I remember watching this the first time, i was obsessed over Davy Jones at the time, i remembered this while re-watching pirates of the Caribbean a day ago
That looks amazing! I think, maybe a little bit of air brushing with darker paint on the face and hand would make it look even better! Another idea would be to put makeup around your eyes so you can't tell wear the mask starts :) Awesome job man!
He could use a cheap tooth brush to speckle the yellow with a vainy blue colour paint with dark green speckles to make the yellow bits to look more like octopus skin
Oh my gosh the Cheerios!!! I died laughing. I never would have thought to use Cheerios for the suckers. That is simply genius good sir. Keep up the awesome work.
@TechBear1 At the very least, I needed some blue. There's a lot of dark blue on his tentacles, but I didn't have the right colors, for cream makeup that I would have used.
I watched this a long time ago, I wonder why this was recommended to me? In fact if I look through my thousands of favorites videos I’d find this video, somewhere out there, alone.
have you considered making masks and selling them? I have yet to see a Davy Jones mask to rival yours, at least not one for sale and I know I wouldn't be the only one who would purchase your work
That's excellent, I agree with you about the paint job on the mask, but all in all an amazing job for a scratch build :) looking forward to seeing more from you.
dude davy jones costume was made with computer the fact that you can make this for real is incredable you should totally work as a special effects artist or if you already do keep it up
@alexthemoviegeek don't forget, there needs to be a subtle muscle suit under the spider-man suit. only to enhance certain features, like the pecks, biceps, shoulders, maybe quadriceps.. yeah, i didn't really think about how much of a challenge that would be. What's next on your list of costumes to make?
dude, that is totally awsome! and in three weeks time? even better! I dont think I'd have that much time on my hands(unless it was summer break) or the patience to do half of that.
@Timmeken07 I ordered it off amazon, couldn't find any in stores. The latex came already in one mixture, no mixing of parts required. I don't quite remember the brand though, some sort of mask making specific latex though.
@Kachukeland I'd say if it was easy enough to sculpt the webbing on top somehow, starting with a base unitard or lycra suit would be great for Spider-man. I'd rather do a Venom anyway. Heh. Next project won't be a costume, but it could turn out to be pretty cool. I also might do a Dark Knight batsuit.
Wow your work turned out amazing your very skilled thats a cool art project I wish I could do it but even with that tutorial I still don't have skills like you, thanks for sharing really appreciate it
man, your predator and davy jones costumes are incredible. You have great attention to detail, and you're a natural sculptor. You have to have some talent to sculpt the clay faces. Hey, have you considered making a spider-man costume? i've seen some pretty good ones, and I bet you'd make a great one.
@TechBear1 And it's weird because it seems there are some translucency issues with him, like his skin looks like different colors under different light. To make the proper coloring would take paints and skills I really don't have. There's a guy on deviantART who did a great job on his.
@Kachukeland Something like Spider-Man would require much smoother surface, probably through the use of casting and molding. All that for a full body would be pretty crazy. Just a mask maybe (and maybe a wetsuit for the body), but that would be a fun challenge.
hey man, good cosplay. but I really want to know which material do you used to make the mask. at the beginning and at the end! thanks I will hope you answer my questions
First, you do a great job man! I do sfx makeup for independent films. I have worked with latex and foam latex for awhile, but recently thought about trying it the way you do it. Simply because not enough room where I am at and I can't get too mess here. Not enough space. So for now this is the method I think would be great.
@alexthemoviegeek I'm just wondering how many layers of latex did you end up using in all for the main head part and for the tentacles?? I'm making on and I was thinking 20 layers for the main head??
I do have 2 questions for ya. Question 1: Once you made your sculpture could you slice them in pieces and then latex the individual pieces? This is incase you wanted to form fit these pieces to the actors face using something like spirit gum and then color it in then or color them ahead of time using acrylic paints?? Question 2: once you make your sculpture, could you use the caster bandages to make your duplicate. Then paint your mask on the inside with latex or would that b a waste of time?
I think if you mix the yellow with grey and/or a peachy skin color, it would get the squid-like color better. i suggest experimenting with small ammounts, but i guess you know that. You're a genius! i'v been wanting to do some stuff and now I know how to do most of the stuff i want to do. One queston, How would you make a costume (of a headless person, such as the Headless Spectre from Scooby-Doo) and still be able to see, head inside the costume and everything?
First I like to say that the mask looks awsome!!! And I have a question: Did you clean you brush between applying the layers of latex and if so, how did you do it, or did you use a new one with every layer? Thanks in advance.
You are the biggest geek/talented legend. seriously that's dedication, brains and talent. I'm so jealous. Great job. Did you end up toning down the yellow?
hy Alex, can you post in the description a list of all materials you used for the costume? I've some difficulties in understanding by the video. Thanks a lot :)
it looks really good. the one problem you have is the yellow paint job. you need to go back and make it less bright and probably do some washes to grime it up. love you work tho
xmons turx also i don't know if you're staying in a comfort zone but try to step out of it. rub some dirt on it and get it authentically dirty. he doesn't go to shore but once a year. your works a little too clean
+xmonsturx agreed, I'd airbrush it around the eyes and put on some eyeshadow or such to give it more depth. it could probably use a wash as well and some texture. i think the claw shouldn't be so tubular too, but that may just be me
@Kachukeland Yeah, I'd love to do pepakura. But it's too "mainstream" for me. I want to do things a little more uniquely. Or at least costumes that people don't make very often.

That looks amazing! I think, maybe a little bit of air brushing with darker paint on the face and hand would make it look even better! Another idea would be to put makeup around your eyes so you can't tell wear the mask starts :) Awesome job man!

I love it
I remember watching this years ago and now I'm back to see how awesome it is
That's pretty cool!! Davey jones was always my favorite character and you did very well with low end budget:))
Oh my gosh the Cheerios!!! I died laughing. I never would have thought to use Cheerios for the suckers. That is simply genius good sir. Keep up the awesome work.
@TechBear1 At the very least, I needed some blue. There's a lot of dark blue on his tentacles, but I didn't have the right colors, for cream makeup that I would have used.
it's been a decade and this still holds up
Watched this when I was 5 or 6 I still miss those videos and the videos of that era of UA-cam the golden era of youtube
Me lembro que quando era mais novo assistia muito isso, mesmo sem entender oq ele dizia era fascinante eram bons tempos sem muita preocupação
you could paint the mask with spray some tone of grey dark yellow btw very good costume
@Comicwriter232 Vaseline just helps the latex not stick to the sculpt, helps it slide off easier. I did probably 10 layers of latex.
I LOVE costumes like that!!😱😱😱
I loved it! You are really creative, You motivate me to try the Davy Jones mask!
I watched this a long time ago, I wonder why this was recommended to me? In fact if I look through my thousands of favorites videos I’d find this video, somewhere out there, alone.
Awrsome! Youre so talented!
wow, you are really creative, this costume is amazing!!! :)
have you considered making masks and selling them? I have yet to see a Davy Jones mask to rival yours, at least not one for sale and I know I wouldn't be the only one who would purchase your work
A
Gosh! That head base is so cool lookin'! The whole costume is wonderful.
People would pay a lot of money for a costume like this. It's better quality than the crap costume stores try to sell.
This is awesome! My son and I were quite impressed with your creativity and staying on a budget with this is awesome!
That's excellent, I agree with you about the paint job on the mask, but all in all an amazing job for a scratch build :) looking forward to seeing more from you.
dude davy jones costume was made with computer the fact that you can make this for real is incredable you should totally work as a special effects artist or if you already do keep it up
I remember watching this years ago!
Ye said you made it with under a hundred dollars, what if I said I'm willing to buy it for 100$, hmm? I'd buy 1 if yer sellin'!
@alexthemoviegeek don't forget, there needs to be a subtle muscle suit under the spider-man suit. only to enhance certain features, like the pecks, biceps, shoulders, maybe quadriceps.. yeah, i didn't really think about how much of a challenge that would be.

YOU ARE THE MOST TALENTED ARTIST I HAVE EVER SEEN
dude, that is totally awsome! and in three weeks time? even better!
I dont think I'd have that much time on my hands(unless it was summer break) or the patience to do half of that.
Aside from the color being off it looks great!
Dude that’s the coolest Costume I’ve ever seen
YOU ARE SO TALENTED!! &Creative, loved the cheereos idea! Fantastic
@Timmeken07 I ordered it off amazon, couldn't find any in stores. The latex came already in one mixture, no mixing of parts required. I don't quite remember the brand though, some sort of mask making specific latex though.
Fascinating!!!!delightful!!!

@boastudios Yeah, that definitely makes itself evident upon looking at me in the final product, that my body build in general isn't quite the same.
@Kachukeland Something like Spider-Man would require much smoother surface, probably through the use of casting and molding. All that for a full body would be pretty crazy. Just a mask maybe (and maybe a wetsuit for the body), but that would be a fun challenge.
How to make a Blade Stabbington (monster from the Grojband episode Creepaway Camp) costume.
Great job!!!!! I hope to see more work like this.

Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus112,9 The Kraken :)
great work Davy Jones 😍😍😍😍
Nostalgia Childhood
Why did i get this video from 11 years ago in my recomended list?
@Comicwriter232 Rubbing some baby powder on the mask helps it not stick to itself. I suppose I should add that detail in an annotation.
love the way you work on bed between mouse, remote control and controller.
I'm genuinely impressed with your attention to detail.
And so cost effectively also.
Very cool indeed :)
hey man, good cosplay. but I really want to know which material do you used to make the mask. at the beginning and at the end! thanks I will hope you answer my questions
Latex
Now someone needs to put animatronic appendages in the tentacle beard and program it to play Davy Jones on an organ
i watched this when i was smaller, still think it’s really cool
That was amazing. Great job.
Same I used to watch it hourly
That is a cool video. Thanks for sharing

Incredible job Alex! That's freaking amazing!
You are the biggest geek/talented legend. seriously that's dedication, brains and talent. I'm so jealous. Great job. Did you end up toning down the yellow?

Simply awesome

good sir, you are a costume-making genius!
hy Alex, can you post in the description a list of all materials you used for the costume? I've some difficulties in understanding by the video. Thanks a lot :)
cheerios were actually a really good idea tbh
I bought it on eBay, a 5 pound roll of brand Activa Rigid Wrap. I also get plaster strips in 20 pound boxes on Amazon.
it looks really good. the one problem you have is the yellow paint job. you need to go back and make it less bright and probably do some washes to grime it up. love you work tho

wow that is so cool and i love Pirates of the Caribbean
thats really cool! you could apply in a big company ... somethink like hollywood
Just great dude, I want one for next halloween
@Kachukeland Yeah, I'd love to do pepakura. But it's too "mainstream" for me. I want to do things a little more uniquely. Or at least costumes that people don't make very often.
Man your voice I so awesome!!!!!! I'm into those to things too like batman and comics!!
What fortuitous circumstances be this. I was looking for a way to make the mask. Great video.
