a few. The aftermarket pipes you have on it (ixil) sound not far off what the standard exhaust sounds like. Great all day comfort, fast and well behaved in the bends. Recommend one if you want a fast cross county road machine.

I had a new Sprint ST 955i in 2001 and kept it for 16 years. It took me comfortably all over Western Europe in that time. Plenty of power and handled like a dream. Just wish the MT07 had more comfort but it is a lot lighter which was the main requirement in 2017. My best mate had the 1050 and we had great times on the roads. Like the review and totally agree with your findings, Ride safe.

Beautiful bike!! And I’ve seen a few with hard side cases and I think it still looks great, some bikes look horrible with cases. Nice to know you can still look great while touring! Keep it up.

It is a great bike I owned a 2005 one myself at that time they did two different height bars bars that you could choose when you ordered it
The exhaust on the one you were on is an aftermarket rear pipes the original one was a single box under the seat with three pipes sticking out with a bolt on trim to make it look nice

What a good review of a bike I’ve always wanted to try myself, I’ve just bought a speed triple 1050 RS but would love one of these as a 2nd bike, The looks of the ST are so much better than the GT too especially the exhausts under the seat 👌

I’ve had a 2009 Sprint ST (ABS) for 9 years now. I passed my test in 2012 too after i split with my partner (same problem with bike objections) and my first big bike was a Honda VFR 800…that’s a great bike too. The sprint is everything that bike was and more. I’ve done a few longer trips from Dorset to Liverpool and back and the Sprint is an amazing machine. Chain tensioning is a doddle with the single sided swing arm, the bike is so stable that it feels like it’s running on rails, but it’s flickable, not like a shorter raked naked, but good enough for some necessary thrills 😅. It’s no GSXR but 0-100 in 5 seconds is fast enough for me😁

Sweet soundtrack. So the big question Mr F is will we see this of a different ST in your garage? I think it would be a circle of life moment and perfect homage to the bike that changed your whole life. Poetic and romantic. 🏍🏍🏍

That sound has just reignited the regret I have for selling my old speed triple 1050, one hell of an engine. The clock was touching 60k when I chopped it in and still ran faultlessly like it did on day 1.
Think I might have to give one of these sprints a go 👍

Nice review Mr Flyer.. got one myself 09 plate ABS model with removable panniers, have upgraded the lights with LED”s which are 100% better, can now see where I’m going to crash, lol… the bike is a great ride and when the overrun pops there’s nowhere better to be… fast, comfy and smooth… it may be an ageing beauty but it can still embarrass a lot of younger machinery… am looking to replace but there’s nothing much out there than can compare to what I’ve already got… think Triumph are missing a trick by not releasing an updated Sprint, especially with the renewed interest in the sport touring market recently.

I love my Tiger 1050 sport, that triple is a beaut and the simplicity of technology levels appeals too the older rider like myself, back on the scene at 60 after an 18 year lay off. I will be adding one of these to my stable next year for sure just too ring the riding changes now and then.

I bought one of these in 2005, same blue color. The white wheels are not standard, the normal wheels were black. And that exhaust is also not from factory: the original also had three exhaust pipes, but not as long. And the heated grips are also aftermarket for sure. Mine had ABS, which was optional and I don't see the sticker in the front mudguard on this unit, so it's probably not there.

Nice, classic review! I had older brother, Sprint ST 955i from 2004. That 1050 has same awesome triple sound! I liked that older Sprint more than I expected. Very good bike, and it was dirt cheap! Those Triumph Sprints are underrated bikes IMO. This 1050 is beautiful bike. The older 955i model was not so, although I kinda liked looks of that too.
